kymmie I also had a fill last wednesday and I am going back to the doctor tomorrow for an unfill. I did liquids wed, thur and fri. I did mushies sat & sun. I haven't vomitted anything but the feeling is very uncomfortable when I drink. Right now I am eating tuna fish and it is going down slowly. Sometimes when I drink Water I feel like I have a lump in my throat. Last night I woke up coughing and felt like I was choking on my saliva and that was the last straw! I thought I would wait it out and see if the swelling goes down but after that coughing last night I am going for an unfill. It is so important to drink so you don't get dehydrated. Yesterday I drank about 60 ounces of water but it was uncomfortable most of the time.

How much are you eating one week post-op??
lisainbohemia replied to BellaPerdente's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yesterday I started full liquids and I feel the same way. I can eat an entire cup of soup also! I have been doing 3 protein shakes a day, for breakfast I had 1/4 cup yogurt, for lunch 1 cup soup, dinner 1 cup soup and right now I am having 1/2 cup pudding. I feel like I can eat more but I am afraid to. I have my post op appointment tomorrow and I am going to talk to the surgeon about this. -
Those who have been banded, what are you eating?
lisainbohemia replied to zeama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi all! This is what my diet consists of and I am starving! Week one - sugar free clear liquids: Water, broth, Jello, apple or cranberry juice diluted, crystal lite, sugar free ice pops, Protein drinks I have been using unjury strawberry and unflavored powder. I caved today and had 1/4 cup strained cream of mushroom soup with skim milk and I feel guilty. I can move to week 2 on wednesday. Week two - sugar free full liquids: add the following skim milk, sugar free carnation instant breakfast, blended low fat soups and broths, fat free, low sugar yogurt, sugar free pudding. Week three - four: add the following soft chopped egg, oatmeal and farina, unsweetened applesauce, fish, chopped meats (ground turkey or chicken), canned fruits (in natural juices) chopped well cooked veges. It is amazing how everyones diet is so different. Lisa -
July Butterflies Master Thread

Hi all! Was banded yesterday. Still sore and gas pains. A little about myself: I am 34 years old stay at home mom. I have 2 kids, 7 yr old and 17th month old. I have been obese almost my entire life. I've tried various diets that I would lose about 40 pounds and then gain that and some back. I know that I will succeed with the band. I got to the hospital at 5:30 am 7/16. I received an injection in my butt, I think to dry out my mouth. Then the heparin shot in the belly. Then I had to drink some digusting stuff to get rid of stomach acids. The nurse did the iv and then I was waiting for the scopal (sp?) patch for naseau. I was then wheeled up the the OR holding area where I met with the OR nurse, anestialogist and then finally my doctor. Then at about 7:45 I went in and was told to have a nice dream and then I woke up in recovery. I was so naseaous that they keep trying different things on me and finally I was maxed on that kind of medicine. At about 12:30 I was wheeled back down to the same day surgical area and was stuck there until about 3:00 because they wanted me to finish the iv liquids but my iv was dripping so slow because of a kink in the line. I couldn't wait to get home and get in bed until I realized I couldn't get into bed! I had to sleep in the recliner. I have been taking the gas x strips and I think they are helping because I have absolutely no shoulder pains at all. My stomach is just very sore and it is hard to get up from a sitting position. I am on sugar free Clear Liquids for 2 weeks then mushies for 2 weeks. The doctor said that I probably will not eat solids until about 5 weeks. Well hope everyone is feeling better that was banded already and good luck to everyone waiting for their day! Lisa -

Well I figured it was time to start documenting everything, so here it goes. On March 10, my best friend was telling me about how we should get the lapband to lose weight. Now being a member of weight watchers for many years at first I was very against the idea (if you even mention it on the weight watchers boards you get yelled at!) Then I decided that maybe I should look into this and talk to my doctor. So I say my doctor on March 14 and she said that she thought it was a good idea. I called the surgeons office to sign up for his seminar on March 29 and the moment he started explaining everything I knew this was for me. He gave us a packet of everything we would need to do as far as clearances so I started making appointments. Here is my timeline: April 2 Psychologist April 3 Gastro (need endoscopy) April 4 Cardiologist (need echo) April 5 Chest xray April 11 Pulmonary April 16 Echo April 23 Endoscopy April 23 Nutritionist 1st appt May 8 Nutritionist 2nd appt June 12 Nutritionist 3rd appt June 10 Surgeon!!!!!!!!! June 16 Hospital bariatric coordinator So before I started this process I had called my insurance company HIP and asked what the requirements were and I was told it had to be medically necessary (yeah no six months) then on May 5 I just happened to be on HIPs website when I see that bariatric surgery was revised on April 15, 2008. I almost died when I saw that. According to their website you now needed six months diet. I called HIP and the girl had no idea what bariatric surgery was and I had to give her the link to the website and of course she had no clue and said whatever it says on the website is what it is. Well I was pissed. So I told the nutritionist this and she said ok then come to me for six months. Then I thought did I just open up a can of worms? Although I didn't want to not say anything and get everything else done and then have to start over with a six month diet. So I figured let me just tell her. Then I decided I should probably go talk to the surgeon, even though he doesn't want to see you until you have every clearance including the nutritionist. So I get the appointment and tell him everything about the insurance and he tells me that he probably won't be taking my insurance much longer! I almost cried. He then tells me that he was going to submit everything I had up until this point and for me to get the nutritionist to sign off on the three visits I went to. Well 2 days later I was approved. I could not believe it. Thank God. My surgery date is July 16 and I couldn't be happier.

NYC and HIP health insurance ??
lisainbohemia replied to justicenyce's topic in Insurance & Financing
Just a follow up to anyone who has HIP. Your right HIP will never give you a straight answer and I asked for documentation on their requirements and they never sent them to me. You get the runaround when you call. In June I went to the surgeon even though I had not finished the six months (had till sept to finish) and told the surgeon about what was going on with HIP. He said he would submit the paperwork without the nutritionist and see what happens. Well I was approved in one day!!!!!!!!!! So if anyone out there has HIP and is worried about the change on april 15, 2008 requiring the six month supervised diet (according to HIPs website), have your surgeon submit anyway! Good luck to all! Lisa -

Hey Lisa, I have to do a pre-op diet also but the nutrionist gave me different information than what the surgeon gave us at the seminar. I am suppose to receive a package from the surgeon by the end of this month so I hope it will clarify what I am suppose to do. I did buy some samples of Protein shakes and unflavored Protein powder and also Calcium citrate 400 mg as per the nutritionist. How about exercise? At the seminar we were told 45 minutes aerobic exercise daily. I am trying to get on my treadmill for 15 minutes 3 days per week right now and will increase each week. Lisa -
