Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
STLoser replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was able to climb the ladder to help my husband hang Christmas lights on the house. I used to be more than 100 pounds over the weight limit for that ladder and now I'm 100 pounds UNDER. Also, I couldn't physically climb a ladder even if I wanted to because my stomach was so big it got in the way. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
What was your protein/day goal after surgery?
STLoser replied to Pete-TheTimeIsNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My goal was at least 90 a day because I had the Loop DS. I am 16 months post op now and I am supposed to get 100 or more a day now. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
What foods have you broken up with?
STLoser replied to Smanky's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I never was that into sweets anyway, but after surgery I found them disgusting, especially the shakes. It took everything I had to get them down early on. After about 6 months I was able to tolerate them and now I like the shakes again. I have never been a big bread or sandwich eater, but especially since surgery I find that I just don't care for bread very much. I can't even explain what it is but I don't enjoy it. I LOVED speaking water (like LaCroix) before surgery and drank it all the time. For the first year I was not allowed to have it, but then I could in moderation. I am 16 months post op and I've tried it twice in the last 2 weeks and it does nothing for me now. It even seems to upset my stomach a little now. I'm so surprised by this! I've always been a bit of a saltaholic too, and now things take a lot more salty to me. It's crazy! Other than those things, I still like most of the foods I liked before. Now that I can eat more I'm super happy to be able to fit in some veggies, which one always loved. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?
STLoser replied to doobie31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes! It is a totally foreign concept that I could not imagine either! It still amazes me that I'm satisfied when I eat and get full after such a small amount of food, when it felt like I could never get full before. I never would have been able to feel satisfied or survive on so few calories before I had wls, but the surgery changes everything and it's really no problem now. Yes, you still have to deal with head hunger and cravings, but even that is easier for me since the surgery. You will see! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?
STLoser replied to doobie31's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know for me, at 50 years old and 16 months out from my surgery, I'm up to around 1300 calories a day. Now I don't get that much all the time, but it's what my plan says I should have. Some days it's just hard to eat that much. For the first year I hardly ever got up to 1000. I also never felt unsatisfied with my food and I wasn't hungry for the first 6 months. I weighed 393 at my highest and I'm sure I ate around 3000 calories most days. You'll be amazed how different it is after surgery though. I deal with a lot more cravings and head hunger in the last few months , but I am still losing weight. It's has slowed to about 5 pounds a month, but I'm getting close to my goal so I am very happy. Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel
STLoser replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think you were smart and brave for backing out if you felt that way. You just need more time to prepare and decide if and when it's right for you. It took me 20ish years from when I started thinking about surgery to when I actually had it done, and while of course now I wish I'd done it sooner, I know that I did it at the right time for me and have no regrets. Be kind to yourself and give yourself more time to decide what is right for you. You're not a failure for taking this seriously! Good luck to you! I fired my clinic's nutritionist today

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
STLoser replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Now, I have always had wider calves than average, but when I weighed almost 400, they were super, super wide. I managed to find a pair of extra wide calf boots back then that fit but I could barely zip them up. I tried them on the other day and they're HUGE on me. I'm pretty sure I could fit BOTH calves in them now! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had my son at 39. Up until then I had a great sex drive, except once when I had severe depression. I got the baby blues after he was born and lost my sex drive again and it has never come back. I can get aroused in the moment, but I never think about it or really have a desire for it before hand. I am also 50 now so I'm sure I must be starting menopause. I have lost 179 so far and I had hoped that would help my sex drive, but it didn't. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone changed doctors before surgery!
STLoser replied to mrsjo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, and I was self pay so I didn't have to worry about insurance. It may be different with insurance. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Anyone changed doctors before surgery!
STLoser replied to mrsjo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did. I started the process in March 2020 and because of covid the hospital laid off a bunch of people, including that surgeon. I decided to go to a different hospital and surgeon. They did not make me start the whole process over. They just got my records and I didn't have to be retested for things I already had done. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Did you taste buds change immediately?
STLoser replied to AngieL11282's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It happened immediately for me. I found the protein shakes, which weren't too bad before, disgusting. I tried so many and they all tasted so gross. A lot of other things tasted weird too. It lasted probably the first months or so. I can drink protein shakes now and they taste fine! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Is popcorn a slider food for you?
STLoser replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, and as far as salad goes, I don't find it to be a slider food for me, but I but I always make sure to eat the protein out of it first to film up on that. Occasionally I've had salad as a first course, like out at a restaurant, but I eat a small amount so I won't fill up too much before I eat my protein. Is popcorn a slider food for you?
STLoser replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mostly mean calorie wise, but I do live in fear of eating too much volume also, and stretching my stomach. I'd be interested to know what your doctor says. Luckily, with things like chicken it's easy to know when I'm full enough, but slider foods I just have to keep it to a small portion. I'd love to hear what your doctor says when you see him! Is popcorn a slider food for you?
STLoser replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do notice that popcorn doesn't fill me up, so I know it is a slider food for me. I have only had it a couple times in the past year, including last night and I don't get the same restriction with it that I normally do. I just keep it to a small portion so I don't overdo it. Alcohol really no different
STLoser replied to Jaye W's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a Loop DS 14 months ago, and I rarely drink, but I haven't noticed a big difference either. The only thing I notice is it doesn't feel great in my stomach. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Gallbladder First, Sleeve Next
STLoser replied to Meganator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my gallbladder out 6 months before my wls. Overall, it was a fairly easy surgery, but I found it more painful than my wls. I had much more gas pain with the gallbladder than wls, but I did have nausea and vomiting after my wls, which for me is worse than pain. As far as surgeries go, and I've had 7, I found my wls to be one of the least painful. Since a large amount of weight loss can cause your gallbladder to act op, it's actually good to have it out before surgery. I'm glad I did. It was one less thing to worry about. Anyone with NAFLD
STLoser replied to readyforanewme3's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have NAFLD. I also had my gallbladder removed and a liver biopsy at the same time which showed hepatic fibrosis (scarring). This was the reason I decided to get wls. The pre-op diet shrinks your liver to make surgery safer. Any weight loss you have before surgery should help. It has been 14 months since my wls and my liver enzymes are now normal. I have lost 179 pounds total. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
STLoser replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I went to my doctor the other day, and the receptionist didn't recognize me! Also, when the nurse went to take my bp, there was a large cuff attached to the machine, and she changed it for the regular cuff! For many years now it's been the opposite so that felt so good! ProCare Health One A Day Vitamin
STLoser replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been taking the same Procare vitamin as you for about a year now and I have never had any nausea, but I do take it with my morning protein shake. I've never been someone that gets nausea from vitamins though. I know it can be a real problem for some people. Maybe try it with food and see if that helps. Good luck! Hives? Possible food allergies?
STLoser replied to jenny8791's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have them (knock on wood) and since my surgery, but in 2017 I started having them and at one point I had them for 8 months straight. It was a miserable. They would be in one spot then another and they didn't let up. I went to an allergist and was on very high doses of antihistamines. I was diagnosed with Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria. It is actually not an allergic reaction, although it's kind of like your body is allergic to itself. NOTHING helped and it was very distressing. I eventually took Xolair injections, and I don't know if they helped but the hives finally went away in late 2019. It sounds like you may have the same condition I have, and it's probably worth seeing an allergist to see if they can figure it out. Mine started suddenly out of the blue. My mom also gets chronic hives and has had several bouts with them over the years. It's one of the worst things I've ever had, so I really sympathize with you and hope you find out what's causing them and also get relief! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
