Hit goal today! (Loose skin pics)
The Greater Fool replied to ChubRub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! Good luck on your PS. Tek -
You are still pretty recently post-op. You may feel better, but your body is still working to heal on less resources. Be patient with yourself. Do what you can, don't do what you can't. It will get better. Good luck, Tek

I'm betting that while the portion size may be smaller, I don't recall them being as small as a 2 month post-op would eat. More to point, though, is the content. The protein to other ratio that I recall would not be appropriate for my plan. Unless you intend to eat NutriSystem forever, best to learn to do it yourself, now. Good luck, Tek

OK, carp. It might be time to start looking for zebras (less obvious alternatives). Any skin issues? Pain? Allergies? Fever? Have you done a detailed food log? Perhaps you can relate issues to foods. I also have such symptoms when I have a psoriatic arthritis flair. It's autoimmune. There are a variety of them that can cause such symptoms. Could it be related to stress? Stress does this to me sometimes. Keep trying. Your wits are longer than you think Tek

Welcome to the forums, Is it possible you have some sort of bug? Your symptoms sound like my version of the flu. Dry heaves are my version of throwing up. The other symptoms fit. Could also be symptoms of some autoimmune things, but I'd go with bug initially. It may just run it's course over 7-10 days. I'm not a doctor, just a voice on the interwebs, so follow your Doc's advice. If you not happy, keep pushing, be your own advocate. Good luck, Tek

Hello and welcome. Is this an issue since surgery, or before also? Can you share details of your situation? I have had low testosterone my whole life, treat for a while about 25 years ago then faded off it. I don't remember much about it. Tek

Gastric Sleeve Versus The Gastric Bypass Surgery
The Greater Fool replied to Numbheart's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeve is restrictive, but everything is intact. So, you can eat pretty much all foods, meds work as they do normally. Bypass bypasses the pyloric valve and a small amount of intestines, creating malabsorption. Thus, anything you eat goes directly into your intestines. Sugar or Fat may cause 'dumping' syndrome which is unpleasant. Time release meds MAY need adjusting. I wanted dumping because I wanted to be forced into changing my habits. It worked. I've managed to stay more or less on plan to this day. Sugar & fat make appearances, but in vastly reduced quantity. Some folks think restriction is enough and more power to them. I chose RNY because I found myself thinking I could return to old eating habits if I chose with other surgeries. I didn't trust that I could not stay on plan without some 'adjustments' the RNY would provide. Good luck. Tek -

No weight loss
The Greater Fool replied to salasmarlene02@gmail.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You seem to be doing great. The scale is the devil. It will lie to you. The fear that "this won't/isn't working" is a big one that most of us have faced. It will work for you if you work for it. It's a team effort, your part is to follow your plan. Keep up the good work, kill the scale. Good luck, Tek -
Congratulations. You are actually a fine example of how to make things work. You had issues that it took several tries to come up with a working solution. You kept trying rather than just complaining about them. More issues will present and you will work through them just as you did your meds. Again, great job. Tek

Heart palpitations, dehydrated or naughty eating habit?
The Greater Fool replied to Kristi schumann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It just occurred to me. Palpitations is a symptom of dumping. You're not doing sugar or fat before the palpitations start (30-60 minutes)? You don't mention your surgery type. Dumping is more likely with RNY, but it can happen with the Sleeve. Just a thought. Tek -
Heart palpitations, dehydrated or naughty eating habit?
The Greater Fool replied to Kristi schumann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, you certainly are living on the edge. I've had undiagnosed heart issues my whole life, but Docs never saw it, and I didn't tell them because I thought it was normal. Finally, an episode went longer than usual and I woke up on my bosses floor. Guess what? It wasn't normal. Getting back on plan probably won't hurt but it is unlikely to be the problem. Dehydration may exacerbate the problem, so stay hydrated. It's what got me finally. But that is unlikely to be the root cause. Stick it out with your Docs. They'll figure it out. They are the experts, we are just voices on the internet. Good Luck, Tek -
It should not affect your surgery unless: 1) It's the night before surgery; or 2) you tell your surgeon. But, don't make a habit of 'oops'ing. I'm sure at some point you promised yourself you would do it right, this time. Time to follow through on this promise. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, then kick yourself in the ass and get on plan. Good luck, Tek

