  1. I'm only a month out...and have also discovered a change in my tastes (although I would have definitely had a bite of the ribs...with something healthy that was on my food plan). I would try to come up with something like pulled chicken breast/thighs with sugar free barbecue sauce to satisfy my cravings. I have been trying to find healthy substitutions for things I love...I have never enjoyed sashimi (my saying was "without rice, it's just raw fish") but now I love it! And it's so much healthier for me. I also love Mexican food, so I made shredded chicken with SF taco seasoning in my Instant Pot and ate 2 oz of that with 2 oz of fat free refried beans with 1T each of shredded cheese, salsa and sour cream. I logged it and it had 168 calories and 18 grams of protein. I'll be honest, I couldn't eat it all...but I'm just starting real foods. I read almost all of the Topic "Food Before and After Photos" which gave me great ideas on food I could still enjoy, albeit in smaller portions! This is an opportunity to try new things and see what you like...focus on protein and healthy substitutions. Good luck on your journey!!

Almost 3wks post-op and still in pain

Pain may be normal, but PLEASE call your surgeon and let him know what is going on. Good luck!!

    Liquid ideas

Swanson's Sipping Bone Broth...I liked Rosemary and Lemon Chicken. 9 grams of protein and 45 calories.

    Hospital stay

Sleeve, then spent one night at The Hampton Inn and Suites, with a nurse attending.
  5. When I couldn't face another protein shake day, I drank Swanson Sipping Broths, 45 calories and 9 grams of protein. When I was really craving something more "solid" I mixed Healthy Request Cream of Chicken with 1% milk, heated it and strained the chunks out of it, Once, when I felt I was going mad, I had my son go to Panera and get the Summer Corn Choder, which I blended and strained...yum!
  6. Good luck!! It is honestly an amazing transition...the first week is rough but it gets better every day! And the surgery is not too bad...I slept through the whole thing! LMAO
  7. I had these last night with some salsa and YUM! The regular chips don't do much for me, but these were really food! I'm going to try and make nachos with them!
  8. Are you taking pain meds? I was pretty much taking the pain meds every four hours for the first three days, as well as an anti-nausea pill that had a bit of a "knock out" impact to it. After day three, things got MUCH better! I don't remember specific incision pain...but I honestly don't remember much!! Hang in there and contact your surgeon's office if you don't feel better tomorrow!

    My Fitness Pal settings

I actually go 25 carb, 35 fat and 40 protein. But I rarely hit carb or fat goal and exceed protein.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Hello all! Three weeks today! Wow! And still learning NOT to take one more bite (no matter how good) when my tummy says I'm full. My lunch was good...tuna wrapped in a parmesan cheese wrap,..but about 4 1/2 ozs and I tried to eat it all. Not "dumping" (at least not yet) but uncomfortably full! I just have to start listening to my belly!! LOL!

    Taking Meds Post-op

My post op pain meds were melted in hot water and I drank them. At first it was pretty nasty, but pretty soon I was saying "Bring on the Opium Tea!" (It wasn't Opium it was Oxycodone, and I was on it for about 4 days.). I have been taking my other meds (Crestor, Thyroid, Benadryl) with no issue, although who knows? Maybe the absorption isn't as great, I just know I don't have a problem taking any pills right now.

