I agree with Mr. Alley Gator. I plan the protein (for me) and then add veggies and starch for my son. So, a typical dinner might be chicken cacciatore and I just eat the chicken and some mushrooms, but I make fettucine for my son. Or a grilled top sirloin with asparagus plus a baked potato for him. I'm happy, he's happy...done! Of course, I'm 5 months out, during the first few months I purchased a lot of frozen meals from Trader Joe's to allow him to eat when I wasn't eating much, without me cooking and cleaning! For me, I would purchase some thick cut turkey and ham from the deli and weigh out two ounces and eat that with an ounce of yummy cheese (usually spoked gouda or havarti). I also use Pinterest for ideas and Myfitnesspal to calculate the recipes (frequently adjusted to add more protein, through Genepro powder or doubling the actual protein) and track my meals. That being said, I would love a good meal planner! So if anyone knows of one, I'm interested!

What to bring to the hospital?
kellym1220 replied to xoxomaya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I agree with everyone above. Wear something super comfy to the hospital so you can also wear that home. Loose, comfy sweats, a big sweat shirt...nothing that will sit on or touch your incisions. You will be waiting a couple of hours from check in to surgery (at least in my experience) so have a book, a phone or a tablet. After, I set the television on a home improvement channel and just dozed off and on until it was time to go home. -
Not for Everyone But I am a believer In IV blasts

Can I ask how much? I'm interested and know some places around here that offer this, but is crazy expensive $100 or $500 or $1,000? -
Yesterday, my boss (a man) came up to me and told me that I looked amazing and "whatever you're doing, keep it up!" I did tell him I was having weight loss surgery, so I think he knows what I'm doing, but it was great to hear!

Too old for plastics?

Me toooooo!! Just trying to figure out when and what first!! LOL 38 is YOUNG! -
I think my dog has put on 10 pounds and I know she has become a horrible beggar! (Only with me, thank goodness!) When I get full, I need the food gone or I will continue to pick at it until I am uncomfortable...and I don't want that, ever!

When they cancelled my surgery (it was scheduled for July) I called and asked if there were any other options, which is how I ended up "out patient" at the Hampton Inn! (I had surgery in a surgery center, they just couldn't do it in the hospital). I was one week into my liquid diet and at first I was devastated, but then I got determined and called and spoke with the office staff and said I was willing to do it wherever he was going to be performing surgery, if he was. I also wanted to make sure that I would be scheduled immediately if anything became available. And I ate pasta and mexican food over the weekend and on Monday , they called and said they could get me in on Thursday! A day earlier than my original surgery date. I confessed about eating and they said "Just be good until Thursday, and I was and I got it done. Good luck...2020 is a crazy year. I hope you get a surgery date soon!

Me too! I hope I'm not hurting my stomach! I cannot make this tiny bit of food last longer than 10-15 minutes!

Although not entirely outpatient, I was sent to the Hampton Inn with a nurse attending about 10 of us overnight. I think I could have gone home (and may have preferred it, frankly!) The nurse came in every four hours and ground up a pain pill in warm water and I drank it and I was fine. They left at 7AM, and I went to see my surgeon at about 10AM (I had to Uber there!). He said he had done the test the prior day and I was fine and I have been fine. I think staying in the hospital would have been good for the IV drugs, but other than that, I was perfectly fine. I was also their best (least needy) patient.

Are you allowed to have jello? And I know it's a little cold, but what about sugar free popsicles? Good luck!

My only problem with the charcuterie board is....I LOVE IT TOO MUCH! I snacked the whole darn day...go in the kitchen, grab a bite of cheese and a small handful of nuts. 10 minutes later, some meat and cheese and a "healthy" cracker. Next time by, a couple of grapes and some cheese (mostly brie). It was delightful! I never felt too full...but I ate WAY too much over a period of about two hours. So my advice would be, make yourself a plate and step away from the charcuterie!

