Help! Ate too much! Pain in the middle.

I'm reintroducing fluids again. It feels like when I first drank fluids after surgery. Accumulating lots of gas despite slow sips from the medicine cups. I am an excellent in walking so I got up and moved around. I didn't have the strong pain that I had yesterday after less then two medicine cups of fluid. So I guess the doctor is on the right track in suggesting it was a temporary blockage. I honestly don't want anyone to experience what I want through. I didn't follow the guidelines and it made me sick. I can't bring myself to admit to the doctor that I snuck a few scallops the day before yesterday. I chewed them well but they are not appropriate for this stage. I tasted them coming back up undigested when I was vomiting a whole twenty four hours later. I could have really hurt myself. I'm ashamed. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Hello all. I am in a room in the hospital and the doctor felt I had a temporary obstruction from eating canned fish that wasn’t moist enough with mayo. He is trying me back at square one with clear liquids tonight. I was so petrified because of the uncontrollable vomiting. I also got drenched from head to toe with sweat. I screwed up by eating too much at a time I ate at least five ounces of salmon in less then an hour. Too overconfident! Plus I don’t pay attention when I eat. I watch television at the same time. No more of that! Very scary experience! -

I'm in the hospital. My symptoms became much worse after my post. They did a cat scan and I have a blockage. They gave me morphine and zofran. It fel better until they needed me ri drink contrast solution. The pain came back and I was given more morphine. I ended up having a severe panic attack and they medicated me for that. I'm just waiting for my do for to tell me how they will proceed from here. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Laser was not an option in my program. Laser sounds like it would be quicker healing but it sounds like a newer technology that might not have all the kinks worked out. I’m going to look it up for sure now. You’ve got me curious.

I have had a bit of regurgitation but not full puking. The pain was bad and it lasted! That was upsetting. So far no solid food today. Feeling better.
-
Thankfully I didn’t puke. I would have been very scared if that happened. I’m going to do refried beans today. Trial and error figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

Day 13-14 moving on to Purée diet. Encountered some difficulties with purée. I mixed up some canned crab with light mayo and yogurt and I apparently did not soften it enough. It got stuck in my esophagus and I got a bad series of spasms in the area between the breast and at the top of the stomach. I’m still feeling tender hours later but my vital signs are normal. I don’t think I did any permanent damage but I plan to step back to full liquids or maybe even clear Liquids tomorrow. So that is a very important lesson learned. Purée must be very wet and loose at first. I’m also eating too fast. I got overconfident with the way full liquids went down. Other than that I’m walking twice a day for about twenty minutes each session. I feel a little depressed today but hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Ask them to give you something to relax when you get there. They put it right in the intravenous. See if you can listen to a meditation station on Pandora radio. That helps me.
-
I will look into that. Thank you.

Day 11 - First post surgical visit. Today I saw my doctor and he was pleased with my progress. I asked him a few questions: Can I take capsules? Yes but take them one hour apart and don’t take them with anything else Can I use my exercise bike? Yes Can I use my hand weights? Yes Can I do leg lifts and stretches? Yes. I need to let my body be my guide. If anything hurts or feels strained I am to stop on the spot, I asked about travel and to my surprise he said yes. I can travel by car or Amtrak. I don’t fly so I didn’t ask about that but I am very happy because I’m anxious to go and visit my daughter who is in her sixth month of pregnancy. I mentioned that I am taking acidophilus but he didn’t seem to have an opinion on that. I was able to double my walking today with ease. Gas continues to be an annoying problem. I’m not going to complain too much because if gas is the worst symptom I have then I will take it.

Day 10 - a good day indeed. Today I got what I can only describe as a whoosh. Energy level is up. My daily walk was brisk and free of foot neuropathy. I ate 950 calories today. The most I have been able to get in so far. I met my protein intake of 60 grams and had delicious Blended butternut squash and carrot Cashew soup! I went shopping for new wrist weights and I ordered a new bed. I promised myself a new bed because my old one has a huge depression where my very large bottom was. I feel better today then I have in a long time. Tomorrow is my first check up with the doctor. I’m only ten days out but I hope he advances me to purée. I’m dying to make chicken salad and feel some real food in my mouth. Feeling real good about my choice.

