Where to get fills in Utah?

Yes I also just heard back from Dr. McKeen's office.. Yes the cost is $375 for the first one and $325 after that. Please call 1-801-465-1100 for an appointment. Thanks Wow - super duper - I knew several Utah bandsters that went to Dr. Greene but since he raised prices (or the hospital did) most can go to Mexico for around the same price. Dr. McKeen's price is very reasonable - i looked at his site (www.southbaybariatrics.com) and he seems competent/experienced and I plan to give him a try. I will report back.
  2. I had one unfill due to eating a piece of sushi at 9:30 in the morning -it started me throwing up until i couldn't even keep my spit down. Day two after that i flew to TJ (first class only availablle) and had a very expensive unfill. I just got a re-fill and I'm not even close to my first fill level- If I decide to stick with this, I figure it will take another 4-8 fills and several thousand dollars to hit the sweet spot the lucky folks describe.

    Throwing in the towel

Boo, Love You - Thanks for all you said - I swam 30 laps tonight and it felt so good - i forgot how much i love to swim and it was very therapuetic - peaceful. I will email you...still hoping to meet up in Utah? and Jack - awesome...nothing like fitting into smaller pants to put a smile on your face. I agree...the support on this board has lifted me when discouraged, made me laugh, question, think...it's all good and I'm thankful for everyone here.

    Typical Meal?

Hey Chelley, mary s here - I just saw your post...girl are you eating enough calories - yeah i know you can't put it in when you are having a day of pbing But your memu looked really teeny - it looked like 600 calories to me. Do you think you might not be eating enough - maybe your body is in that starvation mode and holding onto your weight? Also, it didn't look like enough Protein - i'm sure dr. miranda can address that better than me... do you like cottage cheese and milk - they are easy to eat and i like mixing yogurt with cottage cheese (approx 28grams of protein/1 cup) - it makes it more substantial. Best of all - good protein sources. Also fish and Beans are good protein sources - i cook black beans until really soft and the blend them - healthier refried beans and pretty easy to get down (though don't go crazy they are still thick). i know others have addressed the hair loss before and I'm sorry abbout that - i'm sure that sucks. I hope you get some good advice/relief with that. lastly my favorite protein shakes are EAS myoplex lite - they ae a bit higher in protein than slimfast and you can mix with milk or Water. The premixed ones are not as good so less convenient than slimfast - you need the blender but the choc and vanilla - killer and tropical flavors really good too. Take care, mary
  5. I gained the most weight (75 lbs in a year) due to eating a HUGE refried bean and rice burrito every night - i had the highest stress job -was working around the clock but made sure to get by burrito brothers every night before closing. the thing weighed 5lbs i'm sure and i know it was the concentrated carbs plus stress that packed the lbs on. I would actually rotate restaurants so they wouldn't see me every night - carbs have always packed it on me but i love em - was a vegetarian and could be easily one again - never liked meat much.
  6. I can't say i've had any huge cravings but I did start drinking V8 juice like a madwoman right after surgery - I've always loved tomatoes but the juice almost made me throw up - I would pour it for my guy holding my breath. Now about 10 months out - I can take it or leave it again.

    Throwing in the towel

I think my metabolism is totally in the toilet - if i ate over 2000 i would be steadily gaining weight - i need to keep it at max 1200 with exercise daily to get a lb off. I seem to be able to maintain at around 1500 My history of dieting - over 25+ years has i'm sure wrecked my body - my weight has fluctuated at least 40lbs a year - almost every year of my adult life. My highest wt was over 230 and my lowest since birth was 126 and I've never maintained any weight for more than 1 year. I did have my thyroid checked (once) and it was suppossedly fine. In the past two years I had also noticed none of the old diets i had successfully lost weight on were working anymore - my old favorite scardsdale didn't even get 5lbs off me - 6 weeks of weight watchers - lost 1.5 lbs. - This was a big factor in deciding on the surgery - hopelessness! I think age - getting close to 40- and history of dieting are playing more of a role in my weight loss than starting with a lower bmi - Cashley: I can't say I like the feeling of a PB (it wipes me out emotionally and physically) but I can say looking back at my food diaries - it's usually the only time I lose weight - I'll lose 3-4 from going on liquids; gain back 1-2 when I start eating but some usually stays off. Pitiful!
  8. Donna, I would suggest calling your doc since it's so frequent and I'm sure scary - I actually get pains around my port if I eat too much and while they are sort of like you describe, i don't want you taking any chances on maybe something more serious. Good luck and i'm sure others will have better suggestions.

    Tortillas?

All I can say is sometimes I can and sometimes I can't - I never know what makes a difference as it changes from day to day and meal to meal - there are no constants for me with the band - it is always a mystery what will work. Whenever I eat them I basically gum them to death - and just the smallest nibble.

    PB'g at Work

I just returned from a walk cuz I was pbing from lunch. I ate a lean cuisine chicken pannini - have had one before as I can eat toasted bread - i nibbled three bites, chewed to goo and while I thought it was just hard - it ended up coming back up. I would stick to liquids as you can never tell from meal to meal or day to day what will happen.

