I have been underweight most of my life and then I met the love of my life and had a hysterectomy at the same time so I'm not sure which was responsible for my weight gain but regardless, I am responsible for being irresponsible. I have secretly known that my eating habits were not normal or healthy and thought I was hiding it from the world. Hah! My 4' 11" 190+ petite built body was eventually diagnosed as morbidly obese with health issues in abundance. I checked all the boxes required for WLS covered by Medicare and my secondary.
I was approved and scheduled for surgery in March of 2018 but I got bacterial pneumonia with sepsis and the surgery had to be cancelled. The most likely cause was food aspiration due to GERD.
I was in intensive care for 3 weeks, transition for one and rehab for 3. I was not approved for surgery until a year later. The surgery was again scheduled for June 2020, then COVID19 hit so all surgeries were cancelled. I was rescheduled for July but I didn't realize I needed to discontinue hormone therapy so I had to wait another month. Finally, I had my bypass on August 3, 2020.
No complications, no pain except gas which was easily managed. Having difficulty managing my diet but learning the hard way. One major slip - pizza. That was when I had to face my food addiction. I do want to be successful but true to my nature, I don't want it to be uncomfortable. Yet it seems that I need it to be uncomfortable to force me to face facts.
No matter, I am happy with my decision and have no regrets. I am looking forward to emptying my medicine cabinet.
