Nervous....surgery date is July 18....Is nervouseness normal??
Barbiek replied to Lk2teach's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
LK2teach, Had my surgery July 2 and I am 7 days post-op now and doing well and you will do well too. Once they put me out, I don't remember a thing except waking up in recovery. I am still a little sore, but am doing well. My advice is to get plenty of rest afterwards. I went back to work 6 days after surgery and wished I would have taken off another day or two. Good Luck to you and keep us posted! -
Your welcome Megan, And make sure you get plenty of rest. I went back to work 6 days after surgery, and although I have a desk job, it was too soon. I needed another day or two of rest. I am doing good now. I'll be sending good thoughts your way! Good Luck!

1dayat at time, You are welcome! That's what we are all here for. When I send out posts, people always reply. It's nice having the support here. I didn't tell many people about my surgery, so this is my only support (besides husband and sister - but they really don't know what I am going through)! PS: I noticed you lost 9.5 lbs ~ just like me! May we both have continued success in our weight loss! -
Good luck to you Vanman! I know that you are nervous, but you will be fine. I felt the same way pre-op, but now that I am post-op, it's very exciting! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery, and you keep us posted as well!

Seashell, I think you might have gallstones. Have you checked for that? When people (especially women) lose weight fast, gallstones develop and are very painful. I am no doctor, but you may want to check with your doctor. (I learned this with the material I received pre-op, plus my sister and brother both had their gallbladder removed recently, and they described similar pain). Even if the pain goes away, it does come back, so please go to the doctor! Also you can check your symptons by going to WEBMD.COM Good luck, and let me know what happens.

Happy Birthday Zeama and congratulations on getting banded! What a nice birthday present for yourself! I was banded on July 2 and am doing well. Each day gets better. I promise! And yes, you WILL succeed! Keep up the good work and keep us posted!

Hey Megan, I know EXACTLY how you feel. Once they called me with the surgery date, I freaked out. I was fine for the 9 months of all the pre-op stuff, but the minute they called me to give me a date, I had so many mixed emotions ("am i doing the right thing?", scared to death, what if something happens to me, and excitement as well). Mostly scared up until my July 2 surgery. Once I had surgery, and realized I was alive, then the excitement really kicked in for me. I am now 7 days post op, feeling good, and am down 9.5 lbs (woo hoo!). You will have no regrets. Stay positive and just keep remembering your goal. It will get you through and you will do fine. Good Luck to you!

Have some questions **Newbie**
Barbiek replied to 1day at a time's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi 1day, I too was banded on July 2. I think you are doing ok. I am on full liquids right now (protien drinks, soup, sugar free pudding). I don't feel very hungry yet, but I am eating til I am full - which is pretty darn quick these days, even with liquids. I drink more than 2 oz at a time. I was never told not to drink too much. I was only told to drink 1 hour after meals, but drink slowly. Not sure if this helps or not, but I think you are doing fine. -
Thanks Slim1, Actually, right after the surgery I gained like 5 lbs due to the I.V. that I was hooked up to for fluids and some gas too I'm sure. So I actually took off the 9 lbs + the temporary 5 lbs gained from surgery. (So 14 total, but I don't count the 5 from surgery). You won't see a weight change for several days, then BOOM!, it just starts falling off! Good luck to you and I am glad you are feeling better! (Now I am going to try to fix this ticker! Thanks!

Sallen21, You just need to rest right now! Your throat hurts because there was a tube in it during surgery. I had the same problem, and then I coughed and some gooky stuff came out. Throat pain only lasted 1 day. Gets some rest and take your pain meds and I promise you will be feeling better in a couple of days. I am 6 days post op (banded July 2) and today is the first day that I am actually feeling pretty good. Hang in there.

First Goal Met!! Almost to Onederland!
Barbiek replied to cookienay's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats Cookienay! What an exciting time for you! I hope that I can get to that point and be just as excited. I was banded last Wed (July 2) and am already down 9 lbs! I keep wondering if this could continue and your message has really inspired me! (I always think in the back of my mind if this is really going to work for me.) Thank you for your words of encouragement and I'm sure you will be in onederland very soon! Congratulations and Best of Luck with your continued weight loss! -
Slim1, Can't believe you are up and on the computer already! Glad you are doing good. So how are you feeling today? I'm sure you are sore. I am 6 days post op and doing well. I went back to work today, and trying to take it easy still. I am a little sore still, but not bad. I've lost 9 lbs since surgery, but I don't know how to move my "ticker" yet. 9 lbs gone forever! Looking forward to this lapband journey! Keep us posted!

