Help...How much protein should we be eating a day? I just had my second fill and am told "high protein" but forgot to ask how much? I really need advice on the most tasty protein drinks and protein bars. How many grams are considered enough for protein drinks and bars. Thanks in advance.:confused::frown: Lin DFW area

Question for Self-payers of Lap Band
lin2 replied to Sooverit!'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine was $15,000 but I too chose a facility very close - fill center is on an adjacent property to my work. I really liked my surgeon but once fills are started I go to a surgery center and am filled by a nurse practicioner who does fills all day so I feel comfortable with her expertise. My cost also includes 1 year of fills and support groups etc. I could have gone to Dallas, an hour away, for $9999 but having had fills I now know distance could have been really problematic. The cost of initial surgery is only part of it-i would opt for the most convenient. Hope this helps a little. -
Who was your surgeon? I am also in the DFW area and was banded in July but have only lost 2 pounds because I am still hungary and not eating right. If you were doing everything right and still had that happen to you, it is scary to think about those of us who can't seem to follow plan. What a horror story - I am so sorry for you.

Can anyone help me - I am looking for reasonalbe self-pay surgery in the DFW area - costs for self-pay seem to vary alot.:tongue2:

Does anyone have pain-not cramping or abdominal pain but pain and tenderness when I move or bend over a certain way. Called the doc and the nurse said it wasn't a stretched pouch - no other stomach-typeproblems such as reflux. Pain started right be fore my first fill and then got worse - around the largest scar - is that the port?? Feels like a pulling, stabbing pain when I move wrong. Anyone else have anything similar????

What is a choleystechomy? (sp)

Thanks to all for the reassurance - I still can eat too much but I am hopping that I will feel more restriction and less cravings as they tell you after the next fill or too. It does feel as though it is a pulling, pain around the port area so is probably of no real consequence, although it is pretty painful at times.

I was banded in July and had a hernia repair. I am delighted - no more heartburn meds.....

I had surgery in July and I still have an area that is VERY painful to touch or if I move in a certain way. It is right under the breast area so could be port or pouch related. I am scared to death that I may have stretched the pouch. I feel fine otherwise - no vomiting or pbs just pain in that area. Can anyone help me????? What are the symptoms of a stretched pouch?

I am just beginning to eat solids and I ache all over. Is that an example of food sesnitivity or maybe I just have the flu - also a lot of gas pains. Can anyone help me?
-
I am sore all over - i am just beginning to eat solid foods and I ache - is that what happens when you eat the wrong foods? My doctor neversaid anything about pain relievers. I am taking enteric coated aspirin - what do you think?????
-
I was banded on July 18th and am going through the same thing. Today my side hurts-think I may have pulled something lifting a suitcase - also ache all over. On the positive side, my doc says weeks 3 and 4 before your first fill are the worst because hunger is back and it seems you are eating as before but he says that changes when you get the first fill so hang in there... It seems your reaction and hunger is normal. Is your stomach still tender to touch???
-
I was banded the same day in Texas - haven't done as well as you have weight-wise. I am not certain I have lost any weight yet - only hit the scale once in awhile. Are you still having any discomfort from the surgery?

Thanks for the info - I am not looking forward to pbs so will try to be careful but we all know how that goes.... -
I live in arlington so we are neighbors - after a good bit of research I chose True Results in Hurst and was banded by Dr. Marsden on July 18th. I really like his personality and seems like a normal guy; doesn't take himself too seriously. So far so good but no fills yet and I am self-pay so I really hope I don't have slippages or complications. What is the opinion on slippage - why does it happen? lin2

I live in DFW area - am curious - what do you pay for fills? I am self-pay and mine are covered for the first year but wonder about the cost after that? Thanks for any feedback.
-
Dr. Marsden did my surgery last Friday - I really like his personality. My nurse said he was an excellent surgeon - so far so good but no solid foods yet. Be sure and take your pain meds - no need to be in pain... It is surgery after all.

I have been reading this thread and it is making me NERVOUS. I had surgery 4 days ago and am spending a TON of money (self-pay) - r u saying that the Lap-Band doesn't work???? What is the RNY? I am new to this - thought it was going to change my life.... Do bandsters not lose as much???
-
Help - was banded on Friday - now 4 days later and I have gained 4 pounds. My diet isn't as strict as some - can eat soups etc already - what if I have spent all of this money and this doesn't work????
-
I am going back and forth about having the surgery - some seem to have real problems. Are there foods that you can never eat again - can you eat at restaurants - ever able to eat dessert? I don't know if I have the discipline for this once I spend the money (no insurance coverage) Don't want to sound like a whiner but I hope I can learn the truth about what to expect.
-
Thanks so much everyone - it has REALLY helped. I think I may be able to this after all. I go for a consult on Monday - all self-pay though.
-
Hi: I am considering lap band and have to go the self-pay route - anyone know about the DFW area - I live in Arlington-went to a Dr. Carter session but he seems expensive.
-
Thanks - where are they located? I didn't see that in your message.
