  1. I have pretty thick hair to start off with, so I've always shed a lot. About six weeks after surgery, I started losing A LOT. This went on until almost four months after surgery, and went away as quick as it began. Basically, overnight. I didn't take anything for it. I just figured nature would take its course, and I had also lost hair like this after the birth of my children and after two previous surgeries, so I wasn't too worried about it. It also made a difference that I have thick hair to begin with (fine strands though), so it wasn't noticeable. I can understand being more concerned if your hair is starting to look thin. Everyone I've seen comment on the hair loss, says it comes back.
  2. Yikes...you must be a purest. That's one fish I always say NO THANKS to when go out for sushi. Too strong for me. :blushing: As far as restaurants in general, I've never gone to one that I can't find something good to eat. I will say that I'm very lucky that even though I'm at my sweet spot, I haven't had any problems eating anything I've tried. I eat slower and chew well, but other than eating much smaller portions, I still go out and order normal foods.

Rancher being sued by illegal immigrants

That's a good point, Beth. It seems if anyone should be suing for emotional distress, it should be him and his family for having to put up with hundreds of trespassers using and destroying his property.

Rancher being sued by illegal immigrants

  5. I'd also be concerned about someone this unethical "owning" your pictures. Chances are, there would be something in your contract that you would have no control over their use. I can't believe that someone would risk having you (or anyone who knows your true story) exposing their deceit after their ad campaign comes out. (On a lighter note, this reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Kramer sold all of his life stories to Mr. Peterman, and then finds out he can no longer claim his stories as his own.) I wouldn't go for it either, but I did take a look at your pictures. Holy smokes, I'd think Body Bugg or Lap Band would shell out some money for your before and afters. You look absolutely amazing!! I'm very happy for you and your success.
  6. CM. thank you for giving us an update. I'm flabbergasted, as well, that your doctor didn't give you a slight unfill. You know your body and what you're feeling, and a simple, uncomplicated tiny unfill may have helped. It certainly couldn't hurt at this point. Telling you to live on protein alone is nonsense, imo. How on earth are you suppose to stay healthy leaving out every other food group?? I remember that you said in your earlier post that you had successfully lost a good amount weight pre-band. You obviously do not make food all important, or you wouldn't have been successful in your pre-band diet, but still, food is a necessity, and it cannot be healthy to deny yourself everything but protein. I hope you have some luck in discovering why you're having these problems with the endoscopy.

    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

Thanks for sharing your story, green. It's very interesting to read about how others came to form their beliefs. LOL...@ your toast comment. Carrie, I'll try not to hold your occupation against you.

    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

You're not related to Pattygreen are ya green? (heh) To your point, I've often wondered about people who are either so over the top in all their religious authority they drive people away from religion, those tele-evangelists who get caught cheating people out of their money, or so on and so on. I would love to know when it's time to face God, if there's some kind of line up of all the people they've driven away from Him with their words and/or actions, and if they're held accountable for those souls. I also don't hold a narrow view of who is and is not going to go to Heaven, nor am I able to point out who will and will not make the cut. It saddens me when people use religion in this way.
  10. I'm six months out, and I've been at my "sweet spot" for awhile now, and I can still eat everything I've tried. I've never pb'd, and I eat bread and tortilla's (just not on a daily basis). I had a wonderful turkey & cheese sub from a local restaurant Sunday (ate 1/3 of a 8 inch sub), and I had a few small bites with the bread, meat, and lettuce altogether. I didn't feel stuck, but it felt "heavy" in my chest. I opened my sub, and ate the meat, and then ate the bread separately. You just have to test things slowly.
  11. Hi Tera, and welcome to the forum. I was self-pay too, and it's been worth every penny. I had my surgery last September, and in less than six months, I feel great and look better than I have in years. Good luck on your up-coming surgery!
  12. ...but never to be confused with a pb&j. (sorry, but ever since someone made a comment about pb'ing on pb, that pops in my head. lol)
  13. I think if someone was upfront about WLS, then it would be fine. However, if you had entered the contest, and kept your surgery secret, someone somewhere would talk (gossips run amok), and you might have been viewed as being deceitful. I think you made the right decision. On a scale of one to ten on moral dilemmas, I'd rate this a one though. Personally, I can say that the band has made losing weight way easier for me than any diet or WL drug I've ever been on (leaving out the small $13,000 price tag, and the little matter about the surgery, lol). Sure, I'm the one who has to exercise and stay away from high calorie/low nutrition foods, but not having that gnawing feeling of hunger in my stomach, sure makes this exponentially easier. Anyway, that's my two cents. Regarding the tv show...NO WAY would I let America see my bulges, let alone know my weight! haha
  14. Welcome to LBT, Andy. I had to laugh at myself for dreaming about food during my pre-op diet. It wasn't as if food was on my mind or anything. lol Best wishes to you for your surgery tomorrow!

