  1. Hi Everyone- I have seen several postings of people saying what size band they have...I guess I do not understand this. Do they Dr.'s put different sizes in based on your weight, or how is that determined? Do the smaller sizes allow for less weight loss because they can not be filled as much as the larger ones? I did talk with my Dr. about my port...he only uses the low profile, but I did not know they banded you with different sizes. Is there a benefit to having a certain size over another? As always, thanks so much!
  2. Thanks so much crzytchr, I did not know it was common and possible to lose that much weight with out any restriction. Thanks again- Targa
  3. First I would like to thank everyone who have answered my previous questions...I have received so much helpful information. My surgeon does not do a fill until 1 month post op because he thinks you need to recover and adapt after the surgery, which I understand...my question is how do people lose weight for an entire month with no fill? I have been on the pre-surgery diet for 4 days and am STARVING! My surgery is Thursday, and I am getting really nervous...I have only told one friend, not my family which I feel guilty about. Thanks again for any answers you can provide- Targa
  4. Can anyone please tell me how many grams of protein in reccommended per day on the liquid diet? I was told I could have up to 4 shakes per day, but did not know how much protein I should aim for. Thanks so much! Targa
  5. For those of you who were banded by Dr Jay, does he do his own fills, or does someone else in his office do them? If you request only him, is that possible? Thanks again for your input- Targa
  6. Thanks so much Stephanie! Good points! Targa

    Ask Dr. Schulman...

Shiner Girl- I am suprised you feel you need so much revision surgery since you didi not have all that much weight to lose. I am getting banded in a couple of weks and have about 85 lbs to lose, and was really hoping I wouldnt have to do much more than a breast lift. Have you worked out with weights during your weight loss, and do you feel like that had any effect? I know Dr Schulman says it is part hereditary, part the amout of weight loss and how fast you lose it, and also your age. I also know people who spend alot of time in the sun seem to have saggier skin...just curious on your thoughts on this. Thanks so much- Targa
  10. Hi Isabel-

Thanks for the post...I feel the same way. I have only been overweight about the last 10 years...and I know first hand how overweight people are treated differently.I will be banded at the end of this month, and I would really appreciate some of the info you have learned along the way (like the GOOD liquid vitamins, the best protein powder, what I definitely need to have on hand after the surgery.) I have about 85lbs to lose, and have been a little worried about all of the loose skin issues and additional surgeries some people need after losing that amount of weight...did you have any of those issues?

Thanks so much for the info, and best of wishes-

    Ask Dr. Schulman...

Hi Dr Schulman- I am wondering if the rate at which you lose weight has any impact on the loose skin problem. I have about 85-90lbs to lose...if it is lost at about 10-12 lbs per month will my skin look the same as if it is lost faster? Thanks so much! Targa
