OMG! Never eat too fast!
MandoGetsSleeved replied to sizemedown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OMG! I just did this last night. A SINGLE egg and a turkey sausage (both of which I have eaten for the last week with no issues). I don't think I have ever been so miserable in my life. I think I moaned for about 2 hours before I wasn't miserable. In my case, I think I did two things: 1- Drank water up until about 10 minutes before I ate. 2 - Ate too fast. Like you, no complications, no issues (other than constipation the first week), and progressing to foods just fine. I swear you just gave the best advice EVER. Knowing me, I'm sure this will happen again, but I can assure you not anytime in the near future. Hope you're feeling better! -

Sleeved 8/19 - First road trip for work this past week. Lessons: 1 - Mini Crab Cakes are DELISH - Ordered an appetizer and that was dinner for 3 nights! 2 - Pack your food if possible - Just easier - Tuna packets are awesome. 3 - Quest protein bars are VILE - I mean, VILE and hit your stomach like a brick @ 3 weeks out! 4 - Quest protein tortillas are AWESOME (taco flavored) - Loved the crunch/texture and half a bag satisfied my urges. 5 - For some reason it was a hella lot harder to get in my water on site (and took 4 bottles with me every day) 6 - When you go out to eat and they put water in front of you before your meal it's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to not take a sip! - Had to put the glass across the table. Felt very odd. 7 - My workmates are awesome - Told everyone and not one person tried to pressure me into anything. 8 - The "beast" (my stomach) appears to have been tamed! 9 - Think I've hit the infamous stall and SO HAPPY to have seen so many warnings about it on here. Hope everyone is doing fantastic! -
First “party” since revision
MandoGetsSleeved replied to Jdymitc's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
NOT crazy!! If you're feeling REALLY crazy, you could tell them you didn't bring any diapers in case of dumping so you think you'll play it safe? Alternately, maybe take a tray or two of things that you can both eat and share - Always have a carrot or something similar in your hand so no one is handing you anything? Then worse case...simply fake it? Hate to waste food, but maybe make a small plate and push the food around a little so it looks like you ate? -

Ready for puréed? Should I be? Feeling full? HELP
MandoGetsSleeved replied to Itsmehab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Itsmehab, I think many of us weren't sure in the beginning. I'm almost 3 weeks post op and have been doing soft/pureed foods now for just over a week. After reading so many experiences on here, I started SLOW - Like REALLY slow with soft foods. The first thing I had was a scrambled egg - I ate it with a baby spoon (and yup... felt really strange) and took tiny, slow bits at a time. As I was cooking it, I thought - Geez, there's no way this will fill me up. BUT... I was amazed!! I took about 15-20 minutes to eat it and felt full after about 3/4 of it and stopped. So... My "moral" is to take it slow - I KNOW when I've had enough. From eggs, I went to soup (like chicken noodle since I was craving salt) in the blender and sipped on it slowly. Introduce one thing at a time to see if your pouch "likes" it. I've been trying new things every other day or so and knock on wood haven't had a problem. If it's something new, I'll only take a couple of bites and wait an hour or so to make sure all is well. Once you're comfortable with the food settling, make sure you only put as much as you should be eating in the bowl/plate. It's super easy to eat too fast and make yourself miserable (might have learned that the hard way with a cup of soup!) As far as being ready, I also felt like I was ready earlier, but decided to follow my surgeons program to have the best chances of no complications. I read about folks who have problems and they don't sound so pleasant so I just figured it's not worth taking the chance to advance too quickly. A -
I'll jump in here. First, my husband is the most amazing man for me. I couldn't ask for a better husband or friend. Ultimately he has supported almost every decision I have made including WLS. That being said, when I first brought it up, he did NOT like the idea. He's someone who who generally shows very little emotion outwardly and I have to pry some things out of him. What I discovered is that he was SCARED. SCARED - For him, surgery is an absolute last option for anything. He never once told me "You can't do this." (Pretty sure he knew better!) That being said, once we really started talking about it and I showed him the odds of complications, he started coming around. He still preferred that I not take the risk, but DID support my decision. I'm still very new into this process (only 3 weeks post surgery), but now that he sees I'm fine and we have more or less resumed our normal daily lives he's very involved and supportive in the process. I had my surgery just a few days before his birthday and our new joke is that I gave him a trophy wife for his birthday! It sounds like you have a great guy and a great relationship. A good foundation will hopefully ease him into this decision.

2 weeks out from surgery got the green light for soft foods
MandoGetsSleeved replied to newmeapproaching's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Scrambled Eggs (with a tiny bit of shredded cheese), Pureed Soups - OMG - Campbells Kickin Crab and Corn in the blender is AMAZING! Starkist Tuna (in 2 oz packages) has a ton of flavors that are really good. If you like spicy stuff, the Buffalo flavor is great (AND, they are only .99 most places)- 9 grams of protein!. Very thinly sliced deli meat, soft flaky fish are all my go-to's right now. Cappucinno with skim milk if you can tolerate milk. -
How to keep protein drinks cold
MandoGetsSleeved replied to RainbowBrite57's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use a Yeti cup and it keeps it cold for about an hour. -
Can I contact my Insurance to see if I was approved?
MandoGetsSleeved replied to Hi_How_Are_Ya's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to look online with the Insurance Company and found my approval (different company though) -
Sorry you're in pain - Hopefully it subsides soon! If you're able... walk walk walk - If it's gas pain, that will help more than you can possibly imagine. FYI, it feels really strange to start walking and burping - It's not a painful burp, more of a quiet release of air.

Sounds like you are doing great! Like you, I was pretty swollen and weighed more after surgery. I think it was about 4 days and then BOOM it just went away. Hopefully you experience the same. also, after about 7 days I was able to side sleep...Now...rolling back over and getting out of the bed was uh...interesting...I just went slow. 11 days out, very minimal discomfort when I roll over. keep it up, your doing fantastic! -

What I've Learned Three Years Post Sleeve
MandoGetsSleeved replied to Danny Paul's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for the reminder Danny Paul - I am still new on this journey (like VERY new) and definitely in the honeymoon phase. Hearing stories like yours always helps to remind me there will come a time when my food choices REALLY matter and I need to take this time to retrain my mind and body. Best of luck to you with those last 4.5 pounds! It sure seems like you have the right mindset and will kick ass! -

1 week post op here. Still a tad tender where the beast was removed, but otherwise good. Feeling like I turned a corner with water the last couple of days. I can actually get in a 16.9 oz bottle down in a couple of hours. I’ve been able to choke down at least 1.5 premier shakes. Added some PB2 for extra protein (even found some with probiotics!) so far, no desire for real food. I think half of that is fear from what other folks have posted about eating anything too soon post surgery. All in all, I’m happy with progress. Hoping all my August peeps are feeling great! -

Also had mine yesterday and just got home! I haven’t been in much pain and so far have tolerated liquids, but MAN do I have some heartburn. Like many have previously said WALK WALK WALK! I did 7000 steps throughout the night and I don’t think I have any gas pains! Woo Hoo!!! -
