one week to go and making up for what I wont fit in.
Liond posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi all, I'm one week from surgery and was not given any strict liquid diet or anything like that to follow. My instructions were not to eat after 7pm the night before. I've been booked in for a bit over a month for this surgery and since the booking I have been eating like there is no tomorrow. I used to watch my consumption but in the last few weeks I have been going nuts and have put on extra weight! Just want to know if the lack of pre-op diet is unusual? And if other people have been on a food free for all prior to surgery? I think I've turned myself of pizza for life! -
Well folks I thought I would quickly post following my banding yesterday and say how great I feel. I'm probably not typical from what the nurses were saying, but I had my surgery early afternoon yesterday and was out this morning from hospital. Everything was really smooth. The worst for me was a little discomfort following the surgery. Feeling like I needed to burp but couldn't. Even my incision marks looks smaller thank I expected. Am really feeling great. I only had to fast from the night before the surgery, so Im not feeling like Im hungry or craving anything at all. I'm on track (so far) to head back to work on Monday. Thanks to many people for their support on here. It's been great to have somewhere like this to come and ask questions etc.. Welcome to Nicole also.. I'm sure you'll get lots of really useful information from this forum. I did.

Hi Anne, I think I will start restricting my intake this week. I sure as hell don't want to wake up with the news that they couldn't do the banding because of the size of my liver... I wouldn't be pleased... It seems like most people get put on pre-op diets. -

Thanks for all the replies. I realise that I will still be able to have most things, just a reduced amount. I guess I'm thinking that I also want to be fairly responsible with my eating habits myself anyway. (hopefully) As for the pre-op diet, I think it must be because I have a lower BMI. It's just under 40, so that must be it.. I should have asked the surgeon! Mind you after putting on 6kgs in 2 weeks, I think that it may well be above that now. I'm just getting excited now. Can't wait to feel like myself again. -
Thanks Smiles, The surgeon said he used to recommend two weeks, but said that people ended up doing whatever they wanted, so was kind of leaving it up to me to decide when I felt ok to go back to work. I guess I am just going to have to see how I go after the surgery.

Hi all, Newbie here! Have finally bitten the bullet and booked in my surgery. July 24. Not too far to wait at all. I've a million questions and keep wondering about how much pain there will be but mostly I just keep thinking of feeling good again and being able to fit into the loads of clothes I have that don't currently fit. I've previously done the non-surgical weight loss, Lost about 56kgs some years back and felt wonderful. However over the last few years it has started to creep back steadily so I am going down the surgery path. One question I have and would love to get some comments on is this. I'm booked in for surgery on a Thursday, I have a positive mind & usually bounce back pretty quickly from illness and surgery. So I am thinking I could have the surgery on a Thursday and am thinking I could return to my desk job on the following Monday. I'm a contractor and don't get paid if I'm not there. So trying to pay for an expensive procedure and minimise the further impact of loss of income. Anyone have any thoughts? Much appreciated... PS: thanks to everyone for the positive vibe on here and inspirational words.. Liond
