I'm glad you have good support. That is so important! I had visits from my bariatric team also while I was in the hospital and it was nice. I really felt my hospital experience was great. It gets easier and easier with getting protein. I'm struggling a little now that I'm eating more solid food because I just can't eat enough to get all the protein. I'm just trying to have more frequent smaller meals for now. We'll get through it! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

I was told 1/2 cup at a time. If it's something like yogurt, I can eat a whole half cup, but most other food I can eat 2 to 3 ounces at a time. I'm on week 5 and I can eat about 2 ounces of fish, or about 3 shrimp. I love veggies but I usually and full by the time I get to them. I am supposed to have 3 meals and one snack a day. Had the gastric bypass 8/18/20

I agree! I was on clear liquids with protein shakes for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after my surgery. I didn't to purees until 4 weeks! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had Loop DS. I was originally supposed to stay 2 nights, but I had a lot of nausea so they kept me 3. I had surgery on Thursday and went home Monday. I was much, much better when I went home. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

Wls is excluded on our insurance, so I had to pay out of pocket. It was 21,800, and includes the surgery, office visits for a year, labs, hospital stay, etc. The only thing not included is if a radiologist reads an xray or something like that. My surgeon is actually seeing me more often than his usual patients since it's all included. I considered surgery for years but it's never been covered by any insurance I've had. I was also much smaller and still healthy, so it wasn't urgent. In January I found out I have NASH with scarring, and in May was diagnosed with high BP. I'm 49 and I wasn't diabetic but my mom had it 47 and she's much smaller than me so it was a matter of time. It was a huge amount of money to spend, but I can't spend it anyway if I'm dead, so I decided to do it. It has been worth every penny. I'm off BP meds and my liver enzymes were down after surgery so hopefully that issue will continue to resolve. I don't regret it all. I feel so much better already! I forgot to add, I've had shrimp and it went down well. So far, I've tolerated all the new foods I've tried, which is a relief! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes, those are all some of my favorite foods and I'm happy to be at this stage now! You'll be here before you know it! It has gone by fast! I haven't been seeing a lot of people thanks to Covid, but the reactions have been positive with my best friend, and my mom and husband are completely supportive. My mom is thrilled for me because she knows how much I've struggled to lose weight most of my life, and my husband has been with me at 240 pounds when he met me to 393 at my highest. He's been very helpful since surgery and I'm lucky to have him. And my 9 year old son has been too! How are you feeling? And how are your friends and family reacting? After the first 2 weeks (I had surgery July 23rd), I have been able to drink pretty normally. I can drink about 16 to 20 ounces in an hour or less. Honestly, I never have counted how much water I'm getting, but I've always drank a lot of water, and even though it's less right now than before surgery, I'm still drinking plenty, and I know I'm well hydrated. As long as you can drink every so often like your supervisor said I bet you'll be fine! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm on week 5, which is semi-solid foods. I'm really looking forward to next week, because I can have lettuce and frozen veggies! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

I've always wanted to take a surfing lesson in Hawaii. I've now been twice, 10 years ago when I was 6 months pregnant (and too fat anyway), and in 2018 at my high weight at 393. I plan to go again someday and I WILL take my surfing lesson. I'll most likely fail miserably at it, but it's still something I want to try! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

Yeah, purees really gross me out. I had trouble with that week. I'm much better now that that is over. I'm not a picky eater, except when it comes to how food looks. I can't eat it if it looks gross, and purees look gross! I'm doing pretty good today. Tomorrow I get to advance my diet. I can have shrimp and tofu which I'm super excited about! Don't worry too much about the drain, it comes out pretty fast and then it's a relief! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

It could be! This is the hardest thing for me because I've always been a gulper, and I know when I take a sip that's too big or too fast I get that pressure. I hope that's what it is and you feel better! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

I had GERD before surgery, but it has been well controlled on ppi's for several years now. I had silent reflux and symptoms, especially severe heartburn that was pretty much every day, every time I ate. I'm 4 weeks post op, and I have not had any GERD symptoms, but I do get that sensation you describe if I drink too fast, and early on I had it with really cold liquids. Do you use a lot of ice in your water and Crystal Light? If so, I wonder the cold is causing that. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

