  1. I know the stool thing works.. There is a thing you can buy on Amazon called the Squatty Potty that's just for that purpose. Having your feet up on a stool is a more natural position for having a bowel movement and that's why it works. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Yeah I'll be 5 months out next week and I haven't had any discomfort since the first month or so as long as I don't eat or drink too fast. It sounds like you might have something else going on. I'd give the surgeon a call. I hope you find answers and relief! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Oh, healing took a couple weeks and it was relatively painless. I had my gallbladder out 6 months before the surgery and that was worse than my wls. For exercise, I just walk.. I do plan to add some other exercise in soon though. Resistance training and stuff. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I have 5 incisions. 3 are tiny and 2 are about an inch long. I. Had a Loop DS. I'll be 5 months out next week and the scars are sort of purplish but barely noticeable to me now. I have lost 102 pounds (about 70 since surgery), and while I don't have a lot of loose skin yet, I imagine I will have a lot since I have about 100 pounds more to lose. I know my lower stomach and upper thighs will be the worst. My arms have always been small for my size and I don't think they'll have much. I don't care..I will consider surgery if any of it is cumbersome or uncomfortable but at 49 years old I am not too worried about it. I would prefer not to have more surgery. I'll gladly take loose skin to be healthy. My liquid diet was 2 weeks and it was clear liquids and 3 protein shakes a day. I was also on the same liquid diet for 2 weeks post op and then a week of full liquids. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. It's probably the safest option with COVID being what it is. I'm a nurse myself (currently sahm) and I can tell you, there were times in the ER where we had to admit patients because there was no room on the floor and the patients get the same care they would on the floor. The PACU won't be any different except how it looks. You'll still have the same care, and personally, I'd rather be there if I were having my surgery now instead of going to a floor. Everyone getting surgery gets a COVID test, so there is a lot less risk for exposure in the PACU. Good luck on your surgery! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    How hunger feels now

I don't know if it's because I had a Loop DS, but my hunger is similar to before. If anything, it's a little more painful. But it seems to be getting less so now that I'm almost 5 months out. It's a burning/gnawing/empty feeling. The big difference now is that even a bite or two of something satisfies it and that is something I wished for my whole life. I used to need to eat so much to feel like I was content and got enough to eat. Now my stomach feels so comfortable with just a little food. That alone makes this surgery worth it for me! July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Hey all! So today I was 293.2 pounds so I am .2 pounds away from 100 pounds lost! I I've lost about 75 of that since surgery. I never thought I'd see myself under 300 pounds again and it feels so good! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Starving

My preop liquid diet was for 2 weeks, and it was definitely rough, but after the first days it got easier. I just kept reminding myself why I was doing and and how important it was for shrinking my liver, which was already enlarged from NASH and hepatic fibrosis. It was tough, but I got through it.. You will too! I agree it's really hard when you have family eating normally. My husband made his and my son's meals during that time, but smelling them was hard. Even pizza, which I don't like (crazy I know lol), smelled amazing! Sometimes I would just go paint my nails or take a hot bath when they were eating so I wouldn't have to be around it. Good luck to you! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I'm not gifting it myself, but I did ask my husband for a new Fitbit. I have a Charge 2 right now but I want one of the fancier smart watch type ones. I'm pretty sure he will get it for me. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Oh, I forgot to add, I did like Gatorade Zero OK when I was newly post op. It didn't seem as sweet as some of the other things. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Besides my black morning coffee, I'm pretty much strictly a water drinker and have been most of my life. I did drink a lot of diet soda back in the late 90s, early 2000s, but I gave that up in 2003. I LOVE sparkling water but I'm not allowed to have it since surgery until a year out and then only occasionally, so I just drink regular water now. I do drink occasional iced or hot unsweet tea also. I don't really like sweet tasting drinks because they don't quench my thirst, and I'm always thirsty! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Poll

