Hello there
Long time no email and I am so sorry about this. Life in bandster hell has been anything but pleasent. Back on Aug 3 I started a new job with AT&T and simply can not get off work to go get a fill so I have to wait till November. I am struggleing for sure. I am still losing weight not much but just shy of 30 lbs. I am hoping that the very slow weight loss will keep me from having issues with all the excess skin I have seen on some in my support group. For all accounts the new job is going well and really if I think about it all it really does keep me on track because there is not a lot of time to eat between meals. We can eat in class however I need my hands to do the work so eating is not all that easy. lol
See the next note for continued story, this thing only hold 1000 words

Slipped band, what does it feel like.
karibensea posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone I would like to know what it feels like to have a slipped band. I do not have any excessive heartburn, burping, and I have never had an issue with food backing up or anything like that. I just have this weird kind of feeling right in the center of my chest. It is not hard to breathe or anything like that either. You know sometimes when you drink something and it feels as if it went down the wrong way and that hurt you feel, that is what it kind of feels like. Maybe I am being a bit paranoid but I have been concerned about this. Since my surgery 7/9/09 I have had no issues at all and have lost 27lbs with little restriction only had one fill. The next fill will not be till sometime in Nov as I simply can not take off work to get one done. Just some input would be helpful and thanks in advance -
Sharp pains in the rib area??
karibensea replied to STLMom2006's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not an expert however this is the way it came down for me too. Huge pain in that side of my rib cage and come to find out I have my port stitched to the muscle in that area so it was a healing issue. Yes the port is attached to my ribs sort of speak. Always ck with your doctor in situations like this but I would guess this too shall pass. :-) -
I was banded on 7/9/09 and have already had 1 fill. Now on an average how long between meals is normal just about 4wks out with 1 fill already. I have a new job that has a no tolerace policy for being absent so I have put off my next fill until NOV as it will be then that I have a day off during the week. Right now I can go about 4 hrs without my tummy telling me I am hungry, how does that sound? At the office I seemed to have managed to get my meals in about the same time daily. I would very much appreciate any input you might have on the time frame in which you can go between meals. Thanks Michele

Loose skin after surgery
karibensea replied to jenrobbar951's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not an expert here but I have learned the hard way on this topic. I do believe that Milk will help with your skin and if you do not lose weight super fast this will also help a lot along with exercise once you are able. There is something in Milk that helps with the elasticity of the strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation (obesity) Do remember to speak to the doctor before you do any kind of exercise as to not hurt your recovery. This is all I know... Michele -
Found a real good soup to et me through
karibensea replied to Princess losealot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yea so that split pea is good huh? I love soup and I am just 4 weeks out and still love my soup. I will have to try it. Thanks so much. Michele -
pain after 6 weeks?
karibensea replied to LOSTINFRANCE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is my understanding that some doctors actually attach the port to the muscle in the rib area. When it begins to heal it can cause , presure, a pulling feeling and pain. I would for sure ask the doctor about it but for me it was just the area around that port healing. Michele -

So how can we make this soup? Would love to know . Thanks Michele -
Hello there everyone. I am in need of some quick healthy edible Breakfast foods. I have just started my new job and I am in training so eating in the class room is allowed. I get up early very early but it just seems that I can not get my one cup of coffee in and then have time to eat at home before I leave. I am trying to eat at the same times daily and since I have to wait 3 full months for my next fill (my choice) because my job has a NO TOLERACE for being absent and I simply can not miss work. I am doing really well down 25lb and I have had 1 fill already. So I am just looking for input on some fast yummy good for me food that I can eat in the mornings. Thanks everyone and I look forward to your yummy ideas. Michele

when can I eat spicey mexican and chinese food?
karibensea replied to Tranquility's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 2wks post op and I actually got a shrimp and crab enchilada (spelling) and ask the manager to please make it without the tortilla and then to please put it all in the blender and OMG it was so good I had enough food for a whole weeks lunches.. It was really great. I would say anything soft you can eat and remember ask them to blend it and take tiny bites.. __________________ Now I am just about 4wks out and still have not had chips, tortillas just a good thing to stay way from... I do hope this helps a bit. Michele -

