Recent RNY - How ya doing?
allison12541 replied to Corrine2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine on the 13th, I mean it hurt but u know what ever, I threw up a lot in the hospital, ended up ok staying an extra night. So far I have lost 28 pounds now, that’s after having to lose the water weight that the IV put on. Protein shakes taste like crap. I have not had a lot of hair loss... yet. My doctor wants me to take B12 shots but no cap I can’t stab my self in the leg with that long ass needle. Like just NO. My biggest problem is remembering to eat, I’m never hungry. My exercise is my shopping. Idk I’m probably the worst person to give advice on anything, the surgery was worth it, and I would do it again. -

Thursday will be two weeks after my August Surgery. I am feeling a lot better, apparently I am the exact opposite of everyone else with surgery. I have a ton of energy, I mean we are talking hyper active child type of energy, no hair loss, I am cold all the time, and I live in Florida. I am down almost 20 pounds so far. My surgeon keeps telling me I have to slow down, because I just had surgery, but hell I have had Csections so this is not my first rodeo. -

I finally got home yesterday. I feel very sore like a did an external work out. My ribs are killing me. I am able to keep pretty much everything down, but I don’t have a sense of fullness so I’m scared that I will eat or drink too much. Other then that I am doing great -

I had my surgery less then 24 hours ago, intact I am writing this in the hospital, after surgery the pain is unbearable, I am dry heaving everything with a little bit of throw up. Walking to move the air out is unbearable, I know it’s temporary but this is the worst pain I have ever been in, and I have had 4 C-sections. My doctors are great, and did remind me that I will be going home with hella water retention. So weight loss may not show right away. Currently I am staying strong though. -

Counting down the hours till surgery. Passing the time by watching TikTok and just stuck my phone in my mouth. Sooo that’s where I’m at in my life lmao. -

Well I am never overly excited about any surgery. Lol but better still concerned that during my liver shrinking diet I never lost any weight, and I followed my diet. No one else seems to concerned, I was told everything from water retention to my body could have gone into starvation mode. Idk wish I could tell what my liver is doing lol -

Mine is still scheduled for tomorrow morning, but hey it’s Florida, they probably would not cancel if a cat 5 was coming through. -

This is not a cure all surgery; it’s a tool to help with weight loss. Also you can have alcohol just not at first. My doctor told me when I eventually am able to drink I will not need to drink as much. So saving money. Yea the no straw thing, that’s a hard one I get it, but hey save the turtles. My advice, if you can’t jump in 💯 then I would hold off, because clearly if you were ready it would be a no brainer. Sorry to be blunt, but I would want the same thing told to me, if I was in your shoes. -

Have I ruined my pre-op diet irrevocably?
allison12541 replied to MoominMan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How have you been doing on your liver shrinking diet since you posted? I good way to think about it is remove the diet word, and I forgot where I heard this but instead of saying “I can’t have (insert food)” say “I don’t eat (insert food)” it helps to look at this as a life style change. -
Nausea from protein shakes/powder

I really like the nectar protein drinks. When I told my doctor I was upswing that brand he was thrilled. Apparently his office used to use it with great results. If you like chocolate the truffle one is amazing, it does not taste like truffles to me just chocolate but better then the other drinks I tried. Boost is what my husband uses he does weight lifting but they are really heavy and I have not even had surgery yet. Hope you find something that works for you. -

Wow my insurance required very little, and only one dietitian appointment, all my surgeon wanted was my cardiologist to sign off, because I have pregnancy induced heart failure. My insurance is pretty cool with surgeries, I have Humana. My surgery is on 08/13 and only took about two months. Would of been sooner but I had a blighted Ovium so I popped on the pregnancy test for my endoscopy, and had to get a sonogram to prove I was not pregnant. No one ever listens to me lol. -

Give it a couple days those protein shakes will make you feel full. I called my doctor today because I wasn’t losing weight during the liver shrinking diet and he said don’t worry about, most lose a few pounds, but some don’t. He will still do the surgery regardless. -

I guess Florida is different or where I am have very low cases because I’m not required to get tested, but I mean this is also Florida lol -
