I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks after surgery, then full for a week. It was by far the hardest part of surgery for me, even more than the post op nausea and a kidney stone I had 11 days post op. It feels like forever when you're going through it, but it passes quickly and before you know it, it is over. Once you get past liquids it is so much easier! Hang in there! Indented incision

I didn't have it with this surgery, but I had my gallbladder out in January and had a dented in incision. It is normal, and mine went away after a while. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
How many meds/vitamins do you take daily?
STLoser replied to LAJ23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take about 10 pills, and like you I'm used to just taking a handful at once. I'm 7 weeks post-op, and I'm able to do that now in the last week or so without a problem. So you may get to that point also. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Is weight loss surgery more effective long term than dieting?
STLoser replied to Deb9386's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For me, I could never lose much weight, and definitely couldn't keep it off. I would give up because I never saw good results. I ate mostly healthy, but still too much food, obviously. WLS is just the tool I needed to learn to control my portions. Now I am seeing results for my efforts and losing like I never could before. There's no way I could do this without surgery. The first week, I really regretted the surgery and kept asking why I did this to myself. I cried a lot. I felt overwhelmed. I'm happy to report that the first couple weeks were the hardest, and after that it got better. I'm 7 weeks out and I feel great now! I'm so happy I got my surgery!! I had a bit of a tough time with it. I'm not a picky eater when it comes to different types of foods, but I'm very picky about how things look and the texture. And I can't eat something pureed, like meat, that isn't normally pureed. I just can't bring myself to do it. I survived by eating already pureed type foods like applesauce. After that week things got SO much easier! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

All the DS Switch friends

I also vomited old blood the first 2 days and my book they gave me clearly says do everything to avoid vomiting at you don't mess up the surgery. I was freaking out, but no one seemed concerned. Woulda been nice to know that might happen! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
All the DS Switch friends
STLoser replied to klwilliams's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am still not very far out. I had Loop DS on July 23rd. I wouldn't have even known about this surgery if my first surgeon wasn't let go because of COVID. I had planned to get RNY. I went to a different and since my bmi was 69 he suggested Loop DS. I was self pay so I didn't have to worry about insurance. I chose this because of my starting weight being so high (I was 393 at 5'3"), and because diabetes runs in my family. I did not have it yet and I'd rather not get it. I also have fatty liver disease which is why I chose wls in the first place. I've lost 55 pounds altogether, and 30 since my surgery. I do not regret this surgery at all.. So far I've tolerated every food I've tried, which I am so happy about. I am not having diarrhea, except once or twice. I'm mostly having some constipation. The surgery was not too painful, but I did have a lot of nausea the first few days, but I'm pretty sure I had a kidney stone which caused that, because I passed one later. I'm feeling amazing, even though I have a long way to go. I was to the point of barely being able to get around and there is so much improvement already! I knew since I had to pay for this, I only had one shot, so I picked what my surgeon calls "the most powerful operation", and I'm so glad I did! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -

I had Loop DS on July 23rd. The first couple days were rough, I was very nauseated and vomited several times and had back pain on the left side. I passed a kidney stone 11 days later, and my surgeon thinks that was why I had a rough time in the hospital. I stayed 3 nights, but was much better on the 4th day when I went home. I never had any pain in my incisions except where the drain was and that was mild soreness. I had my gallbladder out in January and that was more painful to me. The gas pain with that was much, much worse. I had pretty mild gas pain with this. I also walked a lot, even though I felt bad in the hospital, I got up and walked as much as I could. I think after that little glitch in the beginning I have had a very smooth recovery and I'm feeling amazing! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Only 2 days on "pureed" diet?
STLoser replied to LAJ23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on clear liquids/shakes for 2 weeks, then full liquid for a week, then a week of pureed before moving to soft. It definitely varies between practices. If that's what your doctor says I'd go with it. Lucky! [emoji23] Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Thank you for your response it is so helpful. It's funny, because I'm having constipation too! At my last appointment my surgeon asked if I was having diarrhea and I said no, constipation and he looked at me kinda funny. Lol I do tend to second guess everything, and worry that I'm doing something wrong. I am losing so I know I need to stop worrying so much. It helps a lot to hear other's experiences. I will talk to my surgeon about it when I see him, but I guess it is just the way my body reacts. I always I shouldn't complain. I'm feeling so much better than I was before surgery! I've got a long way to go but the weight loss has already made a big difference Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