Hello everyone, I do hope this finds all of you doing well today. I just wanted to touch base on a topic that seems to bother a lot of folks on this forum. This comment is only a personal observation. "THE SCALE" Stay off of it! There are so many of you who seem to jump on this evil thing every single day, wrong my friends. I personally never even owned a scale till the later part of last yr. The scale seems to give a very bad taste to some who do not see fast results so if you do not see what you want on this thing has to show you then "WHY" do you feel the need to step on it each and every day? This is crazy to put yourself in a self inflicted, self induced state of depression and dispare. Please just stay off the darn thing each and every day. When you are only weeks post op it seems it is bad enough that some of you seem to feel the need to start heavy duty exercise programs, some who want to start eating bad foods again just in smaller portions and such. Rest, take it easy and yes let your bodies heal. This was a major surgery everyone. Just because it was done in a lyproscopic (spelling) fashion it was still a major deal. You still had to have knock me out juice flowing through your bodies, some had overnight stays, some had really bad pain, etc. This is a journey that we all chose to take and together we will all get through it. We are here to support and encourage each other. I really would love to see those of you (and you know who you are) who are obsessed with that scale just be happy that this journey has begun and take it one day at a time. This really is the beginning of something wonderful and just think of all the friends you have made here who share the same happiness and long term goal that you do. Sharing and friendship is a wonderful thing. I will continue to encourage each and every one of you to bigger and better things. And if I lived close to all of you I would get in my car and come get those scales and toss them. We will beat this and we will overcome some of the intermost feelings we are all going to go through. You noticed I said we right? We did not get overweight over night folks and we are not going to get skinny overnight either. Gosh I do know I would love it if we could. The reality of this process is this will take time and lots of it. Be paient, be kind to your bodies and your body will be kind back in spades. Do not avoid it totally as it is a tool, but just do not be obsessed about it and be willing to accept what it says. It can work to your benifit for sure in time and do not get on it every single day. Here is hopeing that all of you have an awesome weekend.

What do you wish someone told you ?
karibensea replied to rdasroo2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well since you will have NO food in your tummy be very careful of the drugs they give you by drip for the pain. They can and most likely will make you sick. I dry heaved and it was most painful. Also the pain in the shoulders is for real but no one told me that it would be really in your back right under the shoulder blades this too was very painful however ice packs and walking really did the trick of pain free in about 2 days. Also there is the issue of being dizzy and lightheaded from lack of food intake...be very careful to get your Protein in this will help along with as much Water that you can drink. -
Yea Kat as we have discussed many times before you are not even a full 3 wks post op. You need to let your body heal. And if I lived closer I would come and take that scale to the trash! You need to worry more about healing then the weight loss at this point. You know stress is no good for anything much less weight loss..Ditch the scale lady as you can see I am not the only one who agrees with this statement. Love ya M

feeling kind of weird--help if you can please
karibensea posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It would seem that I have post nasal drip and this has caused my throat to be sore. Also it has caused a feeling in my upper right side of my chest as if there is a huge lump in my throat and I can not get it out. Then if and when I burp it kind of goes away. I have been doing really well with my eating very tiny amounts and chewing well. And really NOT eating things that are not on my list to eat since I am still in the soft food stage of this whole process. It has been 3 weeks since banded and I really am just hoping this has a lot to do with my alergies and the post nasal drip. Just a bit nervous... -
Banded yesterday and the gas...
karibensea replied to Little2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there congrats on the band. I had the bad gas in the back right under my shoulder blades and I used the heating pad and it worked well for me. Also walk, walk, walk it really does help.. -
Help! Banded yesterday(7/28) & in pain!
karibensea replied to AmyNsaint's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have much pain except in my back under my shoulder blades and that heating pad became my life saver. Also if you get up and move around as much as you can this will help too. The gas that builds up I think puts pressure on other parts of your insides and that is what makes some of us experience more pain then others. Good luck and remember call the doc if it does not get any better... -
I FINALLY cracked my 8 week plateau..YES 8 weeks!!!
karibensea replied to coloradobanding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome news thanks for sharing! Keep up the good work.. By the way are you doing anything out of the norm that you might share with those who do get stuck! Have you also had a fill? -

By that time I was two weeks on liquids and I was done with all that. So just hang in there this too shall pass.. Good luck on your journey!

Hello there
I am just cking in with you to see how your doing? Is all going well for you. As far as me well I do feel restriction with out a fill meaning I do feel the fullness bug with only eating maybe 1/4 of what I had been eating and I am sure never going over 900 cals aday. Since the surgery I have dropped 16 lbs however I can not see this but can feel it in certian areas of my body.
So get back to me when you can and I hope things are good for you.

Oh my gosh I am down 22lbs...I just can't believe it. I even cheated with a couple bits of Ice Cream. I do not recommend this because for some reason the Ice Cream made my tummy act weird.

What is your favorite high protein drink?
karibensea replied to Erin 6-9-2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have one powder that I really think mixes extremely well with skim milk. This would be the 110% whey Protein powder from GNC. It comes in a red pouch like bag and the best flavors are banana Cream-taste like pie, chocolate and Vanila.. Totally good stuff and they run 22-26 gms of protein! -
What are your favorite mushies
karibensea replied to <3 Phoebe <3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My homemade mashed sweet potatos! They are even great cold they acutally taste like pumpkin pie filling! Just peal, cook and mash..add pinch of nutmeg, a bit of all spice, and some cinn. very simple and delish!
