2 week pre op how did you guys feel.?
kellym1220 replied to melyg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets better on day 3. You might want to try a different shake (unless your surgeon tells you what shake to use). I used Premier Protein shakes primarily and also had Swanson Bone Broth and jello. -

Congratulations! I agree that your weight loss prior is probably impacting your post weight loss! BUT excellent job! -
Weight regain...I don't know where to start.
kellym1220 replied to Ann Parde's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I was on a call with my nutritionist tonight and someone else on my call asked about it and she said that anyone in this situation should do a 10 day liquid diet re-boot. I've seen several on this site, but since my nutritionist recommended it, it's what I would try. -
Herbal tea, broth, diet jello (any color but red or orange) any sugar free beverage, broth. Good luck!!

TRUTH! Nothing worse than saggy underwear! On the plus side...I kept all my "cute" underwear when I grew out of it! I will dig it out and see if it fits yet!

I'm getting close to packing things up and shipping them off! I put on a skirt that was too tight last year and it was a bit too loose! Woo hoo! So probably won't be wearing that one any more! I definitely am getting rid of my size 18 jeans...even 16s are getting a bit loose on me!

Gastric Bypass/2 Weeks Post Op

Congratulations! Good luck on this journey! -
How old are you? I know when I was in my 30's, I was not skinny, but not fat. As I got older (I'm 57 now) it seemed like each year another 5 or 10 pounds was "acceptable, but not ideal" I found myself saying "I felt good at 210, if I could just get there!" and then "I was always happy under 230, let me try to get there"...and then I realized I'm going to be at 300 pounds in 3 more years at this rate and decided I needed to do something! I wish I had done it earlier, but who knows? If you are not committed to changing your lifestyle, you might go through this and end up back where you are. Or, you could decide you want to change your life anyway and do it without surgery. I am only 3.5 months out, so I hope I can commit and feel great forever, but at 50 pounds down, I'm committing now! Also, I have been able to eat out, hang out with friends and still lose weight...I just order an appetizer and take half of it home and have one drink when I would have had several before (PS. I'm saving money, too!) Good luck on your decision.

Not losing weight on purées
kellym1220 replied to SAS11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you noticed any non-scale victories? Are your clothes fitting better? My nutritionist said that the body fills empty cells with water, which weigh more than fat (or something like that) but you should see differences in your measurements (which is why she recommends taking measurements...which I did not do!). I found that during my stalls is when most people noticed my weight loss! -
Under eye circles are DARK
kellym1220 replied to Tb613's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not sure if there is a correlation, but I was getting very concerned about the dark circles under my eyes. I was having my follow up with my PCP and asked her to check my vitamin levels and apparently I had been overdoing it on the Iron (I bought the BariatricPal Multivitamin ONE with 45mg of Iron). So I stopped taking that one every day (especially since too much iron = constipation) and now my dark circles are gone (and so is the constipation!) I am meeting with my doctor on Thursday (my PCP not my surgeon) and I am going to ask how much Iron I should be taking so I can hopefully get this right! -
Feeling frustrated and sad
kellym1220 replied to Horseshowmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with the above! Your body is recovering and if you had IV's you are probably carrying some water weight! Stay the course! HUGS! -
And I forgot to say...read anything you think will help! The Favorite Grocery Products thread is amazing and Food Before and After will give you great ideas on what to eat and how much people are eating. I have started shopping at Trader Joe's and Aldi looking for the best products I can get (for the cheapest price). I have a board on Pinterest for Low Carb Meals and Gastric Sleeve ideas. Most people on here are so kind and want to help! But the search functions is your friend! Stalls, Headaches, Coffee, Alcohol...whatever you want to know...I have typed in my surgeon's name so many times!

Favorite Grocery Products

Where did you get that? I love hearts of palm! -
Oh yes!! The stalls! And coming out of them, losing 3 pounds and then stalling again! I also am eating around 800 calories a day, I use MyFitnessPal and track everything! I make sure I get in my protein and my water and try not to stress. When I start getting crazy, I look at how much I lost the prior month and how far I've come in the last 6 months and realize I am so much better off than I was. I eat breakfast and I try to have a mid morning healthy snack or a protein shake to boost my protein. I also know that snacking at night is not my friend! LOL And keep track of non scale victories! Like putting on something and realizing it's not too tight! It will come off...try not to compare yourself to others.

Getting in your protein grams
kellym1220 replied to skinnyfeelsgood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat Chomps as a snack...they are grass fed beef/turkey/venison sticks. They have 90 calories and 9 grams of protein. About an ounce and a half. I also add collagen powder to my coffee (9 grams of protein, plus good for skin and hair) and 1/4 of a protein shake, usually caramel Premier Protein or Fairlife Vanilla (approximately 7.5 grams of protein). Throw in a Greek yogurt and you are almost there! -

4 days Post Op hunger
kellym1220 replied to karamonger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you were prescribed an antacid, take it, even if you don't have heartburn or acid reflux symptoms. My surgeon that acid in your stomach can mimic hunger and it has certainly help me! -
I think it's all about moderation. I bought decaf and at my first post follow up, I mentioned that the decaf wasn't doing it for me. My surgeon asked how much coffee I drank and I said one large cup each morning and that's it. He said it would be fine. I stopped using creamer and started using Premier Protein Caramel or Fairlife Vanilla plus collagen protein, so it's a protein bomb too!

Aldi has a zero carb bread...it's the holy grail. This cracked me up...they're selling them on Ebay for $17.99 plus $16.00 shipping!! (They go for about $2.50 at Aldi's!

I have a drink (usually bourbon) a couple of days a week. But now it's one drink over three hours, not three drinks over one hour, as it was in the past. I stay away from wine and mixers...too many carbs. Also, I know me...if I add "a splash" of diet ginger to my bourbon, it becomes a yummy drink that I can suck down. Straight bourbon is a sipping drink!! LOL

How many days did it take you to feel ok?
kellym1220 replied to bufbills's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
On day four, I felt okay to move around and work about a half day. Then every day got better after that. -
Worsening depression before bariatric sleeve

Oh my goodness! I am sorry that you are dealing with this! I would work with your psychiatrist to get in the best mental space possible to do this, work with your primary care physician to deal with the chronic pain and kick his a$$ to the curb! Do this for you! Good luck in whatever you decide! -
I hope things improve and I'm glad you are able to look on the bright side!! Praying that your kitty makes it home safe and sound!

Surgery tomorrow 11-10-20
kellym1220 replied to mlmx1138's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck!! I hope you have an easy, breezy surgery! Don't worry about puree stage...refried beans are a life saver! Also, my nutritionist said as long as you chew, chew, chew anything is a puree! LOL So I wouldn't eat steak or anything, but tuna fish and chicken salad made with greek yogurt and mashed well with a fork worked for me. YOU CAN DO THIS!
