    2.5 Years out!

Congratulations! I'm happy to hear this. Thank you!

    5 week post op

For Mexican food, I ordered shrimp fajitas and ate about 2 shrimp and some refried beans. I ate the leftover shrimp for two more days! LOL For sushi, I ordered the sashimi appetizer (9 pieces) and ate 6 pieces at first and 9 pieces now. Of course, if you are not at the solid stage, I would suggest only refried beans and/or some sort of soup. Good luck!

    Skipping Purees

My nutritionist said that if you "chew, chew, chew, chew, chew" you are pureeing the food in your mouth. I have a REALLY hard time chewing my food thoroughly, i have always wolfed down my food. I haven't had an issue, thank goodness! But I agree with the above poster, try beans, eggs, yogurt, soup, pudding. If you do like pudding, add some Genepro or any powdered protein, or make it with a protein shake to up it's protein. Good luck!
  4. I dumped on eggs...both in soup (egg drop) and scrambled. I have since had a hard boiled egg, but only while I'm home!
  5. I heard that stomach acid can seem like hunger and my surgeon prescribed an antacid for the first six months. Are you taking an antacid?
  6. Are you post op? If so, follow your surgeons recommendations, but things that worked for me post op during the liquids stage were: 1) Swanson Bone Broth - 9 grams of protein and it comes in a cup you can heat in the microwave 2) Sugar Free Jello, made from scratch with some Genepro protein stirred in. I put it in 2 oz cups. 3) Later, went to Panera and strained my favorite soup (Corn Chowder) But as others said, try different shakes and like everyone else recommends, try Fairlife. YUM GOOD LUCK!!!
  7. My nutritionist said we should have between 600-800.

    Comfort food ideas please

Because you just had tooth extraction surgery, I would recommend something very soft, such as refried beans with melted cheese, one of my favorite comfort foods post surgery and easy to make! Also, any soup with higher protein values or scrambled eggs with cheese. These would be comfort foods that are still on plan! Feel better!!

    Right shoulder pain

Oh my gosh! Same thing happened to me, one night I actually took a pain med just for the gas pain in my right shoulder! It was gone the next morning...thank goodness!
  11. Here are my instructions...they may differ from your doctor's instructions...but the boot camp page does give timing for meals/shakes. Good luck! Post Op Diet & Boot Camp (1).pdf
  12. I was "almost" outpatient, and while it can be done, depending on the age of your children, you may need a sitter anyway! I spent one night in a hotel near the surgery center with a nurse attending several of us and drove home the next day...then sent the next two days groaning and taking pain meds. I think that would be very scary for a young child...luckily my 25 year old was able to take care of me!!

    Mexican Food

My first Mexican food, after refried beans in the soft food stage, was shrimp fajitas. It was three meals, and I only ate the shrimp and the refried beans. But that was at 6 weeks, per my plan. Good luck! FYI, you want to be VERY careful if you are trying something new...I had an issue with eggs at about three weeks (it was eggs swirled into chicken broth, a la egg drop soup) and I spent the next few hours in the bathroom! That would have been horrible in a restaurant!

    3 months today

    Congratulations!! That is amazing!
  15. Since I posted about Chomps yesterday, this keeps popping up on my FB page! Just in case you want to try them!
  16. I've been eating a half serving of Special K High Protein (7.5g of Protein) and a half cup of 1% milk (4g of protein). Fills me up and I always seem to lose better with that breakfast than any other. But, has anyone tried these? I get mine at Thrive Market (on line) but I think they have them at Trader Joe's now...as well as Amazon. 90 calories and 9g of protein. I like the jalapeno ones best!!
  17. Look in this thread... https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/486-mexico-self-pay-weight-loss-surgery/ Good luck!

    HELP!!

