Halloween lol. Love Halloween. I only got sleeves five or six months ago but this is actually the second Halloween I have avoided all candy. Last October I was very much in yhe “must loose weight to have surgery” phase. Has anyone else discovered that sweet things taste really gross after you haven’t had sugar for so long? I had tried a few things since surgery that I used to love and they are just gross. Orange soda? I had a sip of my sons soda to get a pill down (it was an emergency and I was caught unawares) and it tasted like rotten oranges. candies? Yeah way too sweet I had a nibble of something from my kid and I spit it out. Things that have sugar are just way too sweet now and I can’t stand the taste (it doesn’t make me sick at all…. It’s just gross tasting lol) definitely a post surgery positive.

Hi, brand new from Ireland and worried how much time is spent prepping meals after the op
Orinskye replied to Maroux's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I admit: I over prepared and then didn’t really use a lot of what I prepped. lol im five months or so out from surgery now and I tend to go really simple with my “meals”. No prep needed. morning: coffee and egg lunch: P3 pack and greek yogurt (bought from the store it’s like a $2 meal haha) dinner: chicken they told me to push protein first. By the time I’m done with protein I have no desire for any sides. My protein count is a tad different than most people’s…. My kidneys have issues filtering high protein diets so they told me 60 grams MAX post surgery and to keep it between 50-60 a day long term. If I eat two skinless chicken wings? I’m done and full. I really don’t eat very much at all. I also have no desire to eat like I did. I measure nothing right now because my portions are still so tiny. That may change if I end up able to eat more but for now I just stick to the same thing every day. Food is really boring for me these days lol -
How many days in the hospital?
Orinskye replied to mrsjo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went into the hospital in the AM and was on my way home by 4pm. I took zero pain meds other than Tylenol that first day. The dr actually wrote me off work for a month. Originally it was two weeks but I was having issues with my blood pressure dropping too low. They took me off my meds and I was able to do another two weeks without fainting so they let me go back to work. -
I have kind of been purging as I go. If I put something on and it’s extra baggy? Doesn’t fit right? Wouldnt wear it out in public? It goes in the donate pile. I used to be a 3X. I’m now an XL or Large depending on what it is. I’ve lost 100 pounds from my highest weight. I JUST went out today and got resized for bras. OMG. I can’t believe how great it feels to now be in the correct size. I was a 44/46H before and I am now a 36DDD. I put my old bra back on so I could pay for my new ones and I immediately missed the support of the new ones lol.

What is your height, pre surgery weight and your 6 month post op weight?
Orinskye replied to Chantrella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Height: 6feet 2” (female) weight pre surgery: 330 at highest Weight at surgery: 297 weight this morning: 228.8 pounds. Milestone JUST hit: I am no longer obese. I am now just considered overweight! goal weight is 195 pounds -
I have a tough time finding before photos. I never wanted my photos taken ever… tnis was one of me not even at my heaviest…. I had actually lost a good amount of weight in the striped shirt photo… and then another of me now. before: size 26/28 now: size 16 and going down before size 44 G bras now: size 38DD most of the change is in how I feel.. I was walking with a cane and was wheelchair bound. Now I can walk without problems

I had surgery at 297 or something (I can’t remember) and I am now 232. my goal weight was 195. I JUST started losing again after a massive stall that lasted WEEKS. I get like I was stuck at 245 forever! food wise: I’m getting in 50- 60 grams of protein (my protein levels are lower than the average patient because of kidney issues) Caloric intake is 700-800 a day. I really can’t get in much sometimes but I make sure to hit my protein and water goals. sample meals for a day: breakfast: scrambled egg (I’ll eat maybe half snack: cheese stick lunch: P3 and a yogurt (sometimes I can’t finish the yogurt and only eat half) Dinner: 2 chicken wings and a bite or two of a side, but not much and I often pass on the side completely and just eat the chicken. I just had my call from the dr and they told me I was doing great…. So I guess they aren’t concerned with my stall 🤷🏼♀️ i honestly can’t even give them an accurate weight because the 232 was when I had jeans, shoes, etc… all my clothes. So I might be 220 something lol

I’ve tried it a few times (I’m five months out) but it honestly didn’t sit well. The bubbles were REALLY uncomfortable. Enough for me to avoid completely. I drink nothing carbonated anymore. the few times I did try it I ended up having one sip and giving it to my kids lol. I pretty much just drink water or coffee. It also took me exactly one time of eating and drinking in the same meal time to never do that again either. The consequences were not pleasant. Even the 30 minutes after is iffy…. I usually have to wait longer. the negative reinforcement consequences make me behave lol