    Dry Roasted Edamame

The best freshly cooked edamame I've eaten, warm in the pod and lightly salted, is served in sushi restaurants. I believe they steam it, but I'm not certain. My grocery store carries it in their sushi section, and you just microwave to heat. I season with a little sea salt. You kind of suck the beans right out of the pod. My kids love this too.

    Dr. Consult

One question I didn't think of until I read on LBT that several women had painful issues with their port put at their bra line. I asked my doctor at my pre-op appt if he could tell me where he'd put my port, and it's exactly where he said it would go. Mine is about an inch or two below my ribcage on my left hand side. It's above my waist line, so it's location has had little impact on me, after the initial soreness wore off. You'll want to know how many bands he's placed, and if he works with a partner, do they work in tandem during the surgeries, and if so, how many bands the partner has placed. You'll want to know how they handle fills. How often can you come in, and if you have a co-pay, and the fill is too tight, can you come back in within a decent period of time (my office is w/i two weeks) for an adjustment at no charge. I'm self pay, so I get one year of fills, as many as I need, but after that they're $150. Also, you may want to know how they handle emergencies with fills. For instance, if you go to the emergency room for an emergency unfill, you're insurance and your co-pay may take a huge hit. If the surgeon or and associate is on call on the off hours, they may take care of you in the office. I also asked my doctor how my care is handled if we move. My doctor said he'd set me up with a new doctor, if that were to happen. You also might want to ask what his practice's rate of band problems are (slips, erosion, port flips). My office is well below the national average, and I would be leery of any office that was above average, myself. Those are a few things I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others, and some of these, you might have already covered or don't apply to your situation.
  17. That was my exact reason for only telling my immediate family and only my two closest friends about my band. (Oh and I told my hairdresser. I'm a long time client, and we share everything..lol). I'm not the least bit ashamed or embarrassed about it, I just didn't want the scrutiny, whether it had to do with my rate of weight loss, or the food I eat. I've been really happy with my decision.

is being too tight an emergency?

I'm glad to hear you're feeling much better. How lucky the doctor was already at the hospital.

is being too tight an emergency?

I agree with the others, when you can't hold down fluids, it's an emergency. You need to call your doctor. I hope you get this resolved quickly.
  20. LOL!! I was too, but I only knew because I asked. I went to sleep and woke up sans catheter, thankfully.

    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

I don't consider this success. It leaves the mother either considering an awful decision of selective abortion or the likelihood that her babies are born with severe lifelong birth defects, let alone the toll on the health of the mother. Like others who have posted, I have a close family member who underwent IVF, she and her husband ended up with a baby because of loving family surrogate. They would have never implanted this many embryos at one time, and neither would their doctors, for fear of this outcome.

    I feel dumb asking this

I'm sorry to hear about your boss. Your question is a very good one. I can't feel my band, but it does restrict the amount of food I can eat, so in that way, I know it's there. It did kind of seem a wee bit strange a time or two the first couple of days knowing the band was cinching my stomach, but still, it wasn't due to me actually having any feeling that it was there, it was the thought of it. Hopefully, you'll have a psychologist appt prior to your surgery, so you can discuss this with a professional. If you were to have an issue with having the band, I really don't think it would be due to the actual sensation of the band itself. However, if this is something that you would mentally have an issue with, you certainly want to have it worked out prior to getting a band.

    Dry Roasted Edamame

I was in Kroger's today, and I bought a bag. They were in the health food section snack aisle. Thanks again for tip. I've always loved fresh edamame, but these will be great for a quick snack, especially in the car.