I started out at 393. I was 368 on the day of surgery and 343 one month later so that's right at 25, but I was WAY bigger than you. 17 pounds is fantastic the first month for anyone! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Feet

I'm down 95 pounds from my high weight of 393, but I have at least 100 to go, and my feet are definitely smaller. My lowest adult weight was 153 and I wore 8.5 wide in shoes. When I got in the 200s I started wearing a 9 or 10. When I got in the 300s my feet stayed a 9 or 10 but shoes got much harder to fit because my already wide feet got even wider. I weight 296 right now and my shoes all fit so much better. I'm hoping I'll get back to and 8.5 after I get to goal. Unfortunately my feet have always been and will always be wide. [emoji849] Even as an average sized kid my feet were wide. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

From what I've seen, most people lose all their weight in the same time frame, regardless how fast or slow they lose. It's hard not to compare. I started out bigger than most and a lot of people who are bigger lose super fast..for me, I'm losing faster than I ever could on my own, and I feel like as long as the scale keeps going down then I'm happy, but I don't lost as fast as a lot of people my size. I lost fast (for me) the first couple months, which was around 20 pounds a month, but now I'm losing at a rate of about 10 pounds of month. That's still so much faster than I ever could on my own, and I figure if I kept losing 10 pounds a month I could be around 200 pounds in 10 months and I'd be beyond thrilled! I was lucky to lose 5 pounds a month even when I tried my hardest before wls. I think you all are doing an amazing job and should be proud! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I was even petrified of my electric pressure cooker. I made my husband start it first few times. Lol Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. I have an Instant Pot and it's great. Before that I had one I got from Aldi for 15 bucks and it was actually really good too. I especially like it for things like beans, chili, and pulled pork because it decreases cooking time so much. I don't use it a ton because I don't make those things frequently, but it's great for when I do. I like making beans from scratch because then I can control the sodium. Before surgery I made Mexican rice in it all the time and it came out perfect every time, but I'm not eating rice now. The only thing I'd change is I got the 8 quart because it was a great deal at the time, but it's pretty big for our family of three. The 6 quart would be much better. 21. That happened to me to. They called me on July 10 to tell me I was scheduled for July 23rd and I had to start my preop diet July 11th. It was a whirlwind! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I did not have a date, but saw my first surgeon in March. Since I was self pay, it should have been quick to get my surgery date, but then COVID happened and the hospital stopped elective surgeries and procedures. I had been scheduled for my endoscopy March 29th, and it was canceled. I finally got the endoscopy in May, but the hospital let a bunch of people, including my surgeon go because of COVID. So I decided to go to a different surgeon and hospital. I finally got my surgery on July 23rd. Covid was picking up again then and I was sure it would be postponed, but it happened. I feel your frustration. This is such a hard decision to make and when you finally do, you're so ready to get it done. I really hope your hospital resumes elective surgeries asap. I know it's so disappointing to have to wait! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I'm super excited to say that as of yesterday I am under 300 pounds! I'm 299.2. I started at 393 and was 368 on the day of surgery, July 23rd. I never thought I'd be under 300 again!! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hair Loss!

I went through a bad period of hair loss a year or two before my surgery and it had finally stopped and grew back. Now that I'm over 3 (almost 4) months post op, I'm losing it like crazy again. It is definitely frustrating but I just have to keep telling myself it will stop eventually and grow back. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Privacy concerns...?

I live in a rural suburb and had my surgery 45 minutes away from where I live at a rather small hospital in my area. I had no expectation of seeing anyone I know. I'm a nurse who has been a stay at home mom for years now. I knew one of the nurses who took care of me and a respiratory therapist from the last hospital I worked at, and my other respiratory therapist was the mom of a kid in my son's class. Then, the x-ray tech was ANOTHER mom from my son's class. Now, I'm an open book so I don't care who knows, but geez, I couldn't have been able to get to hide it if I tried. I didn't really plan on telling anyone at my son's school though. It's nothing I ever would have expected ar that little hospital lol. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
