banded on the 26th, wanna cry
jennibells replied to mykidmandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do know that I did the right thing because I have been through this before but let me tell you I AM STARVING:eek: I remember from last time that I was very hungry until I started eating real food again and got my first fill. I dont know where I heard this but I do remember someone labeling this time before your first fill where you have no restriction as BANDSTER HELL and that is exactly what it feels like. I just keep telling myself that I can make it till my first fill without gaining and hopefully still keep loosing:thumbup: -

I think we should be up moving around and maybe walking around the house at a few days out but I got the OK from my doctor to walk 30 mins a day at 1 week. I am not going to do anything strenuous but it sure does feel good to get out there and move around! -
When did you go back to work?
jennibells replied to koinoi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 3/17 and back to work on 3/20. I do have a desk job but I wish I could of taken more time off just because I seemed to be so tired:mellow: If I had to do it all over again I would've taken more time off, maybe a week. -
Moondust- It sounds like you had a good appointment. I did not have extreme weight loss the first time around nor this time, only 6 lbs in the last two weeks, but I do know that I loose slower than most and I did loose an average of a pound a week so I am happy with slow and steady! It is hard not to compare ourselves with some people who loose 20-30 lbs in the first week or two but as long as we are loosing than we are on the right path:)

Pezo- I have this thing called a chopper that I got from Walmart and it was only $4, I put everything in it. Yesterday I put fish in it and it chops it to whatever consistency I want. I love this thing, it is so small and portable. All you need is a plug. Maybe you should bring a chopper to chop up your crawfish, not the same but at least you could taste them and not damage your stomache  -
Rachel- I am doing good. The only area that is sore is around my port. I am on soft/ mushy food and I am starving!!! I hate this feeling, I cannot wait until my first fill!!!

Peascorps- WOW, you are doing great:thumbup: That is so awesome that are you loosing so much, so fast! I do remember from the first time around that I constantly had the fear of gaining weight back but it never happened because as soon as I started to stall was always just about time for a fill. That is one of the reasons I love the band so much, I am confident that I will not gain the weight back because I can always go get an adjustment. -
underwires & port placement
jennibells replied to amrcngrl1970's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was banded the first time it was to the left just above my belly button but when my band slipped and they had to replace it my doctor said they cannot put it in the same place due to scar tissue so they had to move it to the other side. I do find myself sitting up straight alot more as to avoid the discomfort so I guess it is good in some sense. -
underwires & port placement
jennibells replied to amrcngrl1970's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same problem but I am large chested and I cannot go without an underwire. I will definetly ask my surgeon when I go back in at my 4 week apt. I am hoping some day to get a reduction so maybe I wont have this problem:) -

Big Bones- I know they do not want you throwing up at all, especially so close to surgery when your body is still trying to heal. I would definetly try to stick to very mushy, soft foods until you are at 4 weeks. I say trust your instincts, if you feel like something is wrong, call your doctor. If you think you are doing too much too early than take it easy for a few days and see how you feel. I dont know how many calories I am getting in but it cant be much. At this point I am really just trying to stick to the mushy/soft foods and when I get to 4 weeks I will try to monitor my calories and watch what I am eating. -

I also got sick due to the anesthetic from surgery. My doc gave me meds and it stopped. They do not want you throwing up at all so your stomache can heal so please call your doctor. mlfull- I was also very hungry by day 7. I had to wait till day 14 for mushy real food. I was never so thankful for mushy food in my life:w00t: -
banded on the 26th, wanna cry
jennibells replied to mykidmandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do remember the gas being terrible the first time around and my doctor assuring me it was due to the surgery. I do not have any gas now and I am 2 weeks post op. I am so glad we have all these other people on here who have been through the same thing so that we know that we are not crazy. Every little thing I am feeling that is somewhat different I can do a search on here and find someone feeling the same way. It is awesome:thumbup: -
After surgery ? what is your post op guideline?
jennibells replied to tcbgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a realize band now. I did have the lapband but it slipped and he put in the realize band because he said it was wider and had less cases of slippage. I am just happy I have a band, I dont care which one it is:) I am sick to death of mushies and I am only in my first week! jet- I really didn't start getting hungry until I started eating soft foods. Once I started eating real food again I think it woke up my appetite. -
I ate some scrambled eggs with cheese this morning, didn't love it but at least it was protein. I do not have any restriction right now. I just need to make it to my first appointment so I can get a fill and than I will be OK. Its hard when you are in the mushies stage because it is hard to tell if you have restriction because everything you eat goes right down anyways

This is my second time around due to a slippage and I remember from the first time that I realy didn't feel very much restriction until I got my first fill. -
I also got very edgy and I think my hubby and kids are very happy that I can finally eat some food. The last two weeks were two very hard weeks for me mentally because I was not mentally prepared for the surgery due to having to go in for an emergency but I am thankful that I made it through it and I am on my way again!

I got a small chili from Wendys today and put half of it in the chopper and added a little cheese. The chili had 7g of protein and 80 cals for half and the cheese had 5g of protein and 60 cals. I feel like I got a pretty good meal, very satisfying with only 140 cals and a good 12g of protein.

I also was banded on St. Patricks day and I feel great! I am now on soft foods and I feel alot better now that I am consuming something more than liquids.

I had the same thing happen to me because my port was slightly turned. When he was putting the needle in it would hit the side of the port and it would bend the harder he pushed. After he figured out exactly how it was tilted and marked it on my chart it didn't happen anymore.

2nd Fill and Doc thinks something may be wrong.
jennibells replied to mlafentres's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor had trouble accessing my port on several occasions, the first few times he bent the needle. We determined that my port was slightly turned but not enough to have it re-done. Now that I have been re-banded hopefully the port is positioned better and I wont have to go through that. Good luck on your appointment! -
After surgery ? what is your post op guideline?
jennibells replied to tcbgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on clear liquids for the first week, full liquids for the second week (cream soup, pudding, popsicles) and than week 2-4 I am supposed to be on soft foods. After week 4 I start regular foods. -
I also had a good exsperience. I was re-banded on 3/17 and besides the gas pains it was a good exsperience. I had a little more pain because they had to remove the old band and place the new port in a new spot but the pain was manageable and I didn't use pain meds after I left the hospital. My advice would be to walk as soon as you are able and just take it easy for the first week.

Wow, I had no idea hormones were stored in fat and realeased during rapid weight loss! My re-banding surgery was 3/17 and my TOM was so messed up after my surgery. The first week I cried off and on for no apparent reason and I couldn't understand because I was so happy that I got to keep my band. Thanks for shedding some light on this subject!
