Recent RNY - How ya doing?
Napua replied to Corrine2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry for your bad experience. When I was taken to my room after recovery, I got out of bed and walked in place to release gas. During RNY, the doctor found hiatal hernia and fixed that issue at the same time. Discomfort feeling with very little pain during my stay at the hospital. After x-ray showing no leakage I was able to be discharge with no problem with liquid intake. Today 12 days post surgery no discomfort, liquid intake with no problem. Did many sugar free popsicles, bariatirc meal replacement meals, patch vitamins, jello, etc. My goal is BMI 20 or less. Good luck on your healthy journey. -
Doctor told me the bypass is like a drainage system with a very small opening. I have been taking very little sips of liquids. I see the liquid draining through the system smoothly. This way, I am able to take in the liquid. I avoid dehydration, constipation, etc. I do the same thing with unsweetened apple sauce on day 9. Got tomatoe soup at panera bread and sip the soup. tolerated it well. No pain, no discomfort. When I took bigger sips, I had a hard time with liquid intake. This works for me with little sips. Good luck with your journey.

Had surgery on 28th of August. 3 hour surgery. Dr told my husband he repaired a haital hernia he found beside the gastric bypass procedure. Was on Strict NPO till x ray next day to show no leaks. Gave me liquids and tolerated it. At first I forgot about taking small sips, luckily I did not have any effect but could feel the liquid bubbling so I stopped drinking. I walked and deep breath on incentive spirameter to avoid pneumonia and to open up my lungs. No pain, but had abdominal discomfort. Gas pass and felt relieved each time. Now on my 4th day, sipping liquid slowly , but I notice my new tummy likes liquid green smoothie so I named my new tummy Greenie. I have no appetite and smell of food does not bother me. But little Greenie does not like too much liquid at one time. Abdominal discomfort is decreasing each day. Started with weight 200 lbs, today 185 lbs. I am making sure my liquids are Bariatric shakes with protein and I sip all day long. Thus far little Greenie likes it. Vitamins are patches from BariatricPal.

Had gastric bypass on 28th of August. 3 hrs surgery, dr found haital hernia and repaired it as well. Stayed over night, next day x ray showed no leaks and tolerated liquids well. Discharge home. Gas in abdomen was an ordeal, after releasing gas felt better each time. Abdomen felt discomfort with no pain. Named my new tummy Greenie, cause she loves the liquid green smoothies. Frozen berries and banana, kale, spinach, moringa, hemp seed with protein shake blended well to liquid form., Greenie loves it when I sip in small amount each time. Discomfort in abdomen feeling better each day. At age 66 I feel I made a excellent choice to healthier living journey. Look forward to no use of cpap and health issues that run in the family like CA, stroke, high bld pressure, diabetes, etc. I believe with this surgery I avoided family history of health issues. -
Had surgery on the 28th of August, stayed over night and home next day. 3 hour surgery with hiatal hernia repair found by dr doing the surgery. Abdomen discomfort feeling gradually diminishing. The gas in the abdomen after surgery was an ordeal that was remedied with gas release. Named my new tummy Greenie cause she loves liquid green smoothies. Frozen berries and banana, kale, moringa, spinach, hemp seed with protein shake. Greenie tolerated mixture well. She enjoys me sipping slowly in small amounts. Good luck to you all.

Napua replied to Loriey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, everyone loses at different rates. Presently on liquid pre-op diet, surgery this Friday 28th. Just want this over with and start the healthy journey. I am ready. -
Call the clinics you did research on and ask them if they are in the NETWORK for Tricare. You will need a referral from your base doctor for WLS. Take that referral to the doctor in the Network for Tricare to proceed with the process.

Pre-Op Diet Weight Loss Liquid Diet & second guessing
Napua replied to MariaC6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Presently on liquid diet as instructed by my doctor. Losing pounds, however I am aware that off this liquid diet my weight would become an issue. I struggled with wt for years verses a few weeks with liquid diet losing weight. My choice to avoid other health issues is to go ahead with the surgery and venture onward to a healthier lifestyle. This surgery would focus me on eating healthier and eating junk foods that would cause dumping syndrome for bypass patients. My choice of avoiding dumping syndrome is a number one choice after the surgery on the 28th. Good luck you all on your journey to healthier lifestyle/living. -

Nurse came in explained Hipiclens(4% chlorhexiden) skin cleanser that helps reduce the concentrate of bacteria on skin before surgery and reduce risk of infection (over the counter purchase). NPO after midnight on the 27th. Etc. etc. etc. Yes, very excited and ready to venture into the healthy journey up ahead.
