Gosh I had mine done back in June... They told me they were making sure my heart wasn't enlarged (because of my weight), and that they didn't see any tumors or anything. Thankfully that was totally normal. I also did tons of blood work (i'm sure more will be done in the 2 weeks prior to my surgery), and the ekg. teri

Ya'll are lucky, My surgeon's office requires a 6 month quit, and does testing on their patients... even those of us that have never smoked because they don't know if we're lying. So it's very fortunate that she only has to quit for 2 weeks. It hinders healing, and also can erode the band, and or junctions where the RNY has been sewn. good luck teri

Congrats. I'm hoping for an august date too. I meet with the team the last time august 6th and should hear very soon after that, as my insurance is medicare, and they don't have to prior approve it. Good luck Teri

Good luck Friday (and on your liquid diet). I'm hoping to be in soon too. Teri

I finally got to see dr Heneghan... i absolutely know I've made the right choices. We totally agreed that the band is correct for me. He's impressed that they'll be discussing me already. I've got 3 whole pounds to loose in the next week. So he's pretty sure that I can do it..> I can do it! It's nice that he has confidence in me. I have the psych appt and the "8 week weigh in" next wednesday. I am doing the sleep study tonight. I'm not sure how well I'll sleep tonight. But i'm so excited. teri

I'm within 4 pounds of my goal weight (preop) and I see the dr again in 8 days... I can do this! I'm so committed... unless they commit me to the psych ward with all the family drama. Anyone have suggestions to loose 4 pounds in 8 days? I'm thinking of doing an intestinal flush... not sure. I have absolutely gotta make that 8 days. good to see activity here. teri

Worries, freak outs, and questions!
terilynn112 replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And truth be told i'm dealing with a lot of the emotions you are. I am taking alli, as I have to loose 13 pounds in 8 weeks. I'm so close now it's not even funny (my 8 weeks are up the 6th of August). If I don't make it my journey will be so much longer. So I'm working overtime on it right now. Alli is a brutal drug if you don't stick to the suggested diet with it. I've had a few "OOPS" moments. But all in all it's helping. Mostly I see a lot of differences in my body shape already... by my scale i've lost 16 pounds. But I'm so afraid to gain it back I'm still taking it. Probably will until just before surgery. Do you have support groups that are local you could go to? They really have helped me a ton! Unfortunately I have to miss this month's general appt. I may try to go to the surgery specific one later in the month. Good luck wiht your decisions.... Teri:regular_smile: -

Can you tell me the name of the test they give you before surgery?

My dr's would if it's real high. But they'd help you get it under control REAL fast. Teri -
Best/Worst things about being Banded?
terilynn112 replied to cobrien78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
but I wanted to share what an inspiration you all are. I'm in the preop weight loss process... and if my scale is correct I've hit it. If my scale is correct, I'm actually 5 pounds under my goal weight. Like one of the previous posters, I get to eat what I want, but not the day before surgery. That is liquid from what I'm told. I'm ok with that. I too gave up pop already. Really the flavored waters are great. I use a lot of the propel Water additive, but like a lot of people, I use a partial package. It's funny, giving up it all, before I found the flavorings, I lost 12 pounds, and unfortunately that was before my official weigh in. Teri -
How did you loose the required weight?
terilynn112 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr's don't do the whole liquids diet. But I have to loose 5% of my weight. I'm nearly there, but that last few pounds are STUCK! How did you do it? teri -
Oh... I guess that's the difference, although I have pcos, I also am considered diabetic type two with co existing insulin resistance. Teri
-
Most companies consider Insulin resistance a co morbidity. Mine does. good luck Teri

Barretts is found by doing an endoscopy. I have a long history of GERD. So that's why I had to have that study, also I snore horribly. So I have to do the sleep study. But it's a laid back sleep study, as I get to do it at home. YIPPEE! Basically put it's where the acid comes back up your esophagus, and eats away the lining, and sets you up for cancer. So it's considered a precancerous condition. It's pretty scary knowing I have 2- 2 yr olds that need me for a long time to come. (that's them in the avatar photo), and an 11 yr old. It's treated with PPI's (pevacid etc). Thanks for the welcome. Teri

I'm teri. I'm relatively new to this site. I'm pre op as well. My signature pretty well tells the store. I'm also in the upper ny area. I'm near cooperstown NY. I'm having Dr Heneghan. I'm almost thru all the pre op testing, which has given me a few surprises. i have barretts esophagus. I'm a single mom with 3 special needs boys. One has cerebral palsy, the other two have hemophilia. I do not. I'm at the point where I'm just ready for the surgery itself to be over, so I can start using my tool. Teri

Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet

That's where I'm going thru... But now it's 5%. I have 13 pounds to loose. I'm almost there. Teri -

The all out iv sedation was easier on me than the barium swallow thing. That left me seriously constipated for a week after and horrible tummy trouble. So my dr's just go to the EGD for me. Unfortunately mine showed some bad stuff (hiatal hernia and barretts esophagus.) Good luck -
What was the straw that broke the camel's back for you?
terilynn112 replied to southerngirl24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Coming from this depressed mom right now, I just wanted to encourage us, that we've made this decision, and have taken at least the first steps to make this weight go away. We're learning how to eat, we're learning how to use this tool (the lapband) and in time we WILL be healthy happy people. :frown: And who knows, Maybe down the road, we'll walk into someone's life and can help them go down the same road Terilynn -
require to lose weight before surgery
terilynn112 replied to tigereyegreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My clinic requires a loss of 5% (13 pounds for me). I'm nearly there. I have lost 11 of those, and if all goes well will have my surgery either the end of August or the beginning of September. I just cut out soda's, Snacks, and cut back on what I do eat. It's amazing how fast it's going. Teri -

terilynn112 replied to southerngirl24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it was that I'm diabetic, and have 3 sons. All have special needs and need me. If I don't do something about my weight, I'm not going to be around for them. One has cerebral palsy, two have hemophilia. Teri -
I'm new to this type of board. My weight has always been my problem. But I'm in need of help, and working thru this. I'm 37 yrs old, mom to 3 boys, all with chronic health issues. One has cerebral palsy, two have hemophilia B. I do not. Anyway, I've seen the PA in the bariatric surgery and am to see the dietitian tomorrow. I'm well on my way to loosing the 5% I have to loose. (12 pounds). Nice to meet you all. Teri