    Throwing in the towel

Thank you all - the support and non-judgemental suggestions and questions have already pulled me out of the despair I've felt the last few days. Interestingly, today I tried a lean cusine chicken pannini - had 3 nibbles and just pb'd a little - ugh - Strawarts - You didn't steal my thunder - we are in synch - this band drives me more crazy than dieting ever did (or close). Teresita thanks for the suggestion of TOPS it is the one thing I've never tried so I will because I do need in person support. Sleepyjean - I decided to get this band because I was at my wits end with dieting - have done every program, every diet under the sun, since i was 11 and even though they have never worked in keeping the weight off, they usually work in the short term and I so want to get at least 25lbs off, I am willing to try them again. And, Pete, I too have obeyed orders though not 100% of the time. I did not find this group until after I was banded and before that I talked to coordinators who were successful with the band and a few patients who again were successful/happy. I did not talk to anyone who wasn't happy and I admit it, I was blinded and heard what I wanted to - yes, i knew it was a tool and I would have to do work but I feel like I'm doing the work I 'signed up for' and its still not working I'll close by echoing Strawarts and others sentiment - this band is so damn fickle - I'm thinking one second wide open - anything goes in - the next i'm tight as a drum and not knowing what will work from meal to meal just messes with my head as much as my pre band "what diet will i be on today" mentality. I will keep everyone posted and still plan to stay around - Thanks, Mary
  12. Since banding I've realized my definition of hunger and full have had to change drastically (esp fullness). Before banding hunger was the thought of food or eating regardless of what my body was saying and full was uncomfortable and just short of thanksgiving stuffed. Now I'm seeing hunger as when my stomach growls and doesn't go away after drinking 8 oz of water and full is pitiful - it's barely getting rid of the growling and usually I burp and know to stop -it's a long long long way from what used to be full. My question: What physical or other symptoms tell you you are hungry and What physical or other symptoms tell you you are full Thanks:help:
  13. I can relate - i had my third fill on 8/23 and actually feel less restricted than before the fill. I'm so frustrated - and call me clueless but I didn't even realize there was a 4 cm band - i have the 9.75 cm and am at 2.0. My first fill was at 2.3 and i didn't have much then but since the unfill my weight is going up and up again. I already booked another flight to T.J.. on Sept 11 for more of a fill. I also do find that carbs don't fill me up as much either - straight protein is a better filler - good you are losing weight even if slow.

I recently pole danced at a strip club!

A local lingerie (sp?) store in my conservative state has pole and strip dancing classes and a friend and I are going to check it out. I'm a bit nervous cuz of my size but my boyfriend is thrilled and very enthusiastic for me to take this class - I'll report back if I don't hurt myself or the pole -
  15. Gosh tired old man you are right but I have to admit I loved it as a way to experience the canyon in a way one couldn't normally.

    Why didn't he listen???

mia - how absolutely awful for you -the pokes look very painful and I'm sure the whole thing was very upsetting for you. I've been in similar situations with docs and didn't speak up but good you did afterwards. You don't deserve that type of treatment. I hope you feel better soon.

I'll add my congrats too - the soreness and beat up feeling passes pretty quickly so hang in there. And DonnaB thanks for the maalox tip - i have several bottles now in the house and in the fridge they go tonight.

    What we ate today

Yoda, i want to be YOU - i had a fill on wed and can't even tell. today i had an egg mcmuffin for breakfast (mostly to see if I could) and got almost 3/4 down albeit pretty slowly. Lunch was potatoe broccoli soup and dinner was 1 cup noodles with black beans over the top - ate a pretty big bowl. only snacked on 10 nuts so not totally disgusted with myself but am living for the day i can eat one meal and feel full all day!
  19. I have had a few sips of drinks during meals when at a restaurant but it's under 5 times and never at home. At home I seem to be able to do it - I just don't have a glass of anything on the table nesxt to me. I wait one hour after meals and am about 85-90% successful at that - if I' m dying of thirst, have eaten something real spicy or salty I'll crack after 20-45 minutes. I'm realizing I'm not very good at keeping any rules 100%. Oh yeah, and my thought at night is - if i eat at 7:00 or 7:30 and go to bed at 9:30-11:00 and i'm not going to eat ANYTHING until morning - what's the big deal? Even if I wash food out of my pouch I'll suffer. Sometimes I don't have any liquids after dinner and other than I don't get up at night very much to use the bathroom any more - I wake up dying of thirst.

    Wu Long Tea

Has anyone tried wu long tea - it's suppossed to burn fat - yeah i know - it probably won't work But..... also if you've tried it - where did you get it and how did it work...thanks
  21. oh my gosh that is sooo helpful - gread advice. I just had my 3rd fill and am sitting here thinking it wasn't enough! I ate a big breakfast 2.5 hours before - my doc says two hours before no liquids or food and i took it too the limit. now i'm thinking i had too much food in me and i'll need more - oh well, live and learn but i'm getting so discouraged trying to find that sweet spot - discouraged and broke but as usual, my own darn fault. thanks again for posting that.

    Ideas on lap band

Good question - my doc said 3 days of liquids after the first fill but only 24 hours after subsequent ones (except an unfill was 3 days too) - i too think its due to the swelling and with the earlier fills probably more so since most are recovering from the surgery too...of course i didn't asky 'why' so next time i will. I always try to stick to what the doc says but have been known tomake my own rules too - stubburn me.

    Never admitted until NOW

I remember I was in high school and my brother drove me through the drive through for the first time - i was hooked and mesmerized. I think it's the first time I gained a ton of weight - almost 60lbs in one year. i went through every drive through in town. I even drove to a KFC on my 15 minute break every night and crammed down 3-4 little chicken sandwiches and a large fry. I have so many eating behaviors that I am sooo ashamed of - eating in bathroom stalls, eating roommates food and having to replace it (don't do that with gadiva chocolates they are very expensive - smile) - eating an entire pizza and having to order another - sneaking downstairs at night to eat - eating bags of halloween candy with no intention of giving it out - yikes that's all i can admit to for now!
  24. This is frightening to me as my doc didn't say a word about stopping the pill - myt bmi was pretty low but i took it straight through. scary. i'm gonna write him now so that others won't be at risk.
