ATTN scale watchers in Bandster Hell!!
karibensea replied to katwmn63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also gained back a couple of the pounds I lost once I got on mushies. Those are now gone and I am on soft foods for the moment. Banded on 7-9-09 I feel really good about the poundage that has been lost considering I have not seen the scale tip for about 20 yrs! This excites me so much. My food intake is just about 1000 calories a day and I mix things up and I use a lot of different spices. It is a very hard process considering I had an addiction to food and this I am trying to over come. Not so easy but this site is a great help. I also went last night to a support group. Very interesting indeed and helpful for sure. Just a bit of advice to all of you out there, STOP getting on that scale every day...I have never been a big fan of them in the first place and it is right in the bathroom in front of the door, sorta speak and I do NOT get on it ever day. I physically feel like I am getting thinner and that like I said is a good feeling. We are winning and we will continue to win this fight, just be strong, diligent, and most of all patient! Big hugs to all of us we deserve it! -
I was banded on 7/9 and I had my follow up dr appt last friday. I am actually down 20 since I began this whole process back in Nov 08 so I am by all accounts doing really well. I feel good, and the doctor's nurse says I have to have another office visit before the doc will do a fill. Now this would be ok with me except I had accepted a once in a lifetime job offer and being out of work at the moment I do not wish to mess this up. One of the stipulations of the acceptance of the job was that I not miss any time once the 12 week training begins. Holy smokes what am I going to do. If I can not meet the requirement then I lose the job oppertunity. I am so scared about this right now it is making me sick. Has anyone ever had this issue? The doc has agreed to fill me before his surgery rounds at the hospital under xray so I dont have to miss my new job I only hope he will let this other visit pass as he himself said I was doing really well. :-(

The very best protein powder I ever tasted.
karibensea posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did try way to many of these things and I found that the best one was from GNC 100% whey Protein powder. I use it with skim milk as it really does not taste the same or mix the same with Water. Oh and they mix really frothy if you do it in a blender or I use my majic bullet which takes like 2 seconds to mix. I also purchased an emersion hand held blender for the food blending. Great tools make my life easier. This comes in various flavors and the best is chocolate and then the banana Cream. vanilla is good because you can add flavored extracts to it, adds a different flavor without calories. Right now GNC has it on sale for like $10.99 a bag and they last a while. Great source of protein and not too bad on the calorie count either. Just thought I would pass this along -

5 days post op and sharp pain on L when I breathe in
karibensea replied to Wyndy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This seems to be a common thing with me and many of my friends some doctors tie the port to the muscle under the rib cage which caused the sharp pain when breathing and healing. I would call the doctor if you feel it gets worse. However I can say I know at least 4 others who also had the same issue. Just seems to be a common thing. I would ck with the doc just make sure and ease your mind. -

Feels like there is a rock in my chest
karibensea replied to carlagovier's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I had the same feeling and I have been banded almost 2wks. It would seem that the port is attached to muscles which are attached to my rib cage per the doc. So as they heal there seems to be presure. Also try to think of it like this there were 5 pieces of equipment in your abdomen area and they were poking and proding around in there. I would talk to your doctor for sure if it persist or gets worse. But for me I think it was all part of the healing process. -
Hello there yes I had my surgery on the 9th as well and I am doing great! I do wish I had more restriction an I had the surgery done at De Peres hospital by Dr Minkin.

What kind of vitamins do you take?
karibensea replied to StarsZie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well my doc has a nutrition lady that works with him and she gave us some samples and I have found this one called fusion which was created by bariatric patients and docs for those of us who need to be able to chew and not swallow a pill. You can ck the products out on Bariatric Fusion | Home they have several different supplies there. However before you spend any money on any of these things you should ask the nutruiton person working with your doctor if they can get you some samples. I tried several before I decided on these because they actually have the b12, calcium etc. And I am not about taking more things then I need to if you know what I mean. Again ask your doc or the nurtrition person who is working with the doc closely so that you are ensured success. Good luck in your choice. The mixed berry is best! M -

Glad to hear your doing well. Take time to recoup so kicking back with the feet up is a good thing. Enjoy so quiet time as well. Welcome to the other side! M -
WOW I was having I think some kind of out of body experience today with the dehydration. I mean really I know what I wanted to do and say but my body was just not in sync at all. I drank a 32 oz of the tasty stuff and I do feel so much better. I tell you what that floaty, dizzy feeling is NOT a good one so every one please remember to stay hydrated. I for one am glad that feeling has taken a hike!

I Hate Protein Shakes!
karibensea replied to gatorgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there I found that the GNC brand of 100% Whey Protein is the best I ever tasted. It is powder form and mixes really well with skim milk, with water not so good but milk is good. It comes in many flavors too and the choc, banana cream are two of the best. Try them you will be surprised. -
Did anyone else have a problem with phlem?
karibensea replied to karibensea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Goalwatcher! Hey how are you feeling today on day 4 post op? I too had my band placed on Thursday. Wow that was a wild 24hrs after the fact. The biggest thing was getting NO rest at all. It would seem that I woke up today in very little pain even found myself laying in bed on my side/tummy just as normal. Still can not move quickly, can not bend, or do anything crazy strenuious (spelling). Well good luck on the journey that lay ahead and keep in touch! Have a great monday and thanks for the input on the phlem issues. -

Tips on what to expect after surgery
karibensea posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery done on 7/9/09 and this is one thing to expect. When you come out of the operation you will be very sore and very bloated. You will also be given a morphine (spelling) drip for pain. Here is what can happen since most of you will not have any solid food in you for at least 48hr beaware that the drip will make you sick and you will dry heave this is very painful and could mess with the band. So try to avoid it if you can. Morphine is a drug that does not go well with a completely empty stomach. Try something different for the pain. There will be pain but to be honest it is not as much as I had thought. I really only had bad gas in my abs and this is most uncomfy the walking does help. Good luck to you all and I will see you on the other side very soon. -
Thanks for the recipes I will for sure try them. So how are you doing? Did you have your band done yet? You were a bit later than I correct? I had my band put in on this past Thurs so far so good.

karibensea posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. This has been such a long process just to get to this point. It took just 1 week for my BCBS to get me an approval letter. And now I wait just a bit longer. I will be doing a 3 day liquid diet prior to the surgery not really looking forward to this. I really just can not wait I am so excited! Michele
