Getting really close
WishMeSmaller replied to Megan831's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have any second thoughts, as I am an expert yo-yo dieter with almost 30 years of experience. I regret not considering surgery sooner, since clearly, I was not able to do it on my own. I spent the two weeks of my pre-op diet trying to focus on the post-op diet and permanent life style changes coming up. The focus really helped calm me down and I was a rock at the hospital by myself. I chatted and joked with my nurse. They took me back to the operating room and I said goodnight to everyone...then woke up in recovery. My only true pain, was in recovery when I first woke up. In retrospect, I understand I was having stomach spasms, but at the time it was just agony. The nurse gave me some pain meds and I was good from there. I took pain meds the first couple of days, mostly to prevent pain rather than because I was in pain. After day three, I took only Tylenol. Spend this time gaining focus and centering yourself. You will do great! Enjoy the journey! -

What are you doing to prepare?

I have used the Baritastic app since day one, about three months ago, and love it. Great for monitoring everything. Good luck! -
Weight Loss and Probiotics
WishMeSmaller replied to peachadee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For the constipation, you could try Smooth Move tea. Works like a charm for me. My nutritionist suggested having a cup of the tea morning and night. I have a cup most nights, and voila...BM next morning. I tried a probiotic for a month and it did exactly nothing for me. Hope everything works out (literally) for you! -
Mexican Food

I ordered a side of refried beans from a Mexican restaurant about two weeks out. It was 2-3 meals for me. -

Having lower Protein per day
WishMeSmaller replied to dal101's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I consistently got the recommended 60 plus grams of protein for my first 2.5 months post-op, and at my first post-op lab check was found to be protein deficient. Follow your surgeon’s recommendation. If I had been consuming less than the 60 grams per day, my protein deficiency would have been worse. Now I have the daily struggle of trying to consume 80-90. It is not easy without reverting to multiple protein shakes per day. Hope all goes well for you! -

Congratulations! You look amazing! PS is give you a perfect figure! How exciting! -
Did/Does your surgeon have you on a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) post-operatively? Mine had me continue my Nexium for about 6 weeks and I had about a week early on where I was on double dosing. Either way, you should probably contact your surgeon and let them know about your continuing difficulties.

Today is my 3 month surgiversary! I ended up in a stall the last week and a half or so, but I have taken it in stride knowing my body is just trying to catch up with a 60 pound weight loss in 3.5 months including the pre-op diet. I was really hoping to get to ONEderland for my 3 month, but I know it is in my near future. Cool stuff since surgery: I have been working out a ton, which I couldn’t do before. My fitness level has increased so much since the beginning. It takes a lot more to get my heart rate up, and my recovery is fast. I weigh less than my husband for the first time in our 11 year relationship. For the record, he is 5-6 inches taller than me and his BMI since I met him has been 23-26. This one is double edged. I have loaded 3 giant contractor trash bags with clothes that are too big. Unfortunately, this means I have nothing to wear, and I don’t want to buy much this far from my goal. I have gone from a plus size 20-22, to a regular women’s 14-16. So happy I did this surgery to become healthy! Loving my new life!

Last night’s dinner. Kind of boring. Grilled chicken thigh, which I just season with salt and pepper, and some roasted green beans. I do some of these chicken thighs almost every week and take them to work for lunch. Simple and tasty. -
3 weeks post op sleeve gastrectomy
WishMeSmaller replied to Bluz2316's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fairly early out, I had a small (9 grams weighed on my food scale) of extra dark (low sugar content) chocolate. I did not die. I did not feel like I was going to die. There does not seem to be any lasting ill effects from doing so. Strangely, I rarely crave it at this point, but do have my 81% cocoa chocolate bar in the refrigerator just in case I want a small piece. I agree with the other posters, that it has the potential to get you on a slippery slope so soon after surgery. Be aware of the dangers (dumping, poor weight loss, increased cravings, knowing you can get away with a small piece so maybe a bigger piece is ok too, etc.) and proceed at your own risk. Good luck! -
I am also pro-scale, and like Arabesque, I find it motivates me. I recently purchased a smart scale, and I wish I had it from day one so I could see the changes in my body fat/body composition. I am currently in a stall, but I only weigh myself once a day, in the morning, and only do the body fat thing a couple of times per week. It really depends on you. Will you overthink the numbers, or feel motivated by the numbers? Only you can make that distinction. If you have one and it is making you crazy, put it away. Pre-op, I made my husband hide it from me😂 Good luck to you!