I had trouble in the recovery room and I was so nauseous the first 3 days after surgery. I felt miserable, and I've always bounced back quickly with other surgeries. I kept asking myself why I did this and I was very down about it. But each day, I got a little better. I'm 4 weeks out tomorrow and I don't regret it at all now! I think it's pretty common to go through those feelings after surgery, but it gets better! Hang in there, you will be feeling better before you know it! Exercise for loose skin
STLoser replied to Lynda486's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It really makes me sad that when you're working so hard to do something good for yourself, instead of cheering you on, your husband and son had to be negative and point out something you can't control unless you get plastic surgery. [emoji3525] Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Things I won't miss about being fat!
STLoser replied to ChubRub's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh, one thing I want to add. I'm 5'3", and at my high weight of 393 I was probably as big around as I was tall, and my stomach touched the steering wheel in my car. It was very uncomfortable. I am 343 now and my stomach no longer touches the steering wheel and I sure won't miss that! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Genepro and whey intolerance/non whey protein recommendation
STLoser replied to kaRmakat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with this. I could tolerate whey protein and the protein shakes pre-op, but I find them disgusting now. Collagen peptides are the only thing that saved me. There is a very slight taste, but I've mixed it into a lot of things and I don't even notice it. Now, I don't eat beef, and the collagen is made with bovine hide, but I just accepted it as a necessary, but temporary, evil until I can get all my protein from food. I'm just mentioning it in case bovine hide would be something you don't want in your food. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Surgery for non-weight reasons?

I want to add that asthma is considered a comorbidity of obesity. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Mine was late before surgery, and of course it started the day after I had surgery. [emoji849] It wasn't too bad at least. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

It hurt a little. Nothing excruciating. I have had those drains before when I had a breast reduction and I thought they hurt much more coming out then than this one. It was more sore after it came out. It mostly felt weird when it came out. The soreness lasted a few days. It wasn't too bad though. For me it was a relief to have the drain out because I kept catching it on things and the hole where it was was sore. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

Surgery for non-weight reasons?
STLoser replied to cmac1mcB's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm an asthmatic, and I'm 49. I was never skinny but did not become obese until my late 20s, and not severely morbidly obese until 2010 when I had my son. I was not diagnosed with asthma until around 2015, and it was severe at the time. I did my surgery for WEIGHT LOSS to improve my asthma, liver disease, and newly diagnosed hypertension, along with wanting to prevent diabetes, which runs heavily in my family and I didn't have my some miracle. To say I did the surgery for all those things is true, but the common denominator here is that obesity can cause or worsen all of those conditions, so it would make no sense at all to say I didn't do this for weight loss. Getting my weight off is the only thing that will help some of those things. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Things I won't miss about being fat!
STLoser replied to ChubRub's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm new here and still early in my journey (almost 4 weeks post op Loop DS). I have a long way to go, but I've had many years to think of all the things I won't miss when lose weight. I won't miss: -having NASH with hepatic fibrosis and worrying about getting cirrhosis -getting out of breath and sweating with very little activity -having to buy clothes online since I wear a 30 and they don't have it in stores. -having plus size clothes fit wrong because I'm short and my arms and shoulders aren't that big for my size. If something fits my stomach and butt the sleeves are usually huge -the rashes I get in various places from skin rubbing -having to wear powder to try to avoid rashes -going to my 9 year old son's school events and being fatter than all the other mom's, and most of them are unfriendly to me and I know that's why -worrying about embarrassing my son. I know how mean kids are -being invisible, even though you can't miss me. (20 or so years ago I was a size 12. The way people treated me then was completely different) -not being able to keep up with my very active, never sit still, skinny son -the Buffalo hump on my upper back that makes so many things uncomfortable -hurting all over -being unhealthy and feeling worse all the time -not being able to sit in booths at restaurants -worrying about dying young from obesity related conditions and leaking my son. I'm 49, and I was an older mother -not having my outside match my young at heart inside. I feel 25 inside and about 70 on the outside There's are so, so many things I could never list them all, but these are some of the biggest things. 30-30-30 rule with water
STLoser replied to Motivated54's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 4 weeks out, and this is the hardest thing for me. I'm used to drinking a huge amount with food and in general, so it's hard to sip. I'm doing what I'm supposed to though, and I know it'll get easier with time. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app