I was JUST under the 40 bmi mark and they took me. I had kidney disease, arthritis (which interfered with mobility), and I think that was it? No real Comorbidities. they used that initial weigh in to qualify me. As I lost weight I went under that bmi marker but it was fine and I still got the surgery. They only used the initial weight for qualification. it was a long process though because you have to do the options classes, get all the requirements done (ekg, psych screening, support groups), and I had to get my nephrologist to sign off on it so that was an extra step for me. then covid pushed my surgery back…..lol. (I went through so cal Kaiser. I used the south bay facility) I started the process with my doctor referral in March of 2020. I started the options classes in October 2020. I finally got surgery March of 2021. (highest weight 330, surgery weight was 297, and my current weight 5 months from surgery is 235). Goal weight they wanted to see me between 175-190.

I was on losartan prior to surgery (it lowered my blood pressure but I took it for a different reason… to increase blood flor to some vital organs)….. after surgery I got dizzy upon standing and actually blacked out once. I was immediately taken off the med and that problem went away. however…… I am now 4 months post op and NOT on blood pressure meds and they are concerned that it could dip too low (it’s hovering just over 100…) they said if my blood pressure goes below 100 it’s too low and they will need to put me on a new med to fix it😬

What if I get my period before surgery?
Orinskye replied to Y_chaeelin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my period during surgery. They gave me the mesh underwear for surgery and also a pad. when I came out of it I put my own stuff back on. -
Worried @ Teaching while Recovering
Orinskye replied to LouLouM's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can you do the surgery at the beginning of thanksgiving break/end of the week prior to thanksgiving …. Then take a few weeks off after that break? That will give you three weeks post surgery but only taking two weeks of time off. the other option would be to the the same thing but with winter break in December, do it at the beginning of winter break and then you can take two weeks recovery afterwards and you could then have 3-4 weeks off depending on how your schedule plays out. im currently trying to get a teaching job (my weight has been detrimental to me landing a job). I spent last year subbing and I had to take a month off because I had a problem with low blood pressure. I went back after 4 weeks and I was good. The liquid diet wasn’t that big of a deal because no one was allowed to socialize during lunch (because of covid). I was worried about fatigue too, but even one month out my weight had dropped to the point where I had more energy (and less joint pain) I had prior to surgery… good luck! -
That’s still pretty good. My weight loss is interesting. I’m not losing steadily. I’ve hit several stalls already. I got my first one about three weeks out from surgery …. Which was expected. I stayed the same weight for weeks, then all of a sudden I dropped a lot. I’m now in another stall. I’ve been stuck at 246 for two weeks now. I tend to drop a lot in short periods and then stall for long periods…. It’s also hard to meet my protein intake goal. I hate the shakes (I gag just thinking about them) but I still have to drink them otherwise I won’t meet the protein goal. I’m down to one though. I can get 30 grams of protein in through food and then one shake a day. I split that shake up so I don’t have to drink it all at once. clothes are another thing I judge my loss by. I had to buy an emergency pair of swim bottoms so I could actually continue going to the beach and pool without being arrested for indecent exposure lol. In sizing: I was a 24 or a 3XL pre surgery and I am now about a size 16 or extra large. I’m so happy I made this choice

It really varies on the area you are talking about because some places are more inundated with backlog than others. me: consult mid January and surgery mid March. I’ve heard from other people that got it done faster because they were not in a high case area…. But then you have others like samym who take a lot longer. Speaking of which; how you doing samym? You are almost a month out are you feeling good? My weight is now 246. When I had surgery it was 297. So about 40 pounds in three months. my unsupportive husband weighed himself and was in shock. He weighs almost 400 pounds. He is seeing my success and is definitely moving towards insecure and jealous. I told him to go walk into his dr at Kaiser and request it…. But it requires lifestyle changes…. Which he is not willing to make. 🤷🏼♀️

I’m only 3 months out from surgery…. but orange soda…. Used to love it and now it taste like rotten oranges. I just had one sip from my son’s …So gross. Pancake puppies from Denny’s? I tried a tiny bite of that and it tasted like I was guzzling the oil vat from the county fair lol. Again…. So gross. I tried a jelly bean and spit it out immediately. It tasted horrible. I had a bite of cupcake from my sons birthday yesterday. Also gross. It was chocolate flavored and I have never been a fan of chocolate. I ditched sodas and sugar for the most part last october prior to surgery. I’ve found that my tastes have DEFINITELY changed as a result. I can’t have anything greasy or anything with too much sugar. It just tastes bad. I shouldn’t be eating that stuff anyways so it’s a win I guess 🤷🏼♀️