My surgeon had a two week all liquid pre-op diet. Because of Covid, my surgery got cancelled and I ate Italian and Mexican food over the weekend (I was hangry and had been doing all liquid for 1 week). Then they called on Monday and said they could get me in THAT Thursday, which was earlier than my original date! I told them what I had done and they told me to not worry about it but don't cheat again. The surgeon said I did very good on the prep! I'm not sure if the office staff clued him in on my big cheat! Good luck and don't cheat again!

    Gastric Sleeve - Outpatient

My surgery was initially supposed to be in-patient, with two nights in a special bariatric wing of the hospital. Along comes Covid (second wave) and I'm in an out-patient surgery center with a night at the Hampton Inn with nurses in attendance to about 6 of us. I had an IV tied to my bedpost and no IV pain meds (darn it) but the nurses came every four hours to melt my oxycontin in a little warm water and make me drink it. I was walking but I really felt like crap!! I REALLY wished I was in my own home (although I wouldn't have had an IV...I'm not sure how much that helped) because I would have been in my own comfy bed. BUT, the next day, I went back to the surgeon to check the incisions and make sure that I was feeling okay before we took the 4 hour rife home, and I REALLY needed to someone to bring me my pain meds every four hours. So, if it was up to me, I would book the hotel and see how you feel. And I would make sure that you have someone prepared to give you your pain meds every four hours (or whatever your surgeon orders!)
  20. Good morning! Got my Mr. Tortilla delivery yesterday, so I made egg and cheese tacos this morning. This is 1 egg, 1 egg white, 1 T of shredded cheese, 1T sour cream and 2 T of salsa. I was able to eat 1 taco and the overflow egg and cheese. It was good...but the tortilla (Pico de Gallo) had a strange texture...I think it would have been better if I had cooked both sides of the tortilla. Cook one side, add filling, then cook the other with the filling inside. But still, VERY satisfying!
  21. Also, I've tried the Pumpkin Spice Premier Protein...I think it needs something...maybe a dash of cinnamon? But still very "fall-ish". The fact that I am in Florida and Fall doesn't really exist could be part of it!! I'm currently on Pinterest looking up pumpkin recipes! Regardless, this stage will pass and you will be able to enjoy the foods you love...albeit protein forward and in smaller portions. I'm hosting Thanksgiving and planning to use a cookie/melon baller to serve the foods I shouldn't have but LOVE!! Focusing on the turkey to get my protein in, but also making a low carb pumpkin cheesecake to not feel deprived!
  22. When you get to pureed stage, look for pumpkin forward recipes! Also, soup is my favorite fall food...which is good when you get to that stage. What are your favorite fall foods?
  23. As stated above, the three week stall is so common! Also, were you on a two week liquid "liver shrinking" diet? If so, you could have dropped a significant amount of weight pre-surgery, which can lower your "weight" loss in the first couple of weeks. Focus on staying hydrated and getting your protein in...it will come off! Good luck!
  24. My first meals out were with my family at about 6 weeks, so that made it easier...and a relief to know I could go out and eat something I enjoyed and not overeat. Once I had a salmon salad and had abut half of the salmon and no salad...maybe a bit of tomato too. I also ate a sashimi appetizer at a sushi restaurant and a half of a seared ahi appetizer at a seafood restaurant, plus two raw oysters. I need to work on slowing down...both because I have ALWAYS eaten far faster than any of my dining companions (except my boss...who may have influenced my eating style), and slowing down would have us finishing about the same time and because they advise you to eat SLOWLY on after surgery so you can give your tummy a chance to tell your brain that you are full!

    2 days post op

Like childbirth, I only vaguely recall the pain! It was quite bad for the first 2 or 3 days and I took my pain meds religiously! And then, the pain went away...and I started this journey for real! I would advise that you take your meds as prescribed (I had to dissolve the pain pills in a couple of sips of warm water for the first couple of days) and see if it gets better in a day or two. If you REALLY can't get the pain under control, call your surgeon...but I wanted to let you know that pain on day 2 is normal!
