  1. Hello! I’m scheduled for a revision on 8/8 as well! I had a VSG 18 months ago and have had terrible acid reflux and developed a hiatal hernia. I only lost about 40 lbs after my sleeve, too. I’m hoping the revision will not only take care of the acid reflux but that I’ll lose 50 more lbs! I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I hear that weight loss is much slower after a revision so I’m hoping I don’t get really frustrated. Maybe we can be surgery buddies and keep in touch! Keep us all posted on how things are going. I start my liquid diet on Monday. Good luck with everything!😊
  2. All my paperwork was submitted today to my insurance company to get the prior authorization needed for my surgery. I talked to my insurance company yesterday to make sure the bypass was a covered benefit and (thank you Jesus) it is. Because I’m having a revision from VSG to RNY a lot of my requirements had already been met. I had the VSG 18 months ago so I’ve kept up with all my post op appointments with the dietitian since then. My psych evaluation can be used from the VSG surgery for the RNY. I just had my endoscopy this past Tuesday. The only thing left is the prior authorization and I feel pretty confident I’ll be approved based on my medical diagnoses (GERD, hiatal hernia, sleep apnea…) I start my liquid diet on Monday. Only two weeks to go!!!😬
  3. I’m getting ready to have a revision from VSG to RNY because of really bad GERD, gastritis, and a hiatal hernia. I never had any problems with acid reflux prior to my sleeve. I’m looking forward to having the revision so the constant issues/burning will stop!
  4. Has anyone figured out how to utilize GenePro protein powder and not have your foods taste like a chemical lab experiment?! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

    Telling others

Only my husband and my sister knew prior to my surgery and even then my sister kept asking me “are you sure you want to do this?” I knew I definitely wanted and needed to have my surgery for a number of health reasons. I decided not to tell anyone else since I just didn’t feel like having to defend my decision! I didn’t feel like people would be negative about it; just concerned for my safety. My husband has continued to be my biggest supporter and cheerleader. I’m so glad he has been so positive with his attitude about my decision. However, I would have done it regardless of anyone’s support since I felt it was necessary for my health! … and I’m so glad I did it!😁

    August surgery buddies!

Wow! One month of liquid diet?! You can do it!!! Are you able to incorporate greek yogurt during this time? It was a life-saver for me during my liquid diet prior to my gastric sleeve surgery. I’m scheduled for a revision to RNY on August 8th so I start my liquid diet on Monday July 25th. I see my nutritionist at the bariatric center this morning to go over dietary requirements for RNY. I’m not nervous about the surgery since I’ve already had one bariatric procedure and did just fine. I just remember struggling some during the liquid diet. It can be tough but will be sooo worth it! 😁👍🏻

    August Surgery Buddies!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! It sounds like you’re prepared and have a wonderful support system. I had a gastric sleeve done 18 months ago but am now getting ready to have a revision (gastric bypass) on August 8th due to severe GERD. I wish I would have just had the bypass instead! Going through the two weeks of liquid diet can be tough but just keep your eyes on the prize! Swanson sipping bone broth is great to have on hand before and after surgery since it has a lot of protein. Remember to sip, sip, sip your water constantly after your surgery and get your bariatric vitamins ready (I take Barimelts.) I’ve rewatched a LOT of YouTube videos in preparation for my surgery; they’re very helpful and motivating. I know you’re going to do well! Be sure to keep us all updated! Best wishes!😁

    August Surgery Buddies!

Yeah, I wasn’t happy with my results from the sleeve either so I’m glad I’m having the revision. I really had to get my head on straight about food before my surgery so it’s great that you’re preparing ahead of time. I was up and about immediately after my sleeve surgery so I’m hoping I will do the same after my bypass. I had to remember to take it easy because I felt fine afterwards. I only had a short period of pain and nausea while I was in the hospital and I got over it pretty quickly. I only spent one night in the hospital. I hope you do very well after your surgery! You definitely must keep us all posted!

    Help! VSG or Bypass

Definitely a good choice having the bypass especially if you already have issues with acid reflux. I’m getting ready to have a revision from sleeve to gastric bypass because of the terrible reflux I have.

    August Surgery Buddies!

I feel the same way about my fur baby. Wow! American Eskimos! Beautiful babies! What all is your surgeon having you do to prepare for your surgery? I’m actually having a gastric bypass as a revision to my gastric sleeve. I’ve had terrible acid reflux after my sleeve so the bypass should help with the GERD. Plus, I’m hoping to lose 30 more lbs since I only lost 40 lbs after my sleeve. I really should have had the bypass to begin with! Even though my BMI is 30, I still have to do the two weeks of liver shrinking diet prior to my surgery.
  11. Be sure you are getting your protein and taking your vitamins. I take biotin and extra zinc along with my multivitamin with iron. It helps if you get vitamins that are specific to bariatric patients since they are formulated better for us. I order Barimelts and they are chewable so easier to take. I’ve been taking my vitamins religiously every day and even though I’ve still had some hair loss it hasn’t been too bad. Just know that the hair loss will slow once your body adjusts after surgery. Hang in there! 💕

Hi!!! Thanks for welcoming me to the group! 😁 I have a Japanese Chin. She’s my little sweetie! 💕 Are you a doggie mommy, too?

