August 2020 Surgery
perfektlynrml replied to Bjc1227's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m August 7th. My program has a very strict two week prep. I can have seven Premier Protein drinks a day, 2 cups of broth, one Sugar free ice pop, and two sugar free jello. No solid food at all for two weeks. I have everything in the house so I am ready to go! -
I’m August 7th and getting ready to start the two week prep on Friday.

I agree pain that is making you cry needs a call to the doctor.

Pinch your nose closed and drink it. That should help.

Question about weight loss related to body shape
perfektlynrml posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. I had my final appointment with my surgeon and we decided on August for gastric bypass. I wanted to run this by the ladies out there. I am extremely wide on the bottom. What happened when you started to lose weight? Did it come off evenly? Did you lose all the weight on the top first? Any suggestions about how to encourage even weight loss? Thanks. -
Difficulties 3 weeks post op
perfektlynrml replied to Avb830's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The best course of action is to call the doctor. It sounds like a hiatal hernia to me but I’m not a doctor. Going back to the previous stage in the meanwhile seems like a wise thing to do. Not sure about dumping syndrome. This is a legitimate reason to call the doctor. -
I would extend it by another two weeks then reevaluate. Don’t push yourself.

Question about weight loss related to body shape
perfektlynrml replied to perfektlynrml's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a few suggestions for getting the muscle in the calves to thin out and some suggestions about loose skin. I lost all my weight at one point and had thick calves. I switched to non weight bearing exercises such as a exercise bike with no resistance and gradually the calves thinned out. Regarding loose skin. I swear by body brushing to lessen the loose skin. I went from 250 to 175 once and I used a natural boar bristle brush on my legs and thighs. It helped a lot. I also rubbed cocoa butter on my breasts and thighs daily. I was still loose but it helped. I'm due to have surgery in a few weeks and I have a new body brush and cocoa butter on hand. Good luck. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app -
to sit in a chair and fit! to get up from a chair and not have the chair come with me! to get through a summer without experiencing heat rash! to not leave sweat marks when I sit! to fit in a turnstile without turning sideways! to walk the length of a medical center without requiring admission! I post this because I am about three weeks away from surgery and I had to travel unexpectedly. I welcomed this trip because it reminded me just how much my weight is hurting me. Can not wait to be on the other side of this. 😀

Question about weight loss related to body shape
perfektlynrml replied to perfektlynrml's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I kind of wish my hips would go first cause they hurt my lower back. I'm just going to keep up with my strengthening on the legs to help me with my walking. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm getting my pantry stocked for my surgery. I just ordered 12 cartons of Collagen broth from Walmart. They also carry Premier products. It's a good deal to get free delivery for all these heavy items. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app

I don’t have precise date but it will be August. I have to do a nicotine level which will happen tomorrow. I don’t smoke so I’m puzzled as to why they need that. They should give me a date over the next week. -

I bought 12 of them. If I don’t like it, I give it to my husband to drink. He doesn’t care what things taste like. Lol -
Changing your mind

Thank you. I have to say that I thought for sure they would find a worse case of gerd in me because I always get a feeling like my pills get caught. Although I wonder if because I am older I just dont have that same ability to chuck a handful of pills down at one time. I used to be a champion medication taker. No gagging. Now forget it. The capsules open in the mouth or throat which is so ghastly. [emoji1] Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Changing your mind
perfektlynrml replied to perfektlynrml's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m going to ask if the doctor has a therapist that I can work with on these issues. Even if I do it at the same time as the surgery. I have the insight info the issue so that’s a plus in my favor. Maybe it’s as simple as staying in the moment instead of surrendering to blindly looking for comfort. I’m highly motivated to succeed so maybe that will have a positive impact on my ability to overcome these issues. -
Changing your mind
perfektlynrml replied to perfektlynrml's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay well I sat down and went over every concern that I have with myself. I did a pros and cons listened to a podcast that gave the specifics of when to choose one surgery versus the other. I have decided that because I am pre-diabetic with family history of type 2 diabetes and strong history or heart disease and a genetic disorder that pre-disposes me to increased clotting, that gastric bypass will be the prudent choice in the long run. I do have reflux but it’s mild at the moment. I don’t want to chance it getting worse. Thank you all for your responses. I’m so glad I have people to discuss this with in the middle of the night! -
Changing your mind
perfektlynrml replied to perfektlynrml's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m definitely a picker and I have a big problem with ice cream. I can eat a pint in ten minutes. I’m not a foodie but boy I love junk. I had an eating disorder when I was young and oddly enough I feel like the idea of getting surgery is kind of triggering it a little. I’m not purging but definitely binging a little more then before I decided. The bypass punishes you if you eat sweets. That could be a positive or a negative. I think if I put it in a pro and cons list it would be better. Bypass: Pros- I will lose more weight, I will keep it off easier, discourages sweets by causing dumping syndrome. Cons- faster weight lost causes more loose skin, chance of malnourishment increased, my history of purging could cause me not to be deterred by dumping syndrome Sleeve: Pros- less drastic, faster surgical recovery, slower loss = less loose skin Cons: may not reach goal weight, stomach pouch can stretch that’s what I come up with so far. -
Amtrak/Train Travel after roux en Y
perfektlynrml posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m curious if anyone has traveled by train after roux en Y. I may want to take an 8 hour train ride by myself to visit my daughter about 4-6 weeks after surgery. I find the train much more comfortable than driving to see her. I don’t fly at all. Does that sound reasonable? I will ask my doctor of course but curious to know if anyone had this experience. Thanks. -

That sounds great. Then I just need to pack stage appropriate snacks. I only am curious cause my daughter is expecting and the fetus needs surgery for a bladder issue. I might want to go be with her if only for moral support. -
Hello. I am due to get my surgery date assigned in a few days and I’m feeling really out of control with my eating. I’m not eating extremely large amounts but eating everything I think I won’t be able to have again. The things I am eating are bagels, large onion rings and chocolate covered cookies. I tell myself this is the last night and I will do better tomorrow’ but it starts again. The thing is I wasn’t eating like this before I decided to have surgery. Please tell me this panic eating will stop. Help!
