    Food stuck in throat

Have you seen the Uvulitis post? I'm not having this issue...just trying to be helpful!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Dumping syndrome is real...I got cocky and made some egg drop soup with 2 eggs and ate/drank it all... probably way too fast! Fifteen minutes later, it started and three hours later I feel like everything I have ever eaten is gone. And the whole time I'm thinking "at least I'm losing weight" - ugh! Now, I am re-committed to not pushing the guidelines and staying on the liquid diet until Thursday!!

    Anyone for August 2020

My surgery (sleeve) was done on July 30th and I am in the midst of two week post op liquid diet. I feel great, just a little bit of itching and pain at the two largest incisions...and of course, I would love to eat something...anything!! Last night my daughter and I ordered soups from Panera (Summer Corn Chowder) and I strained mine and gave her all the "stuff" and just ate the broth/cream and OH. MY. GOSH. I was in heaven!!!! I didn't add protein powder to it because I had two Premier protein shakes already. Things I recommend: 1) Genepro Powder - I tried several protein powders but this was the smallest scoop and easiest to blend. I usually mix it in a little milk, broth or water and add it to any hot soups/broths. I use it to make Jello shooters that have protein in them, protein pudding and add to broths to make them higher in protein. 2) Use Premier Protein (especially caramel) in decaf coffee 3) Don't buy the nasty powdered soups...or if you do, don't buy too many! I have 4 boxes and they are the WORST! (At least for me). 4) Swanson Sipping Broths (45-50 calories and 9 grams of protein) Easy to heat, easy to drink. I cannot wait to get to the puree stage...and then real food!! And I am down 10.5 pounds from surgery day so a little over a pound a day. GOOD LUCK!! This is going to be a game changer!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

You are a girl after my own heart! I cannot eat the same thing over and over and over...which is probably how I ended up here! My full liquid diet does not allow for anything but protein shakes, strained soup and yogurt...but I cannot wait to get to the puree/mushies stage! Plans are being made and all recipes are welcomed!
  5. I was very uncomfortable for the first couple of days, but that has "loosened up". I find that standing will help with that feeling and make sure that you are sipping, sipping, sipping. I was sleeved on 7/29, BTW.

    Anyone for August 2020

Yes, I slept for 2 days, then day 3 was a bit better and then every day got better after that. Just try and make sure you drink your water and walk a little every time you get up (to use the bathroom or whatever). Take care!

I’ve always wanted??!! What are yours?

I have always wanted to: 1) Go on vacation and rock a swimsuit and sundresses 2) Get things out of the bottom cabinet without calling my daughter 3) Get down on the ground and get back up again!

    Full liquids starts tomorrow!

I'm interested in this too...although I have been on this phase for 5 days! LOL I have been scouring Pinterest for ideas and here are some: https://sleevers.wordpress.com/2014/03/29/high-protein-jello-mousse-full-liquids-stage/amp/ https://www.bariatricfoodie.com/how-to-make-protein-oatmea/ https://www.bariatricfoodcoach.com/liquid-recipes-protein-shakes-after-bariatric-surgery/ https://www.theinspirationedit.com/31-soup-recipes-for-gastric-bypass-patients/ Mostly, I have been making Campbell's Healthy Request Cream of "Whatever" soup, thinned with additional 1% milk and strained to remove any non-liquid bits for my one savory meal per day. I also eat one greek yogurt per day and a couple of protein shakes. Everything I make, I add a scoop of Genepro protein powder to up my protein intake...I even made protein jello shots!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

It's all the surgeon and nutritionist's preference. Different doctor's have different requirements...it's crazy. I saw a post about someone "shopping" their doctor for a good post op diet!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