    Help! VSG or Bypass

Not sure if this helps but I had VSG in Feb 2020 and never had any problems with GERD prior to surgery. Since my surgery I have terrible GERD and am now getting ready to have a revision to a bypass. Also, I only lost 40 lbs after my VSG. Wish I had just had the bypass to start with!

    Days like this

After my surgery I only lost my appetite for a few weeks and then my stomach started actually growling at me again! I have “munchie days”, too where I seem to be hungry all the time. I try to tell myself that it’s head hunger and resist grazing in the fridge. When I just have to have something I’ll have a Swanson’s Chicken Sipping Bone Broth. It’s low calorie and pretty high in protein and it does help curb my hunger. Try having more protein when you eat an actual meal. It does seem to help.

    My story

I had surgery 7 months ago, as well and I’ve been in a stall for 6 weeks! I get pretty frustrated but have to remember to stick to the plan! I know if I do that then the weight will start to come off again. I’ve lost 80 lbs so far and I have about 35 to go to hit my goal. I can see that tiny light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there! You can do this!!! You’re doing great!💕
  18. I’m 52, 5’9” and my HW: 275. My pre-op weight was 242. I’m currently at 195. My surgery was February 9, 2021. I feel like I should have lost more by now and I’ve been in a stall for about 6 weeks. I’m happy being down 80 lbs but I do understand the frustration of a stall. My doctor wants me to try to get to 163 and being stuck in a stall for so long makes me wonder if this is all I’m going to lose. I would give anything to be down a hundred lbs!!! I’m not giving up, though. Everyday is a struggle to stay on track but I do. I’m being positive that eventually those last 32 lbs will be gone. It just might take me longer than most given my age, being post-menopausal, and having hypothyroidism. Everybody is different and we lose at different rates. Keep your chin up and feel proud of what you’ve accomplished so far!💕
  19. I’m so sorry you’re feeling alone! I completely understand how you feel. I decided not to share my decision for surgery with anyone but my husband so I didn’t have any other support except for people on this website. Just know we are all here for you and you will get to know people. I know it’s not the same as having face-to-face communication but chatting with people on here was so helpful for me. I had surgery February 9 of this year so I’m only 5 months out. I still have questions about things sometimes. You should feel proud of yourself for taking all this on on your own! You can do this! Just think how great you’ll feel a few months from now with your weight decreasing. The surgery recovery wasn’t too bad for me. I was up and about at home the day after I was released from the hospital. I only spent one night there. The nurses will give you all the help you need while you are there and your doctor and dietitian will be there for you anytime after. You won’t be alone! Hang in there!!!💕
  20. Congratulations! You look wonderful! I can’t wait until I hit my goal weight. I have about 30 lbs to go! I’ve lost 75 so far.

    Postop diet advice

First of all, congratulations on your weight loss! 25 lbs is great! However, I do understand how you feel when your weight loss slows or stalls. What I did recently was cut back on dairy and carbs and started incorporating more healthy fats like avocado and green olives. I even started drinking bulletproof coffee in the morning. (Coffee with a teaspoon of Kerrygold unsalted butter. Trust me, you can’t taste it.) I stopped drinking protein shakes and use GenePro protein powder to supplement my protein levels. I use MyFitnessPal app to track my macros and keep tabs on how many calories I’m eating. I can’t exercise very well because of a spine condition but I try to stay very active around the house doing chores, etc… Watch your sugar/carb intake through yogurt and oatmeal. Try switching to boiled eggs in the morning. These are things that have worked for me. I know everybody is different but these are just suggestions. Just thought I would share. Take it one day at a time, listen to what your body tells you, and keep going! You CAN do this!!!

    Walking shoes recommendations

I swear by ASICS or Reebok DMX because they run wider. I worked on my feet as an ophthalmic technician for about 15 years and those shoes were the only ones that wouldn’t cause joint pain in my knees, ankles, and feet. I usually get them through Kohl’s when I get a really good coupon or Amazon on sale. However, if you’re still having intense pain I would go to a walking shoe store and have shoes fitted or maybe even see a podiatrist.

    Surgery in 2 weeks

I watched a lot of YouTube videos about preparing for surgery and found it very helpful. I also read Dr Duc Vuong’s Gastric Sleeve Success before surgery. His videos are extremely helpful, too.

    Scared shtless

Touch base with your dietitian and let him/her know how you are feeling. It’s normal to have doubts and fears! Your support team is there for you anytime! After my surgery I dealt with head hunger pretty bad and found that hot/warm liquids helped satisfy the cravings. I drank a lot of Swanson Chicken Bone Broth, Better Than Bullion beef flavor, and cinnamon tea. Soon after I did develop actual hunger and my stomach would growl. I still struggle with this (I’m five months post-op) and when I could move to puréed foods I would eat foods mixed really well in my food processor. I can still only eat about two ounces at a time and if I feel the need for a snack I eat green olives, boiled eggs, or dill pickles. Try to avoid sugary fruits or too many sweet potatoes. This can slow your weight loss progress. I still only incorporate small amounts of carbs (steamed broccoli, green beans, spinach, etc), dairy, or berries. Be sure you are getting lots of protein and taking your multivitamins, B vitamins, iron, biotin, and calcium. You need to supplement your diet with these since you can’t get everything you need with food. You are going to be okay!!! Take it one day at a time and I know you will be very happy with your results. You can also always reach out to people on this forum for support! 💕