Day 9-10 (mini post) Probiotics- I started probiotics two days ago and I have to say my stomach feels a lot better. I am having less gas and I am also moving my bowels normally now. The product I use is a chewable strawberry flavored water taken three times a day. Only 1 go of sugar. https://www.naturesbounty.com/our-products/specialty/diet-supplements/chewable-acidophilus-with-bifidus-100-wafer/

Thank you. Do you have any particular concerns or is it general anxiety you’re having?

Regarding day 8, I ended up with pretty severe Gas pains in the middle of the night. I’m thinking the Goya black bean soup was the culprit. I was so uncomfortable that I went out in the middle of the night to purchase Chewable probiotics. The remedy for a food that is not tolerated is to hold it for a week or two and retry it again in a smaller volume. I’m definitely going to try that because beans are too valuable a food to cross off the list.
-
The important thing to understand is that it’s not a straight line. Even within a single day right now the body fluctuates in terms of recovery. I’m trying to document it best as possible for those coming after me down the road to recovery.

Day 8 - fatigue today. I took two naps during the day. I introduced a new food today. Goya black bean soup blended until no beans visible. I also had a low sodium v8 which I drank using medicine cups. Both were delicious and well tolerated. I took a short stroll today in the park. It’s getting easier to tolerate the walks. I had more gas then ever today. I’ve never been this gassy in my life! I was able to go to the bathroom today without any laxatives which was a relief. I continue to use the premier protein shakes to meet the daily protein requirements for my program (60 grams). Tomorrow I plan on having a well blended sweet potato pumpkin soup as my meal. Im kind of scared to eat yogurt right now because I feel like that was the troublemaker the other day. I will reintroduce the yogurt again in a few days.
-
It went away on its own. I know what I did wrong. I added three new items to my diet in one day and my stomach pouch probably wasn’t ready for that.
-
Day 8 - on to stage two, full liquids. Today I am nauseated. New things I tried today Plain fat free yogurt with protein powder. Not very good tasting and not fun to eat. I tried a V 8 which tasted good and went down easy. Too easy I think because I had some feeling of bloat for a while afterward. Without using the medicine cups I seem to be drinking too fast. Gas is still a problem too. I lost five more pounds for a total of 15.5 since the prep diet on 7/24/20. This evening I went for a walk but I couldn’t go for that long just 15 minutes or so. I feel weak and I already have neuropathy in my feet so I have balance issues. I have exercises that I can do to promote better balance but I need permission from the surgeon to put them into action. I was also able to take all my 3x tops out of my closet because they are super loose on me. I’m donating them to a church that serves the poor in my city. I’m going to have to do something about my sluggish digestive tract. I have only gone once and that’s not typical for me at all. I have colace but they are gel caps and they are bigger then the mouth of a straw. Not sure what to do. I’ll bring it up with the doctor on Tuesday.

You need to see a gastroenterologist. That could be a stricture or scar tissue build up. Can you reach out to your bariatric surgeon first? They probably know who to send you to. Your pcp is not the right person to see. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app

Right around the corner. I think the best advice to give is to anticipate that you might have a roller coaster of emotions. That was the thing that shocked me the most. If you can try to bring headphones and download a streaming app so you can listen to calming music. I used Pandora and listened to the spa channel after my panic attack and then again at home when I felt frustrated. Walk the unit as much as you can tolerate to get rid of gas once permitted. It’s very painful when you are freshly operated on. Ask me anything if you have questions.

Day 7 - Today I had an episode of weakness and lowered pulse (54). I discussed it with my doctor and he said I need more water. I increased my water and then just a few minutes ago, I regurgitated water and soup. It wasn’t a whole lot and it happened as a result of trying to burp. Still have lots of gas activity. I’m feeling better then earlier in the day but I have to find the right rate of drinking water so I don’t regurgitate again. I was allowed to remove the outer dressings today and I took a nice shower with a mild soap. I use Aveno gentle body wash. I’m going to be early at night and waking up early with no naps during the day. That is a major change for me because I was sleeping up to three hours during the day at my highest weight. I’m down a total of 10.5 pounds since August 31st when I started the prep diet. I can tell that this is going to work for me. 😀

Pre-Op Diet & bloating?
perfektlynrml replied to MariaC6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was super constipated after the first few days. I increased my water to 96 oz a day and took mirilax.