My doctor only had clear liquid through day 2, so I’ve been on full liquid, including strained soups and Greek yogurt, since day 4. (It could have been day 3, but I wasn’t up to much on day 3!). I am also a rule follower, so I totally get it! But I can’t imagine 2 weeks of clear liquid diet! Strained cream of chicken with added genepro protein made with 1% milk has been my go to for one meal each day.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Day 6 post op - I feel good! It's been more than 24 hours since my last prescription pain med and I'm not even sure I will need Tylenol today. No problems drinking, big sips okay, multiple sips okay...no gulping! One thing that has happened is that the swelling in my knees, ankles and feet, that I have had off and on for years but got really bad this year, is gone! I have not really started exercising yet, other than walking around the hotel and the house, but I am actually looking forward to going for a walk outside as soon as I finish my decaf coffee with Caramel Premier Protein in it, And the best news of all? I'm down 9.5 pounds since surgery, 12 pounds from highest weight (the week prior to surgery), I only lost 2.5 pounds during my very short pre-op!! I'm very eager to start on pureed foods, but my doctor requires two weeks of full liquid post op, so I shall do my best to comply! I'm adding gene-pro to everything except protein shakes...that seems like overkill! I hope everyone has a great day and quick healing for those who are still in the healing window!!
  12. I had my surgery on Thursday and am headed back (to my dining room table) tomorrow. So not even a week. I do feel like I will be able to handle it, albeit at a slower pace than usual!

60 years young and having surgery

I'm 57 and I just had a VSG done last week. It was painful for the first couple of days and now I am almost back to 100%. I thought "Am I too old for this? And then I looked at my 87 year old aunt, who swims in the senior Olympics" and realized that I probably have MANY years left in my life and I want to be as healthy as possible!
  14. I had decaf with Vanilla Fairlife in it...YUMMY! Can't wait until I am at 7.5 weeks and give in to my caffeine addiction! I'm SO happy that I learned that I love protein shakes as much as flavored creamers in my coffee! Feel like I'm doing something good first thing in the AM! Editing to say if you are having a hard time with protein, try gene-pro (or some other flavorless protein powder...although I have tried both gene-pro and isopure and gene-pro is way better). I have used it in broth, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding, protein shakes. It's definitely a protein booster!

    Surgery day

Good luck!! Take care of yourself!!
  16. Things I won't miss: 1) Eying a chair with arms and hoping I would fit in the seat!! 2) Not being able to stand up with pushing myself up on something 3) Support garments and pantyhose in the Florida heat...every day! I'm sure there is much, much more!!
  17. I just went through this. Because of COVID19, my plans changed very last minute and instead of two nights in a "luxury suite" in the bariatric wing of the hospital, I ended up having out patient surgery and one night with nurses attending at the Hampton Inn and Suites. My daughter, who was my primary care giver, had a doctor's appointment the following day in Orlando (3 hours away) and so left on the day of surgery, knowing I had the nurses to care for me. They left at 7AM and my daughter came back to get me at 3:30PM. I was fine BUT miserable...the pain is real. Then we drove home and I couldn't have done it without her. I also groaned, whined and burped a lot, with my seat fully reclined and a blanket and pillow to be as comfortable as possible. And I made sure to take an Oxycodone right before we left. So, here's the thing...I could NOT have worked after surgery or the next day. I cannot imagine getting on a plane by myself and navigating my luggage, meds, etc. However, I am 57, so I'm sure that I don't spring back as well as I used to!!

    2 day post op pain

My post op was 2 days clear liquids, 12 days full liquids (Days 3-14), 2 weeks pureed/mushies, then back to regular high protein meals at 30 days out. All directions are so different!!!
  19. I found that if I diluted the Premier Protein Clear, it became much more drinkable! (Plus added water to my goal)

Also4 days out...following the program and hoping that when I get to the solid phase I feel the restriction and easily satisfy my hunger cravings.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Day 3 post op...focusing on water and protein. Last pain pill at 4am, trying to do today with only Tylenol. Feeling better!! :)

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Day 2 Post Op...still in quite a bit of pain and for sure not getting my fluids in. I know it will get better each day, I just have to push through! I’m so glad I’m on the other side!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Two hours until I check in...nervous and excited! I drank my pre-surgery drink and now I’m just waiting to go! Last night I had horrible leg cramps...is that normal?

Oh...my muscle is pretty limited (and kind of soft and squishy LOL) so I won't have that trouble!
