I'm from St. Augustine and had RNY at Flagler last Sept. 2020.
-
I had surgery at the end of September and was discharged the same day (they said due to Covid). I DO NOT recommend this! I wished I could have stayed 1 night and not had to deal with the movements of in/out of the car, up/down the stairs, etc. I had to be back at the hospital the following morning for a barium swallow test - which would have been much easier had I just been allowed to stay IN the hospital. I later learned that I was only 1 of 2 RNY surgeries preformed at that hospital in which the patient was discharged on the same day ... the hospital now mandates a minimum of one night stay. If you have the option to stay for one night, do it.

Is a 7 month stall a thing?

That seems to be how I've been losing weight too ... I'll lose 5-6lbs within a week and then NOTHING for 1-2 weeks and then drop another pound here and there. But I've never gone a whole month and lost nothing ... I'm just wondering if this is a normal time in the process to be stalled and if so, how long did it last? -
Is a 7 month stall a thing?

I am SO GLAD I'm not the only one in this boat! It's SO FRUSTRATING! I've upped my calories, reduced my calories, added in more exercise, then reduced it ... all in hopes of "shocking my system" but NOTHING is working! I know stalls happen ... but I didn't think a month long stall would happen this early in the process. Hopefully someone else has some words of advice for us on how to break through! I actually just made an appointment with a new nutritionist, separate from my surgeon's office, hoping that they will have some non-biased advice on what to do. Stay tuned ... -

Hi there! I'm 7.5 months post op from RNY. Since having surgery on Sept. 28, I've lost 85lbs ... averaging about 10lbs per month (with the exception of the first month or two when I lost 15-20). ANYWAY, I haven't lost a single pound in over a month! While I haven't gained any, it's still REALLY frustrating to also not be losing this early in the process. I eat anywhere from 850-1200 calories a day. Average 70-100oz of water. Keep my protein between 70-95. Walk 2-4 miles. Peloton 2-3 days a week for 30 mins. I also track every. single. bite. using MFP. I've had a couple stalls here and there, usually lasting 1-2 weeks ... but never a months long! Has anyone experienced this long of a stall this early on in their journey? How long did the stall last? Does anyone have any suggestions for breaking through a long stall? Thanks!

Anyone for September 2020?
wakeupmaggie replied to vsg_britt_091420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 9/28 and am 61 lbs down since surgery day! I've been in a bit of a stall these past 3 weeks (only losing 2 lbs) ... I think my body is just now catching up with everything and trying to figure things out! I cannot eat chicken, turkey, lunch meat, or salmon without immediately puking (I'm working with my nutritionist to try and figure out what's going on there). Red meat, scallops, and white fish are about the only significant protein sources I'm keeping down on a regular basis. I'm hoping I can break this stall sooner or later - it was SO AWESOME to be on a roll with losing weight for so long! I was averaging 600-800 calories a day ... but tis week I've been HUNGRY and getting in more like 1000-1100 (high protien/low carbs). I'm averaging 10k steps a day and doing a 30 min spin class once a day ... so the activity is there. I just need to continue trusting the process! Never in a million years did I think I'd be 61 lbs down in 3.5 months! Feelin good! -
I had RNY on 9/28 and my surgery was outpatient. I’m young-ish and relatively low-risk. Surgery was at 10:30am and I was home at 6pm. If I had to do it all over again, I’d push a lot harder to stay in the hospital at least one night - I was in A LOT more pain post surgery than I anticipated. I had a swallow study and a follow up with the doctor the next morning at 8:30am back at the hospital. I found out a couple weeks later that I was one of the only patients they did as outpatient (basically a test) and that since then they started requiring 1-2 night stays post surgery... which I do feel is/was totally necessary!

I had to wait 30 days after RNY but then I was cleared for coffee! ... and with a 13 month old + working full time ... it couldn't come soon enough! Some days I mix my coffee with 1/2 with a protein shake and other days I just mix with almond milk creamer. Either way, all is right with the world again now that I'm properly caffeinated!

I had my surgery on the 28th too! I hope yours went well and that you're feeling better!

This exact thing happened to me! I'm 2 weeks post-op and the one and only time I've experienced dumping was from a Premier Protein Ready-Made Vanilla Shake! I have no idea why, because I drank them everyday leading up to surgery and even the days after without any issue ...

1 week post surgery and I haven’t lost any weight?
wakeupmaggie posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had surgery last Monday and have followed the post surgical diet to the T ... I’ve also been walking everyday, keeping up with my 12 month old baby, and working full time ... and I’ve lost NO weight. It’s beyond frustrating to see the scale not budge! -
Hi there - I'm having bypass on 9/28 and my doctor's office won't tell me how long I should expect to stay in the hospital. They said I could be discharged the same day or maybe 1 night. I'm not sure if they are trying to discharge patients same day to get them out of the hospital quicker because of Covid or if no overnight stay is a reasonable expectation?

I finished all my pre-rec appointments last Friday! On Monday I was notified that everything was submitted to insurance and Thursday (yesterday) I found I was approved and got assigned an official surgery date: 9/28! They offered a much earlier surgery date but I'm going to be out of town. The longest wait has officially started ....!
