Anyone for August 2020
Topaz_Black replied to MotivatedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today makes it exactly 2 weeks since I was sleeved on August 31st. My post-op visit with my surgeon is tomorrow. I’m not able to progress to puréed until my visit. Weight loss has been decent, -12lbs since surgery morning weigh-in. I gained 4lbs from I-V fluids while in the hospital, so I’m pleased so far; slow and steady is okay by me. I’ve been getting between 50-60 grams of protein all from Unjury pre-made shakes (love these because they are only 8.5 oz for 20 grams of protein) and Clear Premier Protein water. Truth be told, the water is too sweet after surgery so I have to dilute to get it down, but trying to work on the three remaining cases I have. Looking forward to having scrambled eggs for lunch, and puréed egg and chicken salad for dinner tomorrow. I was grossed out at the thought of purée pre-op, but counting the hours until I can eat some gourmet purées tomorrow. My plan allows up to two protein shakes for snacks during the purée stage, so I’m estimating getting 60-80 grams during this stage. Also, remember you can add protein powder to your purées if you need the boost. Good luck everyone! -
Indented incision
Topaz_Black replied to RainbowBrite57's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have this intention, and it’s the only area where I still feel discomfort. Feels like the internal incision is pulling. My two week post op visit is in two days, hopefully it will be gone by then. The pain has gotten better, but I’m down to my last three tramadol. I have tried to manage with Tylenol and it does not eliminate the pain like the tramadol, at least not for me. -
Calcium Supplements that aren’t gross??

Another vote for the Bariatric Advantage Chewy Bites; strawberry is my fav. -
Congratulations! Amazing accomplishment.

Hang in there, but check with your doctor. Based on how you’ve been feeling, they may approve you to,move to the next stage sooner.

Counting the days (5) until I hit the puréed stage. When I first met with the dietician, I frowned at the the thought of purées (texture), lets just say things look a lot different now after weeks of liquids. I can’t wait! I named my sleeve “ Ciara’, she has good vibes, but a diva-tude. -

Loving ‘peachy’. -
Congrats surgery twin. Sounds you had a great experience and you’re looking at a speedy recovery.

It depends on your insurance and Bariatrics centers guidelines. My policy did not require the supervised diet for BMI’s over 40. I started my process on June 23 and surgery is tomorrow, so a little over two months. There are plus’ and minus’ for an accelerated process though. My process included; an interest seminar, consultation with surgeon, psych evaluation, abdominal ultrasound, clearance by my primary care physician, EGD, EKG, blood work, dietician consult, pre-op surgery class, and final pre-op visit with surgeon. Good luck!

Good luck! Wishing you the best. You’ve already proven that you are ready for what lies ahead. By the way, we’re surgery twins. My surgery is at 10am tomorrow.

Good luck! My surgery is Monday, so on one hand I’m hoping the weekend goes quickly, but on the other, hand, not so much as I’m starting to get a bit nervous. I received a surprise call from my surgeon yesterday which was great, and a separate call from one of Bariatric nurses, reviewing final details and pre op prep for the day before and morning of surgery. So I’m ready, just nervous.
-
Glad to hear you’re home and managing the pain. Hopefully it will subside soon. I’m four days pre-op, and trying to prepare myself. I really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about, but I am confused. You say you told them you were 365, but you’re really 375, but your profile says 360. Perhaps you lost weight, but I wouldn’t worry about it. But for the sake of your health please be honest with your doctor and dietician, that’s the only way they can help you. Also, if it makes you feel any better I told my doctor and dietician I was 13 pounds lighter than I was; not because I didn’t want to be truthful, but I couldn’t bring myself to step on my home scale. It had probably been four months since I’d weighed myself, and I went with my last recorded weight. Then one day, about a month ago, I mustered the nerve to step on the scales. Not good, but I was honest and started doing something about it immediately. I lost the 13, and I’m on target to drop another 10 before my surgery in 4 days. Good luck.Try not to worry too much.

Congratulations!

Planning for time off work
Topaz_Black replied to SeattleGirl72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like everyone else, I have a high stress desk job with long days, and lots of direct reports who supervise others. Not to mention constant meetings. I’ve requested three weeks time off. During week two, I have a handful of meetings I’ve committed to (4-5), via Zoom, Teams, or WebEx, as my company has been remote since early/mid March. My original plan was to only take two weeks, but this is a big transition, and I owe it to myself to take time to recover physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Wish I could have taken a full month, but due to ongoing projects, unfortunately that’s not an option. -

Welcome Rollyn. My surgery (gastric sleeve) is August 31st as well. I’m really excited, fingers and toes crossed that nothing goes wrong and causes a postponement. -
Congratulations! Hopefully it won’t take three months to submit your claim and receive approval.

How long between insurance approval and surgery date?
Topaz_Black replied to Bon Bon Jovi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My process was quick, received approval (August 4) from insurance company, two business days after the claim was submitted. The surgeons office contacted me the next day with surgery date options. I’m scheduled for August 31st. -

Congratulations! Glad to hear you’re doing well. -
I’m scheduled for August 31st, also in Maryland, and it’s the same, no visitors allowed. To be honest I don’t mind, safety first. The hospital stay is so short, you’ll be headed back home before you know it.

Another vote for Premier Clear Protein drinks. I’m still in search of a shake that my system likes. So far, I’ve had unfriendly digestive experiences with premier protein shake and boost max,

The Binder is SCREAMING At Me! LOL!
Topaz_Black replied to LAJ23's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
First, let’s be clear, not everyone is here because they have an addiction to food. Obesity is caused by several different factors, one of which you mentioned but let me remind you of the others; genetics, age, race, endocrine situation, neurological disorders, stress, lack of activity, and calorie intake with respect to activity due to short or long-term lack of mobility. The binder, like the surgery is a tool designed to help us, not offend. I think the dietician’s do a hell of a job trying to present the information in a way thats beneficial for everyone and perhaps no specific for each individual. That’s where you come in. I too only had one appointment with my dietician, but I’ve exchanged emails, and she urges me to continue to reach out if I have any questions or need clarification or additional recommendation. Your situation may qualify for certain accommodations, and less restrictions, but instead of complaining express your concerns to the people that will be helping you in your journey, and know your unique health situation. Also, give your Bariatrics center the feedback on the perceived tone of nutrition information in your binder. Like everything else in the world, change for the better comes after you are able to look at things through a different lens. Wishing you the best. -