Hi Nick, I just had surgery last week (July 2) and I am doing well. I had the same excitement and fears as you are currently experiencing. My biggest fear was that I was not going to wake up from surgery. Once I did wake up, and realized I was alive, I felt pretty good. They took out the breathing tube while I was still asleep, so I never really knew it was there. I did not have any nausea at all and have not had any since the surgery. Most difficult part of surgery was the gas pain and soreness. I was very sore after surgery, and continue to have some soreness, but today I feel pretty darn good. I will be going back to work tomorrow. I am happy with my decision to have the lapband surgery. Good luck with your surgery and your new journey!

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
Barbiek replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I had my surgery on July 2. I was first up for surgery that morning so I had to leave my house at 5:00 a.m. to be at the hospital by 6:00. Surgery was scheduled for 8:00. My husband drove me to the hospital, and I was very worried the whole time driving and also when I got there. But as soon as they put on the gas mask, I was out, and I don't remember a thing after that except waking up in recovery. My first thought was "Thank God I'm Alive!" and felt very happy that I woke up from surgery, as this was my biggest concern. I was not afraid of surgery, I was afraid of anesthesia. After being in the recovery room for a while, they moved me into a private room and I just slept. They gave me morphine pain medication (whoo hoo!) and all was well at that point! I was not able to eat anything at all that day, but they gave me these little sponges with a long stick to keep my mouth moist. I wanted to suck all the water out of those little sponges but they wouldn't let me, they were only to keep your mouth moist. Well, I stayed overnight (insurance requirement) and then they wheeled me to x-ray the next morning where I had to drink a few sips of barium (yuck!) and they took the x-ray and said everything was fine. I was wheeled back to my room for my first meal which was an all clear liquid (tea, jello, chicken broth, apple juice) and that went down fine. I was not hungry, but it did taste good. About an hour later they gave me my 2nd meal (cottage cheese, vanilla pudding, soup) and that went down ok too. After that they said I can go home. I was fine on the way home. I put a pillow between me and the seat belt (highly recommeded for the ride home) and was on my way. I very sore the next day (sore like I've been hit by a truck) and each day has gotten better. I am 4 days post op now and I am feeling much better. Still sore and a little gas pain, but it's manageable. Each day gets better. I will be going back to work on Tuesday, July 8 and I should be ready by then. I am very happy with my decision to have lap band and I am looking forward to this journey. -
Lynda, We have all been there, struggling with weight etc and we know how you feel. Best of luck to you on Tuesday. I just got banded last Wed, July 2 and am starting to feel good. Very happy with my decision and you will be too! Keep us posted.

Hi all, I am doing ok today. Still sore, but not as much. Little gas pains in my left shoulder but better today. Bloating is starting to subside (thank goodness)! I am not very hungry since I had surgery. Do you all feel like that? I ate a yogurt this a.m. and a little soup but that's it. I'm kind of worried that I am not getting enough protien in. I feel like I have to force myself to eat! Wow, what a concept! ha ha! I am going to take it easy tomorrow (Monday) and then go back to work on Tuesday. I hope I am fine by then. Hope you all are doing well!

Another Newbie With Questions <3.
Barbiek replied to Selenium's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Selenium, And welcome to Lapband talk. You will find all the info you need on this site. I had lapband surgery on July 2 and I am doing well. Just like you, I have done every diet imaginable and could not get the weight off or keep it off. Good luck to you in your weight loss journey. And I am sorry for the loss of your father. Hope you are going well. God Bless! -
Toliveagain, I have never heard of the "emergen C" drink so I cannot comment on that. I was banded on July 2 and did not have anything to eat that day, but had only clear liquids for my first meal (day 2), and then after that my doctor said I can have creamy soups, yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese and protien drinks. I have to do this diet for 2 weeks and than I can advance from there after I see my doctor for the 2 week check up. I guess all doctors are different. I am doing fine on what I am eating now. No problems.

I was banded on July 2 and I was scared and excited at the same time. Mostly scared so that is normal. When I woke up from surgery and realized I was alive, that's when the excitement really kicked in! I am doing well and very happy with my decision. Good luck to you all. I have been there and know exactly how you feel. You will be fine. It's hard, but try not to worry.

July 5- Ladies who are new bandsters, how are you feeling?
Barbiek replied to zeama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had surgery July 2 and I am doing well. Still very sore and bloated. Not hungry at all. I am trying to force myself to get in all the protien and water, but that is still difficult for me. I'm sure I will get use to it. Happy with my decision.