I am just about 3 months out and my labs show I have not been getting enough protein, even though I have been pretty consistently getting 60-70 g per day with 600 kcals per day. I need to bump up protein to 80 + g per day, so my kcals are going to be around 700-800 per day. I am working out pretty heavily, so we will see how this goes with my weight loss. I have been averaging around 15 pounds per month since surgery, and lost 15 pounds on the pre-op diet. While I don’t want to slow my weight loss, I also don’t want to trade my obesity related health issues for malnutrition issues.

How many meds/vitamins do you take daily?
WishMeSmaller replied to LAJ23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I started my pre-op diet I stopped my metformin (PCP approved). Post-op I stopped one of my blood pressure meds (surgeon instructions). About one month post-op I stopped my nexium (surgeon instructions). I had GERD for years, so had bypass rather than sleeve. I am going to discuss stopping cholesterol medication at this point as my labs look great, and a recheck in a few months will show if I still need it. I figure I will always be on one blood pressure med, as I started it almost 20 years ago when I was 165 pounds and fit. I have a follow up today with surgeon’s office to review my first post-op labs. I have already reviewed them so I know I am no longer diabetic, and my cholesterol is perfect. We will see if I need any adjustments to my vitamins or diet. I have some “anomaly’s” in my iron and protein panels. Not sure how the surgeon’s office will interpret them. 🤷♀️ -
July 2020 Surgery anyone?
WishMeSmaller replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay! So glad it looks like something that might work for you. For a month or so, they were my primary exercise and I really saw an increase in my fitness from doing them. 😊 -
July 2020 Surgery anyone?
WishMeSmaller replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out walking and gradually increased my speed and distance. Then I started doing Leslie Sansone walk at home videos on YouTube. I was also needing low impact due to ankle and knee pain/issues. Now I I’m doing high intensity interval training (HIIT) on an elliptical at the gym for 30-60 minutes 4 times per week (still low impact). I also do about 30 minutes of strength training 2-3 times per week at the gym. I still do the Leslie Sansone videos (30 ish minutes) once or twice per week. It is my goal to also incorporate more outdoor activities as I go along, like hiking, cross country and downhill skiing, etc. Last week I went for an almost 5 mile hike. I still am avoiding high impact activities, but have incorporated some moderate impact activity. One of my knees is still causing me issues, but everything else feels so much better! Eventually I will have to address the problem knee, but right now I am keeping my head in the sand on that one 🤦♀️ I was eating about 600 kcal the first two months, but have recently been increasing to 700-800 due to activity levels and recent labs. I typically get 70 G protein per day. Walking is a great low impact, starter exercise. The walk at home videos are great to keep low impact, while getting a good cardio workout. If you have the means, getting a fitness tracker like Apple Watch or FitBit can help. I bought an Apple Watch while I was home recovering from surgery. It has really helped motivate me as I can see my improvements in fitness with heart rate and activity level every day. I hope some of those ideas help. Good luck to you! -
I am so excited that today I weighed less than my husband for the first time in our 11 year relationship! He was about 20 pounds lighter when we met, and I was 5-10 pounds lighter than my current weight. He is also about 6 inches taller than me 🤦🏼♀️ I am thankful for the ability to log over 7 hours of exercise, according to my Apple Watch, last week. I could never have done that 3 months ago. I am thankful for my neighbors. My next door neighbor hosted a neighborhood party last night and it just reaffirmed what an amazing neighborhood I get to live in. I am also thankful for all the support and ideas provided from everyone on this site.
