Stocking up on supplies - what are you buying?
terilynn112 replied to Snowgator's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't bought anything, but I like your ideas. I did however rearrange my kitchen so I have my blender right on the counter. I got it for christmas last year. I've used it twice. LOL I only have to be on liquids for one week, purees for 2 weeks, and then full foods. teri -
New...6 month self challenge/pre diet/PCOS...LONG
terilynn112 replied to IWannaBeSkinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I brought the idea up to my gyn years ago. I walked out feeling much more confused, and back about 6 weeks later with a LOT of pressure on my lower right side (I still remember clearly). The dr said I had a cyst. Gave me birth control pills, and ibuprofen. Finally 3 months later the cyst had popped (that was hell). Two months later I got pregnant, lost it at 11 weeks July 12, 2002. I had to have a D&C because I didn't miscarry on my own, and had an infection from loosing the baby. Then he decided I had pcos. I started a drug metformin, and it was better. Not cured. A year later I quit the medication, and went on my way. I was diagnosed as a full blown diabetic ( a risk of PCOS) in August 2004, and put back on metformin. This time I lost 20 pounds, and got pregnant with twins. Since then I've had a hysterectomy, so I'm without periods now. I still have the fuzzy face syndrome. I also have horrible skin tags. (to be removed next month). I am on byetta, another drug shown to help some pcos symptoms. But I still know when I have a cyst. I still know the pain when they burst. And I still have PCOS, but then I still have all this weight. I'll be soon having a lap band. Just my story. If you're feeling like that may be pcos, what you have... please do talk to your dr. Some insurance companies accept it as a comorbidity. Teri -
my surgeon wants me to have the bypass instead of the lapband
terilynn112 replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't wanna start a debate... but i'm a girl  I don't wanna grow a pair. :sneaky::thumbup: Like everyone else, it's your choice. Please if you feel the band is healthier for you, as many of us have chosen, please tell him you only will do the band. Good luck on your wls journey. teri -
psych and diet eval?????
terilynn112 replied to annecolorgreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my group, it's a pre-requirement. You don't pass the homework, and just absolutely don't get it, you don't get the band. But that said... they break their back trying to teach you to eat properly post op. Teri -
psych and diet eval?????
terilynn112 replied to annecolorgreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the diet eval, was for me a meeting (or two) with a dietician teaching you how to eat post op. I found it VERY helpful. I love my dietician. We're encouraged (in my group) to see the dietician about a month post op... and I look forward to going back. None were terrible. OH my dietician also gives out homework. It was to plan a menu for a day on liquids, pureeds, and then full foods. I had some trouble with that, and called the dietician between visits, and she was so glad I did. Showed incentive. Teri -
My meetings are the third thursday of the month and first tuesday of the month. The thursday meetings are post op lapbands (we're actually required to go to one pre op), and the tuesday meetings are general wls meetings. I love the tuesday meetings, and after school starts I'll enjoy the thursdays I'm sure. Teri

my surgeon wants me to have the bypass instead of the lapband
terilynn112 replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FOrtunately for me, My surgeons took my desires into it. And when they saw I had 3 little boys, one of which is very disabled, they told me flat out I'd ONLY be eligible for the lapband. Thank God that was what I wanted anyway. I'd have kept looking if it meant having to have had the rny with my surgeons. They do about 50% of their surgeries with bands, the other percentage to RNY. What to do While Waiting
terilynn112 replied to sistasassy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the wait too. I've met my criteria, and my insurance doesn't even prior approve this (medicare). Just waiting now. teri -
How did you determine what weight you wanted to eventually be?
terilynn112 replied to PaulaTx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now. My goal is to be a size 12. I started this journey as a size 22, and am currently down to a size 18.... and I'm still pre op. Teri -
I was just plain curious....
-
I talked to my surgeon about this. My surgeon will still do the surgery as long as I weigh less than I did at my initial visit. teri

Officially Denied....Completly Depressed
terilynn112 replied to xgrl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry you've been denied. But like the others have encouraged I'd appeal. And please do talk to the dr's. I'm sure they will help. Teri -
I'm 37 yrs old. Single mom to twins that are 2 and a half, and a 11 yr old, all boys. I'm a sahm, on disability. I'm looking forward to being: healthy, to having energy to deal with my three energetic boys, and not having to buy frumpy looking fat clothes. nice to meet ya'll. teri

My seminar was so packed full with people I didn't get but one question answered. That was something to do with hospital stays. My hospital can do it as outpatient surgery now. Although I believe my insurance requires an overnight stay, and because I have a hiatal hernia, I'll be in over night anyway. teri

welcome to the journey. I'm 37, and started out at 265, my first official appt was at 256. I'm currently down to 242 as of last wednesday. I'm pre op. But should be banded sometime in September. I'm so excited. I'm ready for the tool. The trick is knowing how to use the tool. My dietician helped with teaching my kids to eat properly. They're 11 yrs and twin 2 yr olds... all boys. One of the twins is overweight, and my other two are where they should be size wise. But I learned so much from her. Truth be told, you will get so much information from the person, you probably will not remember it all. They don't mind being called and asked a question. I love my dietician. (leah Usher). She is awesome. MY pcp wasn't real impresssed when I told him I was going this way. But having had all the tests, and all, and finding that he really screwed up, he's eating those words. Now he's in a rush for me to have the band. Teri

Serious problems with the lap band....
terilynn112 replied to Shauna80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's how mine will be placed also. teri -
At my dr's office yes, but they also work with them to get their weight require ments off. Good luck Teri

I made it... I met my 8 week weigh in goal. In fact I did so well I'm a pound under my goal. I had to loose 5% of my weight before the surgery could be scheduled. I've done it! I'm so proud of myself. Teri:thumbup:

Glad your surgery went well. My dr also sends you home with a small fill. I'm glad for that. I need all the help I can get. Good luck with your liquids. I'm hoping to experience that real soon. HI Barbie. Hope you get your PC problems worked out real fast. Teri

I'm with the previous poster.. I'd go, and schedule a consult. I'm at 43 BMI, and I qualify... Oh and I'm 37. teri

Gosh with all the tests they do on us, I wonder how we can hide anything! I mean seriously... I feel like I've been poked in every little spot there is... UGH! teri