July 2020 Surgery anyone?
kellym1220 replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I hope everyone is hanging in there and still losing. My weight loss has not been as quick as others, but I am very happy with it! I am staying between 800-1000 calories, focusing on protein and getting my water in. Yesterday was a great day, I wore my tightest size 16 jeans ALL DAY and was very comfortable! The days of jumping into sweats or stretch pants the second I get home are over. I also wore some size 14 jeans most of the day last weekend (without knowing that they were 14's) and they were fine too (although I was glad to get them off at the end of the day!) I am feeling great and people are starting to notice. Work the plan and be yourself. The holidays are coming, so make a plan! -
HOW WAS YOUR THANKSGIVING/ ANY ADVANCE PLANS FOR DEALING WITH CHRISTMAS?
kellym1220 replied to TheMoxieMama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my mom (81 yo) visiting for Thanksgiving. It was very low key, my sister, my son, my mom and me. If it could have ended with that day. I probably would have been fine, but since she drove up from Miami and spent 5 days...well...I gained 3.3 pounds and today I finally lost weight below the 225 I was at on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving! YAY! We ate out (I tried to steer it toward seafood), we ate leftovers and TOO MUCH CHEESE! And crackers, meats and nuts...little "snacky" things. (Plus eggnog...I made mine with a vanilla protein shake, egg yolks and spices, but the brandy...ah. the brandy!) For Christmas, it will just be my son and me, and I will NOT have all of the snacks. There will be a special meal (Prime Rib) and I have mashed cauliflower, but will be making mashed potatoes too. -

I found that I was over doing the iron, which caused constipation. Once I lowered my dose (currently at 0), my constipation issues mostly went away! -
The changes we don't talk about
kellym1220 replied to Ylime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You look amazing! We had the same surgeon and I hope I can get to where you are! I had a friend who did just what you are planning...she moved to Asheville, NC and is LOVING her new life! Good luck with whatever you choose! -
This is almost my EXACT same story!! Snacking, tasting, drinking...up 3 pounds! I actually opened a bottle of good champagne (a splurge for me) and no one else wanted any!! So I DRANK THE WHOLE BOTTLE! (Luckily this was after dinner and close to bedtime!) I made a protein shake sugar free eggnog and had one of those with brandy and then, since my mom is still visiting, continued the food fest through today. I plan on being as good as I can today (we are getting lobster and stone crab for lunch and having homemade turkey soup for dinner) and hopping back on the wagon tomorrow! No snacking today!

This sounds awesome! Not on purees, but I'm tempted to try it!

Happy Thanksgiving
kellym1220 replied to GradyCat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope everyone can be with someone they love, even if it's by phone or Zoom. -
Well thanks to you all, and an Amazon Black Friday sale, I actually weigh myself TWICE each morning now! I haven't been able to hook my scale to bluetooth (either of them....grrrrr) but I will ask my son to figure it out tomorrow. I have a Fitbit scale and the Renphro and they are weighing consistently, although this morning the Renphro was 0.1 favorable, so that's the weight I went with!! LOL

I went through my clothes yesterday and got rid of everything, including jeans, that were too big! It felt amazing! I still have clothes in 16 (slightly too big) and 14 slightly too small...but I'll get there and the 16's will go too!

July 2020 Surgery anyone?
kellym1220 replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's soooo hard not to compare yourself to others! But I weigh less now than I did in 2017 (when I started using myfitnesspal so that makes me happy! In fact, this may be pretty close to the lowest I've been since then, and I feel way more confident about maintaining this weight loss. I looked back and I am one pound away from the lowest I've been over the past three years and that was in in October 2018 (and I was probably on HCG, which I think totally screwed up my metabolism!) Anyway, 60 pounds is amazing, it's 20% of your body weight, which I think helps put it in perspective! Take care and keep drinking that water! -
How many days did it take you to feel ok?
kellym1220 replied to bufbills's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So glad to hear it! Constipation can be a b*tch! I started taking Colace nightly. That will definitely help. Then it turned out I was taking too much iron (I'm almost 4 months out) and once I stopped, that situation resolved! (Yay) Good luck! I'm 57 and I wish I had done this YEARS ago!! -
Every morning, after peeing, naked! I know that if I let it go, I will stop weighing and that's when the pounds creep up! I don't let it get to me (although I have been known to crawl back in bed until I have to pee again)!

Does Your Tummy Rumble a Lot?
kellym1220 replied to GradyCat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
MIne doesn't...but it never has. I have an iron stomach, always have. To be honest, it probably rumbles 2 times more than before, but that means twice a day, not once.