CPAP machine for my apnea filling stomach with air?
The Greater Fool replied to ClintoftheRocks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello and welcome to the forums. I had a CPAP, which was cranked up pretty high, for a while and I don't believe it would create enough pressure to harm your pouch. But, I'm not a doctor, what do I know? Out of an abundance of caution I would check with your surgeon and your CPAP Doc, perhaps post-op you may need an adjustment. Good Luck, Tek -
As BigSue says, there are as many plans as there are surgeons. Probably more. If it's any comfort, my pre-op diet was food, until the day before surgery. Do what your Doc says. Tek

Anyone have their surgery in Mexico?

So Cal Kaiser
The Greater Fool replied to 36sar's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello and welcome to the forums. It's been a while since I was involved in So Cal insurance, but isn't Kaiser all inclusive, you pay them insurance fees and they provide medical services in house? If that's still the case, well, it's their house and they make the rules. Though, it does seem an odd rule. Perhaps if you talk to them, the docs, the customer service, whoever, you can get someone to make a compelling argument why, in this case, it makes sense to do it in one shot. Don't take the first or even fifth no for an answer. Keep pushing. If you can't make it happen, you did your best. 3 months for a second surgery is certainly not the end of the world. Good luck, Tek -
Having trouble getting surgery date!
The Greater Fool replied to mzayent's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the forums. Most test for surgery are only good for 6 months or so it was back when I did it. So resolve that you are basically going to have to start over. As such, if your current Doc is anxious about your high BMI then now would be the time to look for a Doc that is not scared, that can do the surgery with your other issues. You're the boss, make sure you hire a surgeon that can do the job for you. Shop around. This will be a lot of frustrating stuff to get to surgery. You need to just do it. Insurance doesn't want you to have surgery as it costs them money, so they will put things in your way hoping you quit. Surgeons are risk averse. They don't want to do surgery if there's a chance it could kill you. It makes sense, if you think about it. Again, find the Doc willing to do it. This is not a sprint it's a marathon. Just keep plugging away. Knock down anything in your path and keep moving forward. You don't cross the finish line by quitting. Good luck, Tek -

How do you deal with people's opinions and comments?
The Greater Fool replied to breavsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first year I *did* look sick, nothing like I looked before. A manager in another city did the same operation 8 months ahead of me without my knowing and he looked sick. While we may be feeling better, our bodies are going through tremendous stresses and may make us look sick compared to our well fed former selves. Seeing us 6-12 months ago and now can be quite a shock. I took it as concern, not judgement. I would just say I was feeling good and move on. Others would say I was looking good, to which I would just say I was feeling good and move on. Not every honest perception that is not favorable is 'judgement.' Of course, y'all know who you hang with and how their minds work. Good luck, Tek -
I'm in the no scale, weigh at follow-ups school, not that I had any choice in the matter. Which way will you be happier and/or less crazy? Will the scale not changing for week(s) at a time cause you to reconsider what you are doing? Will you want to do something to "break the stall"? Whatever helps you stay on plan is what you should do. Doesn't matter what we think, only what you think. Good luck, Tek

Welcome to the forums. What surgery did you have or are considering? It does change the answers. Sleeve folks can get away with some real sugar, while RNY would not do well. I loved SF Popsicles, While I could put sweets away pre-op, not much desire post-op, but that could be explained by dumping episodes I don't recall. When you say craving sugar, surely it's more specific forms of sugar? That can help us give further options. Be careful of SF candies as many use sorbitol, which in any volume, is a laxitive. Good Luck, Tek