    POST OP BLUES

I think you just need to get through the first month or two, and focus on getting your protein and water down. As you get further in the process, more foods will be available for you, albeit in much smaller portions (which is good). Look at the thread "Food Before & After Photos", there are so many ideas of what people are eating post surgery. It DOES get easier each day! Hang in there!
  14. I will tell you this, I was supposed to do a two week liquid diet, did one week and the surgery was cancelled. Then, I ate real food, trying to stay low carb, but got kind of pissy over the weekend and ate Italian and Mexican food for dinner...and did NOT do low carb (although I did try to curb my carb enthusiasm!). Then feeling guilty, I called the doctor's office to ask them to give me plenty of time to do the two week pre-op before re-scheduling...AND they had managed to get me in ON THE ORIGINAL DATE at a surgery clinic (as opposed to a hospital). I came clean and they said not to worry about it, just get back on the wagon. My surgeon said my pre-op was fine. Now, does that mean it will be okay for you? I think you need to talk to your surgeon and let him know. Everyone (sleevers and surgeons) is different and my experience could vary wildly from yours. And I think you need to make sure that your head is in the right place...as you could very easily only eat dessert after surgery, but you will not get the outcome you desire! Good luck!!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Good morning, everyone! I am at 2.5 weeks, down 22 pounds and I am wondering if I have hit a stall as well! But I'm averaging a pound a day, (since surgery) even though my weight has stayed relatively flat for three days. I did have "dumping" on Saturday, so lost a lot on Sunday, so this is probably catch up!! Yesterday, I ate some white bean chicken chili (yummo) leftovers for lunch and I was severely uncomfortable all afternoon. My bad, though! I didn't weigh because I was in a hurry to pack my lunch, I KNEW I should have stopped before I finished the portion I gave myself, and today, having weighed out 3 oz of it, realize I probably ate 5-6 ozs yesterday for lunch! My nutritionist says everything is puree, as long as you chew, chew, chew...so I just focus on chewing as much as possible before swallowing (YMMV). I have really had no issues with any food...except eggs! Which I was really looking forward to during the liquid stage! Oh well. I will try again later! Have a great day, everyone!!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Well, my friends...eggs are NOT my friend! I had a similar response to my scrambles egg as I did with the egg drop soup adventure, except I only ate 1/2 an egg so not quite as severe. It's weird because I have used eggs in recipes with no issue. Today, I will be eating high protein oatmeal for breakfast and making something for dinner and future lunches with the ground chicken I bought yesterday...I wasn't able to cook anything yesterday, but I did make sure and get my protein and water in!! I hope everyone has a great day...I'm headed out for a walk before the temp hits 90 degrees!!

    Pre-op Not Dating until Post

Agreed! I want to wait until I feel more comfortable with my body, my routine, what I can eat before I try and add someone to the mix! I went out with my daughter and had half the inside of one taco... I can't imagine explaining that to someone on a first date!!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Try Fairlife, protein drinks, for vanilla and chocolate I think they're the best. I also like Premier Protein Caramel (also in my coffee, yum) and Cookies and Cream. The rest...bleh! I tried hummus in my chicken salad and it was quite tasty!! Last night I ordered tacos from Tijuana Flats with no vegetables (just beef and refried beans) and ate about half of the insides of one taco! LOL But it was fun eating the same food as my son! Looking for something yummy to make for dinner tonight, maybe chicken chili, for breakfast...scrambled eggs with cheese.
  19. That's amazing! I can tell that the scars will be virtually invisible! They look great already! Congratulations on putting this behind you!!!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

That sounds good! I just ate some chicken salad...didn't puree it but shredded it with a fork really well. Next time I might try hummus instead of light mayo...it was a little dry! I like Ithaca Lemon Dill Hummus...I bet that woulld be good with salmon or tuna!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I can't believe it's been two weeks! I still feel great and TBH I started purees a couple of days early! I had refried beans with salsa and a little melted cheese (only a total of 2 oz) and I knew to stop eating before the last two bites were gone. Then I made the famous Shelley's Ricotta Bake and YUM! But again, 3 oz and I knew I couldn't eat it all. I have an appointment with my nutritionist today and will ask her what to add next...after my experience with "egg drop soup", it may be awhile before I try eggs again!! LOL

    help i think im overeating

I am no expert but I would advise that you blend your mango with a protein shake or add protein powder like Genepro or Isopure flavorless or vanilla. I would sub a shake for the apple juice. That will add more protein to your morning, which should help keep you feeling fuller. Good luck!!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Your weight loss has been amazing! To be so close to goal one month out is no small feat! Congratulations!

    Clear Protein

I also liked the Premier Clear (20 grams of protein) prior, but found them too sweet after and had to water them down. I also liked Swanson Sipping Bone Broths (9 grams of protein and 45 calories) for a non-sweet option. For protein powders I use Genepro, it is a smaller scoop and seemed easier to blend without clumps into my soups, broths and tea. Make sure and mix it into a cold/cool liquid and add to anything heated. I have also added it to sugar free jello for protein jello shots. Good luck!!

    Preop soup enhancements

Those powdered soups SUCK! I have not been able to stomach them at all. I recommend Swanson Sipping Bone Broths, they have 9 grams of protein and 45 calories. I like Chicken with Rosemary Lemon the best.