Anybody not working out??
Orinskye replied to adventuremomof4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m only two and A half months out. I had a Few complications with blood pressure issues which pushed my timeline back. My “exercise” really just consists of my day to day activities at this point… I go up and down the stairs multiple times a day, we (my kids and I) walk to the pool, we swim, we walk back, we go to the beach, I walk on the sand and play with my kids (this totally counts when you have a 4 year old! Lol). I have even volunteered to go run errands so I can get out and walk…. I have had severe mobility issues and I am just now able to get up and move. Before it was excruciating just sitting in a chair! I approached my ortho dr and asked if I could do physical therapy since I am now able to move more and I would like to figure out how to move correctly, build strength, and built flexibility in those joints I haven’t used in years. I get to call in on Monday and figure out when they can schedule me. I’m really looking forward to physical therapy! -
Any tall people who had surgery?
Orinskye replied to JessieShips83's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m a 6 2” woman. my highest was 330. my surgery weight was 297 my current weight is 255 (I had surgery on march24th so I am only a few months out). ive been stalled for a bit now…… just sticking to my plan and keeping with my protein goals. so from surgery to two months out thats 42 pounds (mostly in the first month). -
Finished options mid/end of December. Had my surgeon consult mid January. (One month between options end and consult) ….Then I couldn’t get approved for surgery because covid shut everything down…. I ended up having surgery March 24th… so a little over 2 months almost 3 from consult to surgery. But…. If covid hadn’t shut anything down it would have been quick. Options, consult, and surgery within a month after options finished. Covid really kind of messed up the timeline. I live in ca and I was ready to go during the second wave .

I am really struggling with food lately. I make something…. Then one bite in I am am just “Bleh” and I don’t feel like eating anymore. I made a scrambled egg this morning with 1/4 of a banana….. I had two bites of eggs and two bites of banana and I was done…..I gave the rest to my four year old. That’s pretty typical of every meal these days except for when I get a chick fil a market salad….. but then that tides me over for at least four/five meals 😂

So I got my second Pfizer shot Saturday. The first shot I had no issues other than a sore arm and I thought I had a few bites (flea? Spider) on my arm that itched….. no big deal. Can you see where this is going? The second shot: I got it Saturday morning and then I had to rush out to go to an event. I wore long sleeves and long pants…. I didn’t realize until I got home and got in the shower that I had an allergic reaction. Hives. They are now pretty much everywhere except my face/hands/and feet. They were in my throat for the first two days but those have receded. benedryl does nothing. I have a call in with my dr and they are going to figure something out hopefully. I want the itch to stop!!!

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Orinskye replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Now that you mention it……, I often forget these days and it’s not really a big deal because it doesn’t smell like really bad BO. One of the reasons why I forget is because usually I am reminded by the BO smell while I get dressed and I don’t have that anymore. -
I pretty much stayed home after my covid test…… but it wasn’t mandatory. Lol- I was just lazy and didn’t want to go anywhere. But I still had contact with my kids who were in school so yeah…. No quarantine. do what you are comfortable with. If you had the option to work at home I would totally take advantage of that. 🤷🏼♀️ you are in good company for liquid diets… I am back on a liquid diet after my second covid shot. I had an allergic reaction and broke out in hives. They were even in my throat 😭 so I’m on liquids until they go away (my first shot I noticed some spots but I thought they were flea bites! Second shot? WAY WORSE allergic reaction… praying that they aren’t going to require a booster !)

Pizza at 7 or 8 weeks?
Orinskye replied to lostmykeysinspace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about two months out and I just scrape the topping off and eat that. -
No I didn’t have to quarantine but I did have to take a covid test. Do you have to quarantine? I worked up until the Friday before my surgery (surgery was on Wednesday). I didn’t want to deal with the liquid pre op diet and working at the same time. how long is your liquid diet before hand?

I had my surgery March 24th. I’m doing well…. I am down 30 pounds from my surgery weight and 70 pounds from my highest weight. in definitely into smaller sizes. My go to was 3XL and now I’m wearing XL (kinda strange considering I never thought I would ever go below an xl…..but I’ve got about 80 more pounds to lose so I think I will definitely get smaller than an xl now).