So I'm almost 5 weeks post Loop DS. For the first couple weeks I had no hunger or full sensation and it was great. Then, bam, my hunger came back. Before surgery I always got hangry and it was painful to me to feel hungry. I think that's a big reason I overate. I get hunger pangs now and it's very similar to before, although it is much easier to satisfy, so I'm thankful for that. The biggest thing I hoped to get out of this surgery was not to feel hungry. I'm pretty disappointed that I do. I am following the plan, and I'm fine, but I worry it will get worse and harder to control. Has anyone else experienced this so early on? And if you're further out, is it still fairly easy to satisfy your hunger? I hope I'm even making sense! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

I was allowed to take meds from day one as long as they were either a capsule, or could fit through a medium straw. Anything larger I was either supposed to cut or crush. My meds were all small enough though. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

My plan is low carb, but I can have 15 grams of carbs per meal. I am getting nowhere near this, and I'm almost always under 20. Today was the first day I could try toast, and I had half a piece of whole wheat toast with my scrambled egg for breakfast. I ate about half of that half and it maybe seemed a little heavier in my stomach but I felt fine. I am not a big carb eater, but I don't believe in no carbs forever either. While I'm still in my weight loss phase I will mostly avoid them, but they will be included in my diet long term. I have researched a lot about nutrition over the years and I think all the food groups, in moderation, of course, should be part of a healthy diet. Is it normal or common practice
STLoser replied to bufbills's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I actually met my surgeon first on the same day I did the psych and dietitian, and lab, chest xray, etc. I was self pay, so I don't know if that made any difference. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was told cereal is OK if it's low sugar and high fiber, but I like to drown my cereal in milk so it won't be worth it to me anymore. I never ate cereal that often but I did like it once in a while. Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

OK, so today, I had a scrambled egg for breakfast with a teaspoon of reduced fat cheddar. Lunch was 2 thin slices of deli ham and an ounce of havarti cheese. I only ate a little bit of the ham because I'm just not a lunch meat person. I ate the cheese. I had a Greek yogurt as a snack later. Dinner was Ahi Tuna and a mix of potatoes, squash and carrots. I ate 2 ounces of tuna and a couple bites of carrots and squash and a bite of potatoes. Most days I have either an egg or yogurt for breakfast, a tuna pouch for lunch, and dinner is usually fish and a veggie. I can hardly ever get to the veggies. Tonight was unusual, but I really love squash and carrots and I think I overate and ate too fast because I felt too full. I'm still learning this new anatomy. I am still having trouble getting enough protein since I can't eat much, so I usually have a Fair Life Core protein shake a couple hours after dinner. I will say I'm experiencing what I think is hunger, but it great that it takes so little to satisfy it! I used to get hangry and I'd always eat til I was stuffed. It's a miracle to me to eat so little and be satisfied! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

Yay! Another Loop DS 'er. Your experience sounds so similar to mine. I also threw up the first few days and it was blood. I stayed 3 nights because of this. I also had really crampy back pain on the left side of my back, and I'd be nauseated, and they'd give me nausea meds and it wouldn't help, but if they have me pain meds the nausea got better. I came to find out later that was most likely a kidney stone, because 11 days after surgery that same pain came back and had I had burning when I urinated, and thought it was a Uti, but I went to my primary and my urine was red from blood. I didn't have a Uti. And then I realized it had to be a kidney stone. I should have known. I'm an ER nurse turned stay at home mom and I've seen so many kidney stones, but it didn't even register, because I had just had surgery and figured the pain was from that. But I had an appt with my surgeon Monday and when I told him about that he agreed it had to be a kidney stone. So I think THAT was what caused me to have so much trouble in the hospital and not the surgery itself. Once I was over that recovery has been a breeze! Congratulations on being on the other side now! It gets better every day! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app

2 weeks post op and still not eating
STLoser replied to quinno's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 5 weeks out and I've been wanting to eat the past 2 weeks. I can't eat a whole lot, but I'm enjoying my food again. I really struggled at 2 weeks. I wasn't hungry and I really hated the Premier protein after surgery. I wasn't getting many calories at all. It gets better each week! Sent from my moto g(6) using BariatricPal mobile app
