  1. Ah, that's very interesting cat woman, you have such helpful information thank you. I clearly have the problem with the sugar alcohols. I was prescribed them post surgery in the soluble pain killers and a liquid antihistamine (reaction to something causing pain and swelling in my mouth) and I had the most unpleasant shaking, shivers and diarrhoea so managed without painkillers (wasn't in too much pain) and took an antihistamine tablet cut up. Can be tricky keeping away from sweeteners and sugar which is why I haven't had any protein shakes at all, they seem to have one or the other in them. I'm managing protein though with carefully balanced meals and at 8 weeks out all seems well. Good Luck dal101, you'll figure it out.
  2. I had hernia repair and RNY on 19th August and it's been a bit of a roller coaster. My mouth was very sore afterwards and turned out I had oral thrush which I was treated for. Never had that before but was surprised at the amount of pain - sort of burning tongue, roof of mouth and throat. Everything I ate - mostly soups sort of left it hurting more. Went to see doctor after two weeks and she said oral thrush still there - more of same medication prescribed plus antihistamine because seems I've had some sort of allergic reaction. Oh my the antihistamine has made an enormous difference. I was so miserable and hadn't realised how swollen it all was. Now have to find out what I have reacted to - something in theatre. Anyway down 8lbs which I suppose isn't too bad but just want to be thin now that I've done the surgery!

    Had the gastric bypass 8/18/20

Hi, well done and yes, little by little. I had gastric bypass on Wednesday 19th and have also been told purees. Have to say that I'm enjoying it. I've had a bit of fish pie so far. Volumes are tiny and I just wizz it with the hand blender with some bone broth (milk recommended but I can't take it) to a very soft consistency. I plan to add extra fish so that it's mostly fish to keep protein up. Don't know about you but I can't stand anything sweet - makes me nauseous so struggling a bit with the protein. Water ok, I'm sipping all day but always loved my water. I went out for a little walk for the first time yesterday and although I didn't want to go, I did feel better afterwards. I'm just persuading myself to go again today. Not sleeping very well, pain in shoulder from the gas disturbs me but all in all not too bad and it's still early days.
  4. All best wishes. Check in when you're done.😊
  5. Hi, I'm on my laptop and I can't fill in my surgery information. I can see all open fields but won't let me input any data. Any ideas anyone?

Thank you for this post. Really good to hear about your experience, it's helpful to know this is possible. My surgery is on Wednesday so tension building up.
  8. Hi, I'm about the same height and weight as you and also have my Gastric Bypass surgery scheduled for Wednesday. I'm also getting very anxious about it and have been going over and over the reasons why I have taken this decision. I don't know how old you are but I'll be 60 soon and have been losing and regaining the same 60/70 lbs most of my life and I just don't see how I can change that cycle without extra help. I am very active and play sport most days and I don't have any other co-morbidities. One of the main reasons I am having my surgery is to enable me to continue playing sport without doing any further damage to my body. Carrying this extra weight isn't pleasant nor is it good for me and it becomes more and more difficult as I get older. I suspect that I've already damaged my hips and knees playing tennis like this and I want to preserve what I've got left. I researched WLS years ago and 10 years ago I had a gastric band which I didn't get on with at all. I immediately had a de-fill and never had it filled again. It was removed last year. I wish I'd gone for the bypass or sleeve instead of the band to be honest because I feel I've missed out on so much because of this weight not to mention the strain it's put on my body. I don't know if this helps and only you can decide if it's the right thing for you at the moment. I wish you all the best with whatever you decide.

    Food stuck in throat

How are you? I hope you've been seen and are getting the help you need.

How soon do you feel full?

Thank you for that. It is really helpful for those of us waiting for our surgery to see this kind of post. I'm sure I'll find my own version of what you did but I'll steer clear of popcorn. Love hearing about the "not full but not hungry" and I'll be looking out for that sensation to guide me. Go well.😊

Good luck for tomorrow hope all goes well. Let us know how you get on. 😊
  15. Thank you but no, I was dieting. It was the same 100lbs which I swiftly regained the first time and more slowly the second but regain I did! Between and after those diets, I've done many more diets and lost smaller amounts only to regain which is why I am scheduled to have the Gastric Bypass on 19th August. I am very active and sporty - mostly tennis and am finding it more and more difficult to keep up my game with all the extra weight. I still run and chase a ball down but I'm not coming back anytime soon! I ache a lot afterwards and think it's only a matter of time before I do some damage to my body. Enough is enough.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Oh my Double_Me, will you adopt me! I can cook but I don't have the imagination to come up with these delightful combinations! Keep them coming, I'm taking notes😋
  17. Hi, I'd just like to say that I have twice suffered hair loss through losing large amounts of weight - 100lbs - and that was without WLS. It is my understanding that this hair loss happens through massive weight loss and not through surgery. Both times, my hair recovered well and quickly. I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck with your decision.

    Guilt

I don't intend to tell people, mainly because most people don't understand the surgery or the difficulties that some of us face. People who haven't struggled with their weight just don't get it and I have no intention of trying to educate them in the difficulties that brought me to surgery. Stick to your guns and don't feel guilty. You need to do what is right for you. Good luck.

Hey, so sorry you're feeling sad, we all go through a range of feelings to get to our decision but please be kind to yourself. You are just taking the most evidence-based treatment for your physical health condition and that is just what we all do readily with any other health condition. Go well and let us know how you're getting on. Take good care.

    Anyone for August 2020

Hi I'm having my surgery on 19th too and wish you all the best with your surgery. I'm quite calm at the moment and a bit fed up with the pre-op diet but it's not for long hey? I am in London England and having my surgery so that I can continue with the things I love. I play tennis a lot - think I'm addicted - and a bit of golf and as I've got heavier its getting more and more difficult. I have been a yoyo dieter all my life and have had enough of it. I will be 60 in September. I weigh about 250lbs at the moment and am having a gastric bypass (I have reflux so sleeve was ruled out). I decided to go ahead with the surgery in June so I haven't been waiting too long. All the posts help and I look forward to hearing from those who have had their surgery in the last couple of days.
  21. This is a really good question and thanks for the post and for the helpful replies. My Gastric Bypass Surgery is scheduled for 19th August and I have been thinking about this a lot. I know I will need a different approach to my old - eat till can't eat any more!

    Anyone for August 2020

@velise, I'm also having RNY for same reason, heartburn. I'm so relieved to have made my decision after thinking about it for 10 years! But I'm also rather anxious. I don't know anyone who has had the operation so this forum is really helpful.

Hi Velise, good luck with your chicken caesar salad - sounds delicious. I started my pre-op diet today. I've been told 8-900 calories so I'm doing Lighterlife. My surgery 19th. Which surgery are you having?
