Pre-op diet- taste changes and insomnia!
MandoGetsSleeved replied to MariaC6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HAHA - No insomnia yet, but I can definitely agree on the sweetness of the shakes. It's a struggle to choke 3 down now! If you come up with another good alternative, I'd love to hear about it. I've also resorted to broth.... Good luck! -
Can't stop cheating on my preop diet
MandoGetsSleeved replied to anniedebbie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with what everyone else has said - I would definitely call the surgeons office to be sure. I am also in the pre-op phase with surgery tomorrow. I have NOT cheated, but I can tell you that I've been tempted what feels like a million times (especially when cooking for the family!). This week, I have purposely had food in the house that I shouldn't eat just to make sure that I CAN do this. It's a mind game that truly screws with your head. For you; today is a new day - The first day of the rest of the journey - Treat it as such and jump right back on that wagon. You CAN do this - Don't beat yourself up and keep looking to the future. When I'm feeling tempted, rather than look at what other surgeons say for pre-op, I've gone online and looked at before and after pictures, come on here to see what the "pros" have done to help my motivation. -
Just wanted to say thank you for your journals - My surgery is this week and hearing the "blow by blow" has been great!

Pre-Op Diet & bloating?
MandoGetsSleeved replied to MariaC6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure if this will help, but yesterday nutritionist suggested we take Lactaid pills during pre-op diet if we were drinking the Premier shakes because of the amount of milk in there - Said that would help with any ... uh... digestive issues. -
UGH - Cookies and cream - Day 2 of my pre-op here and pretty sure I'll NEVER drink these again after this box is gone! (Premier Protein brand) - I'm thinking the upside to this is that I darned sure don't want to drink any extra!! I am also scheduled for the 19th - My final pre-op is Friday when they do the COVID test during pre-admissions. My fingers are crossed for you on getting everything you need in time. I also agree with the other folks - Might be time to ask for someone else in the office. I'll add to your rant - During my nutritiotion call yesterday, she said "Now isn't the time to give up caffeine...if you only drink a cup or two, it's ok" - I barely heard through this through the screaming headache from lack of caffeine... haha! I look forward to sharing success stories with you soon!

I think the decision to tell or not tell will vary by both individuals and their environments. My surgery is on the 19th and I've told pretty much everyone that I spend time with. Some have certainly been more supportive than others, but the driving factor for me has been accountability (I might be a bit competitive!). I feel like the more educated my circle is, the better my support will be. I am hoping that the knowledge that I have PHYSICAL restrictions with regards to food intake will alleviate some of the "you aren't eating enough" or "just try a bit of x" social aspects of the surgery. Just my thoughts - Again, I think it's a very personal decision and people should do what works best for themselves. I also agree with other folks that you aren't telling a lie... Just a little omission!

@YouniqueNY I'll be using the PremierProtein - I seem to like them the best. Found a new flavor (Apple Cinnamon) last week that is fantastic for breakfast. On the sweeter side, so I tend to drink it slower. Also experimenting with some of the flavored waters. A good friend of mine said to make sure I also get some broth as the sweet drinks will start getting old after a couple of days. Congrats on your surgery date and birthday! Way to start off a "new year" with a "new you"!

Just got my date this morning! August 19th! So excited. 1 week liquid pre-op diet.

Average weight loss following VSG
MandoGetsSleeved replied to over65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While I realize no two people are the same (and I'm sure some folks might not like this chart..), I LOVE having an idea of what's possible (hopefully even probable!) - I'd love to see how others further into this journey have fallen into this chart. -
Loving life, feeling amazing, 9 months post op check in :)

Congrats! And agree with your statement about this site being so motivational - Currently waiting for insurance approval so keep these great stories coming! -
WOW! That does seem a bit extreme. Are all of these insurance requirements or are some your surgeon's requirements?

Hello! I officially started the process yesterday (excited AND nervous)! This is something I've been considering for years and after much consideration I've decided it's the right time. In reading so many of the posts, I have NO IDEA what to expect with regards to timeline. It seems that my insurance (BCBS of IL) doesn't have some of the more complicated requirements that many others do. So far, the only requirements have been: - Letter (from me) to insurance company documenting weight loss attempts. - Meeting with psychiatrist - Meeting with nutritionist - Support Group Attendance - Pre-Op Meeting I met with the surgeon yesterday and received all of the requirements. Honestly, they seem very basic and something that could be completed in a very short period of time. Anyone else using BCBS of IL and know what I might expect next? Thanks to all for the information I've already received on this site. Your stories have motivated me beyond belief and I am looking forward to this journey.
