Banded on 5th June with Hosptial Group @ Bromsgrove
debbie1705 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi i am new on here, and so glad i found this site, its brillant for advice etc. I had my band fitted 3 days ago with the Hospital group @ Bromsgrove Hospital Surgeon was Martin Richardson. I am ok actually yesterday i had pain in my left shoulder, but today it has somewhat eased. I have read all the negative comments about the hospital group on here and they did actually make me think "WHAT HAVE I DONE" but i must say i found them not too bad. I do see what people say about personnel care because it is like a bit of a production line, and the only negative i do have to say is i dont like they way they prepare you for surgery. You have to actually walk into the theatre before they put you to sleep...! (That i think could really freak some people out) but the nurses etc afterwards was fantastic and there is a nurse in particular called Elaine Downey that really did know her stuff... Having say that i have not got a clue about how i go about getting my first fill etc and hopefully speak to the Hospital Group on Monday for information. (Maybe i might think differently after that phone call). I did only go for the £4950 package as thought that for an extra 2 and half grand the support afterwards was just not worth it. I was quite happy to pay for fills etc afterwards. Has anyone else got any experiences with the surgeon, or bromsgrove hospital or maybe you were in the same day as me and we just didnt manage to swap numbers.... Hope you here from all you fellow bandsters out there...XXXXX Debbie -
Yes good luck, let us know how you get on. Debbie x

Hi Guys As Much as i love this site and have got loads of useful information, the above site is especially designed for people in the UK and is Brilliant, with lots of nice people giving advice such as local fills, etc..... Check it out Debbie xxxx
-
LOL yeh was very weird, was just thinking how you were doing as well....... Yes log on to the other site because you will find alot of people in the same boat its quite liberating to see that we are all HUNGRY......lol.... Georgina, have you got any ideas where you are gonna go for your next fill....??? How did you find the hospital in orpington...??
-
Hey Georgina.....XXX So good to here from you.... Yeh i tend to spend most of my time on the above site, its alot more useful. I am doing alright, my first fill went ok had great restriction the first week, but like you now not got much although eating alot less and do get full quite quickly but unfortuntatly i'm hungry quite quickly too. Like you i am gonna go for another fill in september, go to las vegas next week so hoping the band will be ok on the 10 hour flight...! I've lost about 16lb but i think that is my doing as i've been eating healthy and not the band. I know it can take some time to get the right restriction but i am feeling a bit frustrated cause i want to weight to start moving... Anyway, try catch me on the other site (user same as this one). Or i'll catch up with you on this site, pls stay in touch. Debbie x

Hi Guys I just come back from having my first fill (I only had to wait 9 weeks..!) anyway, it went very well. I already had 3cc in my 10cc band, so the Dr put another 2.5cc in, so now i am at 5.5cc hopefully i will get some restriction. I am gonna give it a couple of week and if there is hardly any restriction i am going to get another fill ASAP.... Debbie

Hi Lisa Hope you are well....X Debbie

Oh my heart goes out with you Travelman, hope everything turns out ok...X D...X

Hi All Good Luck to you all waiting surgery, you will be fine. Remember this is a start of a great journey Lots Of Love Debbie x
-
Hi Lisa You will know after having the surgery when you are restricted and when you are not. Its a funny feelin, like a egg timer, you feel it go down then the stuck type feelin, before it goes through to the bottom half of the stomach. Getting the fill done did not hurt at all, you dont feel a thing whilst getting the saline put in. The needle itself isnt nothin, u dont have to look if you hate needles and u only feel a little scratch. Hope it helps Debbie x
-
Hi Ann Poor u....! I had my first fill today and was dreadin it but i didnt find it that bad, i must say i am not really afraid of needles tho as i give blood regularly and used to them by now... ;o) How much restriction have you got...?, i am at 5.5cc in a 10cc band, so am hoping for a little more restriction than before. Hope everything goes ok for you, reference the port i am sure it wont be hardly as bad as the op itself. Goodluck Debbie

Hi Sallieanne I got a free fill whilst having my xray.. This is only because i have had to wait so long for my xray appointment to come through and i completely kicked off so they are giving me a free fill as way of compensation. Debbie.. -
Kevin this is a great achievement i am so pleased for you... Do you think you have done this mostly through diet or through the band itself. I cant wait to get to the stage of feelin restricted... Debbie

Morning Fellow Bandsters I was wondering if anyone had any information on travelling with band fills. I am due to have my first band fill on the 9th of August, but due to go to america on the 2nd September, the flight is for 10 hours. I so want my fill as seriously hungry now, and dont want to wait after my holiday. Any advise would be appreicated. Debbie x

Hi Sallieanne. I am due to have my xray and first fill next Saturday. I had my op done on June the 5th tho, so 9 weeks after my op i am finally having my xray and fill, i must say i aint to impressed on how long i have waited, i can feel i have no restriction so hopefully the first fill with at least give me some. I had Mr Richardson too in Bromsgrove, was fitted with a 10cc band. Did they say yesterday how long you need to wait for your first fill then and where do u need to go to get it done..? Debbie x -

-
Hi Georgina
Hope you dont mind me emailling you. How are you doing...?
I am having a nightmare with THG/WGA, as you know i am having my fill on the 9th Aug, but have received no paperwork at all on where i need to go or anything, despite ringing them twice, and to top it all today i had a phone call to say i had an appointment with Mr Richardson on the 22nd July (news to me) and that it would have to be cancelled as the discharge appointment cannot happen before the fill, i just feel like crying at the minute.
Have you had any paperwork through at all....?

Hi Sallieanne What you are feeling is all normal, i had bad wind and a pain in my left shoulder for a few days, just keep taking pain killers every 4 hours cause this will really help. Give it a week and you will feel loads better. Welcome to band life Debbie
