Few Questions from the newbie
skinipete replied to jpell1275's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chances are, there's nothing in there to come out! -
My Doc had an example of what pop (yes, I call it pop too. I'm grew up in western Pa) does to you. Take a bottle of pop & put a ballon over the opening, give it a little twirl. What do you think happens? The balloon blows up like...well like a balloon. The thing is you have a little stoma so those bubbles can't escape. Now that woul be hell. Made such an "impression" on me that I have not had a diet coke or anything fizzy since the day before surgery & I drank 3-4 oz cokes a day...sometimes more!

Chicken, chicken, chicken...
skinipete replied to rcruz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOVE talipia! I pan fry it in a little butter then season it with, only, smoked paprika. No salt. Try boiling chicken legs & thighs with a bay leaf, a little salt & pepper. It adds a good flavor & chicken is moist. The skin comes off...boiled chicken skin is just gross! Sometimes I'll put some carrots in while I'm cooking it & make Soup out of the leftovers, the next day. -
What does it feel like to be "stuck"?
skinipete replied to amonroy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you feel like a bite is not sitting right...stop eating, right then! Give it time to go thru the stoma then start to eat again. If you put more bites on top of it, you will surely slime. It may take you way longer to finish your meal but it's worth it. OK y'all now don't laugh at me, but this is how I have been teaching myself to take smaller bites....I look at what is on my fork & ask myself if that bite looks ladylike & would I like to see a picture of me stuffing it into my mouth. Many times I take some off or I cut the meat in half. -
I'm 4 months out & STILL crop dusting on a very regular basis. Night time? Good lord....Our bedroom sounds like a bombing range! Will this ever stop!?!? What causes it?

Loud gurgle,growling noise in stomache
skinipete replied to slimmy120's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When my stomach start rumbling & I don't feel hungry, I water that usually shuts the b***h up! -
I once worked with this woman who, one Monday, was telling me about 'last' weekend & they docked at a resturant/bar place to listen to some music. She started on this 'fat guy in a speedo' & how disgusting he was & how did he have the nerve to were that...nasty blah blah blah. I looked at her & said "How do you know he didn't just lose 100# & he's pretty proud of himself?". He mouth dropped because, no, in her selfish little world, she had not given that a thought. I'm sorry for you that that happened but I feel even more sorry for the person who feels so badly about themself that they feel a driving need to try to tear another person down to make themselves feel better. YOU are the winner in this becasue you are making your life better. Congrats on dumping that extra person! PS - Size 13! I pray for the day!

Things That I Can't Stomach
skinipete replied to xgrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only been banded for 4 months so I'm, what I consider, a newbie. One thing I know I can't eat...tater tots. Oh dear, they were a very ugly experience. I can eat anything so far. As for chicken, I don't do left over ckn breast, just because, even before LB, they were dry as leftovers. BUT I love left over legs & thighs (boiled with a bay leaf, grilled or shake & baked) they are way more moist than the breast. I cook them more now than breasts. One thing you'll find interesting is how your taste buds change. For instance, I used to love Italian sausage, now it tastes very bland to me. I know dark green lettuces are better for me BUT some days I just have to have a wedge of iceberg...it tastes wonderful. Yesterday I was running errands so i went to McDonalds & got one of those snake wraps...as I was eating it I realized that it didn't taste good enough for me to have wasted my calorie intake on it. Now that pissed me off, cause I KNOW that it's not like the old days when (this is really disgusting to me now) I would just go get something else to eat. Yes, I would have eaten both because lord knows we don't want to "waste" food! Anyway, after the snacker disappointment, I scratched those suckers off my 'to eat' list! -
For recent bandsters...
skinipete replied to missrach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc recommends not drinking cold water...not sure why but I always drink mine at room tempature. Also, my protein (right after surgery & now after fills) came from Carnation instant breakfast. 2 packs in 1 cup of skim milk...yummy. -
How much can I expect to lose?
skinipete replied to suchatimeasthis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey, Sugarbean...I'm 4 months out today too! I've lost 27# & I'm blissful. As long as those scales are going in the right direction, I'll be happy. Now if I had GAINED 27# in 4 months, I'd be going nuts! Everyones body is different. Plus I'm 54, that may have something to do with it. -
those silly stocking they sent home...
skinipete replied to just1more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are for circulation, right? OK, I'm not a Dr or anything even CLOSE to it, BUT call them and ask them why you have them (I didn't wear them). If it's for circulation, ask how much you'd have to walk a day to NOT have to wear them, then do it. You have to start NOW. -
Don't let the name fool you. My husband gave me the moniker, skinipete, after I lost my first 12#. Bless his heart. He has faith in me! I was banded on March 24th (226#) & yesterday I broke the 200# curse...I weighed in at 199. Wooooohoooo. Could have lost 27# sooner? Maybe BUT my weight loss is only going to be as good as the effort I put into it. I may not admit to cheating but my bod knows! On Sunday, my hubby asked me if I was disappointed that I hadn't lost more to date. I thought about it & said, No because I'm learning new eating habits...& this chick is stubborn. Hitting 199 is like turning another corner for me. I feel a new surge of energy to hit another goal!:scared2: PS - I hope I put this in the right place! If not...sorry.

Just had surgery...gaining weight???
skinipete replied to mightymorris03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This may sound weird but it works for me.....Anytime I gain, I quickly put it out of my mind & think about my lowest weight. I focus on that because I KNOW that I'll be back there in no time. Keep your eyes on the prize! -
Restriction getting worse
skinipete replied to cantweight2go's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you stressed about anything? When I get stressed my band seems to tighten up. -
Thanks, thanks, thanks!

Trust me...you will still be able to eat what you love. Just not in the same volumes (yes, I WAS a VOLUME eater). The cool thing about it is, it WILL be enough. The surgery? The only thing I took afterward was liquid Tylenol. It didn't hurt but I ached. However, after you hop on the scales after a week or 2, you will forget about that! Good vibes coming to you from Fla!

My Doc says no water with meals but why?

A straw question...
skinipete replied to BumbleBree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl! Ban the straw for life! It will put wrinkles on your lips. -
I had no problems! I can't take any serious pain relievers so mine was liquid Tylenol. I was pretty sore but that was ok because it reminded me of what I was willing to go thru for my health. GOOD LUCK!

Diet Soda, Post-Lap Band
skinipete replied to SweetCrazySarah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At first I had a couple of cravings for my diet coke but that has passed. Now water tastes better to me than anything. PLUS I am not peeing every hour! BUTLER! I am a Grove City, Pa girl, tranplanted to FL 24 years ago. Went to college at Slippery Rock. -
Last fill I told my Dr that my stomach growled a lot & he said that my body is changing & that growling doesn't always mean that I'm hungry. I pay more attention now. First I make sure I've been drinking enough water. If I think I actually am hungry, I eat a slice or 1/2 a slice of low fat swiss cheese & eat a bit later. I don't want to be so hungry that I gobble my food & well you know...barf. I HATE that!
-
Oh great so now when we see people pooting their way thru a store we can stop them & say "Oh, you're a bandster too?"
-
I was banded March 24th. At first when I had gas (read as the "poots") I thought it was my body adjusting to my new diet. Well I'm 2.5 months out & I'm STILL am farting up a storm! Is this normal? Am I going to live with this the rest of my life?
