Thankful Thread for 9/14 to 9/20

I am thankful my back is not hurting. I was in agony Labor Day weekend...on vacation 😭😭 I am super happy to be able to work out at a gym. More importantly, I am happiest about being able to exercise again. I hadn’t exercised regularly in years prior to surgery. Since surgery, I get some sort of cardio exercise 6 days a week. I am excited for my dinner tonight😬 I had a super yummy salad last night and I get to have it again tonight! Will try to remember to post pics in Food Before and After thread tonight. It was pretty much gone before I thought about it last night🤦‍♀️ As a long time foodie, I am so grateful I can still get excited about good food!

    Frequency of meals

My surgeon and nut encourage 5 small meals per day. I usually have three meals and one snack, sometimes two. I always have some sort of protein shake/smoothie for breakfast or I will not hit my protein goals. My “meals “ are typically around 150 kcals. Some days I am just hungry and eat more. Some days I am not very hungry and I just get enough food in to hit protein goals. @drawingdami mentioned intuitive eating, which I try to follow. Our bodies are pretty good at letting us know what we need if we listen closely. There is a great book called Intuitive Eating. Might be worth a look since you are not getting what you need from your medical professionals.

    Crappy Dietician

That would be so hard to watch and say nothing. I am fortunate to not only have a medical background and education, but my dietician is great. She is all about balance with some healthy carbs, watching fat, and mostly about getting protein first. For the record, she is a co-worker in the clinic where I work. I wish I could let your friend and @Keatsy have a session with her. She is my food therapist 😂😂

    Favorite Grocery Products

No Aldi’s where I live😭😭😭 Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are my places where I do 95% of my shopping.

    Smoothie Recipes

Half a banana, sliced and frozen (I weigh each banana half before I freeze it and write the weight on the wax paper I wrap it in) 0.5-1 cup water mixed with a scoop of GenePro 1 cup fresh, raw, spinach .5 tablespoon of chia seeds sweetener to taste ice cubes to taste It is kind of boring on flavor, but I also don’t want a ton of carbs. It doesn’t taste bad, just sort of blah. It ends up being about 150 kcals and 30+ grams protein. I need to follow this thread for more ideas.

    Cranky & Sick of Headaches

Eat the fruit. My nut is great and when I showed her my food log, she suggested I eat more fruit. Done! Had a pretty big workout today and those blackberries are yum! 😋

    Cranky & Sick of Headaches

What is wrong with having a bit of fruit if that helps your headache? But my nut and my surgeon include fruit in their guidelines (they are not affiliated with each other). I make my smoothies with a half a banana and will have another small piece of fruit later in the day. Today it was 7 delicious blackberries. In fact, I think I will have another few now. 😊 Hope things start to get better for you!

    Food Before and After Photos

It was delish! And it looked so good I had to include a pic. 😂 Marinated for 20-30 mins in lime juice, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, and salt. Hubby was happy too and had four tacos. I made his creme sauce with mayo and sour cream (plus same spices as mine), and he used corn tortillas. 🤤🤤 Btw, I am obsessed with cedar planking fish right now. No fish smell in the house and so yummy 😋

    Calories Week 6, 7, etc.

I am about 10 weeks out and consistently eat 600 kcals per day, and some days up to 800. I get 60-75 G protein per day. Looking at everyone else’s intake, I guess I am eating a lot, but my weight loss is steady and I feel great. I exercise 30-60 minutes per day and typically get 10k steps per day. I have not had any stalls yet.

    Food Before and After Photos

Fish tacos with cedar plank grilled halibut, creme sauce made with low fat Greek yogurt, lots of fresh veggies, avocado slice, homemade pico de Gallo, and a bit of cotija cheese on jicama wraps. Two tacos about 180 kcals. I ate all of it. I don’t know how, but I did 😬🤷‍♀️

    Pooping

I am two months post-op. I take a stool softener twice daily AND have a cup of Smooth Move tea most nights. I tried everything and this is what works the most consistently for me. I go pretty much everyday and feel best when I do. 😬

    Food Before and After Photos

I am somewhere in between food fetish and I don’t care of @ms.sss and @GreenTealael...more like @Sophie7713😐 Before surgery, I was a bit obsessed with recipes, cooking, and EATING 🤦🏼‍♀️ Now, I want to cook, but it is less satisfying, because things don’t taste as good, or it gives me a belly ache. Hoping to make some photo worthy fish tacos tonight, and then I probably won’t cook again until next weekend 😂 I still LOVE obsessing over menus and drooling over everyone’s beautiful food pics here! ps. I LOVED @Sophie7713’s color block dress!

    Give it me straight!

The bad: Like others mentioned, gas and constipation. 🙄 Also, feeling sick and having pain after eating. This can happen with food intolerances and also if I eat too fast or too much. But... I have so much more energy, which is so far my favorite thing about having this surgery. Just having energy to do things again has changed my life dramatically for the better. 😬😬

    Eating

I’m two months out and puked up chicken breast two days ago. I do much better with thighs. I think the breast is too dry and I plan to avoid it for now. It is just too uncomfortable until it comes back up. 🤢 Ground meats were much easier earlier out. My favorites in soft foods were refried beans and scallops.

New week! What are you thankful for? - 9/7/20 to 9/13/20

I am thankful I still lost weight on my mini vacation. I did eat more than I have been and exercised less due to tweaking my back last week. I am thankful my back is feeling better so I may be able to exercise this week. I am thankful for my dogs. They were so much fun to watch play on the Oregon beaches last week.

    Surgery done today

I feel your pain. I still struggle sometimes with solid proteins. At exactly two months post-op I threw up some chicken breast. I have to eat solid protein very slowly. Fish like scallops and fresh salmon (not overcooked) definitely went down better in the first month along with refried beans. I also tolerated meat substitutes better than meats the first month. Basically, if the meat is somewhat dry, it is uncomfortable to eat. It does continue to get better. Hang in there!

5 days post op feeling tired

The first week is the worst. Didn’t have energy for much, but did try to walk around the block once a day. I honestly did not nap much, but I did junk out on TV. Focus on protein, water, walking, and resting. That is what your body needs to heal. and remember...it gets better! 😊

What are you thankful for this week? - 8/31/2020

I am thankful for my upcoming five day weekend and mini vacation. I am thankful for my weight loss. I am thankful for all of the energy I have post-op.

    Food Before and After Photos

Lunch/left-overs from dinner last night. My take on Philly cheesesteak stuffed peppers using Hatch green chili’s, stuffed with sautéed thin sliced beef, mushrooms, and onions, topped with a bit of reduced fat Mexican cheese blend. Left-overs from dinner last night. Very tasty 😋 Ate all of it. About 200 kcals and 19 G protein.
  24. I’m glad you take something. Like I said though, if this keeps happening, you should contact one of your providers. Hope you feel better!
