    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

The student loan angle is interesting little side note on the whole sordid saga. I believe these loans subsidized at a lower than normal rate to help students pay their tuition. I would think that once a student leaves school, they'd be required to start repayment within a stipulated period of time.
  2. I'm sorry that you're going through a tough time right now. I hope things work out for the best for you. I do believe what you wrote is true that often times these big life altering events can strengthen a strong bond, but also destroy a weak one.

    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

I feel for the poor neighbors who live in the quiet neighborhood where Nadya is relocating. A neighbor was interviewed this this morning, and he didn't seem at all happy with this prospect. Having 14 kids next door, 8 the same age, and the other six all under 8 is the stuff of nightmares, especially having read that the kids are not the best behaved.
  4. Like they say, misery loves company.
  5. Yeah, I know what you mean, Dan. I've only had a couple of complete unfills, and the first one was early on, so there wasn't much in my band anyway, and I didn't feel anything at all. Now that my band is very full, the doctor did a complete unfill to measure my total, and it was kind of uncomfortable. I can't really describe it exactly, but it was like pressure in my chest in a way, both with the unfill and the refill. When he was pulling it out and putting it back in, it kind of felt the same.

    Scars

My doctor said it should take about a year for them to fade to white. Like wstorms, I had laparscopic gall bladder surgery several years ago, and the scars are barely noticeable, even when I'm looking for them. If I were younger AND in bikini shape, those scars wouldn't give me one second's worry. Nobody would ever notice them. I would consider myself somewhere in between fair and medium complexion wise.

    What is going on?

If, up to this point, you have been able to eat solid foods (good proteins, for example) w/o issue, my guess would be that you weren't eating as carefully as you should since you were out with friends, and you ate too fast and/or didn't chew well. After that episode, you might have irritated your band and caused some swelling, which lead to the second episode later in the day. Going to mushies, or even liquids for a day or two, and slowly back to mushies (just like after a fill) is a good idea. Then try adding back a good solid protein (carefully), and see how it goes. If, on the other hand, you've been depending on soft food for awhile, because you haven't been able to hold down solids, then there's a good chance you are a little tight. I've heard many people say that being too tight, and eating only soft foods, slows down or stops their weight loss.

    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

That will be an interesting to see, Beth. I didn't realize until I read it today, that Nadya's parents are divorced. With her father paying for the new house, and the mother $20,000 behind in her mortgage, I wonder who will be roomies after the big move.

    Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

The sad part is that the only person whose first concern isn't the children seems to be Nayda. She has plenty of leaches looking for their 15 mins of fame surrounding her, but in the end, from what I've read, everyone is worried about the children's well being. I think she's waiting for the huge payoff that's just around the corner, and has squandered all the opportunities that have been presented to her. In the end, she'll be lucky not to lose the older children, but I can't imagine there's a chance in the world that any of the preemies will be sent home with her. There are some serious eyes watching her now (children's services for one), and from all reports I've seen, nobody that has had personal contact with her thinks she's fit either mentally and/or financially to take care of 14 children, especially children with special needs.

1st Fill and 10 Days Liquid???

That's a tough post fill schedule, cmaneice. Maybe he wants to discourage you coming in for fills. Although, as others have mentioned, your first fill is earlier than many banders. I wonder if this is his usual post fill requirement, or only for number one. There are tons of variances between band doctors on just about everything, but ten days of full liquids after a fill seems like one of the strictest.

    First time trying papaya enzyme

According to the bottle I have, they help with digestion. I think I read that they're good for people who are eating a high protein diet because they help break down the protein in meats. I wouldn't use them unless I felt like my food was starting to get stuck because the slower the food breaks down naturally, the better, I would think. However, in those times when I've felt like things weren't working just right, they seem to do the trick. I bought mine at Trader Joes, but others have found them at vitamin shops, and you can find them online.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

My dad didn't start to go gray until he was in his upper 60s, however my mom started going gray in her 40s. I, unfortunately, take after my dear mom when it comes to graying hair. Only you and my hairdresser know this secret, lol.

    Popcorn

I know that had to be a horrible experience, kkermit. It goes to show we are all very different and it's important to try new things carefully, although I would have thought two pieces would have been safe to try. I don't have any trouble with popcorn.
  19. I've ordered soup, beans, veg & cheese omelets, baked fish (if you're allowed), baked sweet potato...to name a few.
  20. Congrats, momster0!!!
  21. I have 10cc of Fluid in a 9cc band (Realize Band). Before I got my band, I went to a seminar presented by a Realize Band rep, and he said there was room in the band for overfill. Also, I talked to my doctor and some other people about band fills, and I've been assured that there's room in the tubing for additional fluid, and the 9cc amount is not an absolute cut-off. I also know someone who has had an overfill for two years in a Lap Band, and she still has good restriction, so I feel pretty confident that I'll be fine. I'm sure proper fill amounts are debatable, but it is what it is. In a quirk of my anatomy, I must be small on the inside, lol. Go figure. Now if I can just get my outside to match my inside, all will be good.

    My hair! My hair!

I really don't think there's a whole lot you can do except wait it out. I started losing my hair at around six weeks, and it stopped falling out at about four months. It was basically overnight when it started and when it stopped. I had the same thing happen after childbirth and two other surgeries. If I were to guess, I think it's hormonal and not unique to WLS. At least it wasn't for me.
  23. Pre-surgery jitters are very normal. Just take one day at a time. Be sure you're stocked up on a variety of liquids to get you through the first few days. I also started using adult strength liquid Tylenol after day two, so if you haven't yet, you might want to pick up some this weekend. But, most importantly, just plan to get plenty of rest the first few days home. Welcome to LBT, and good luck with your surgery. Check back in when you're home and feel like getting back on the computer. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask either on the board, or send me a PM, and I'll try to help.
