  1. Happy 36th Birthday mphsmommy!

  2. 3 years has passed since you registered at LapBandTalk! Happy 3rd Anniversary mphsmommy!

  3. Our clinic says you absolutely can't gain weight before the surgery. We have to do a two week pre op diet to shrink our liver, but they haven't said "you have to loose ____ amount of weight before surgery". I know they are very concerned about our liver being fatty and not being able to access the stomach easily.
  4. Thanks for the great info!!
  5. I can't wait to join this thread!! I have about a year and a half to go though. LOL

When did your period come back?

I've always been irregular too and it's nothing to go 6 months without my period. When dh was in Iraq and I lost about 30lbs, my period became as regular as it's ever been (32 day cycles). I was at 230 then. I think every woman is different though.

    Consultation August 8th!!

My consultation was 3 hours long. First the checked my weight, height, and blood pressure. They already had my medical records, so that wasn't an issue. The first hour I had to watch a video from Discovery Health about the surgery (very good video). The second hour was the surgeon telling me about the surgery, the risks, and answering questions. The third hour was the nurse going over paperwork and all the things I have to do before I have surgery (like Nutritionist, Pshychologist, bloodwork, Support Groups, Educational Classes, and much more). We signed some paperwork during that time too. HTH
  9. I thought I'd start working on getting my weight off before surgery, so I started a food journal today. There's no wonder I weigh what I do, I eat too much. I want a snack every two hours or so and in the evenings between lunch and supper I get the munchies bad. I feel hungry, but not. Ugh, why can't this be easy? Any way to help keep me out of the kitchen and away from Snacks? Here's what I have ate today (which is a mild day for me): EAS Protein shake 110 Cal. 1 Orange 90 Cal 2 crab cakes 400 Cal for both cakes Cottage cheese 90 Cal Saltine Cracker ? 1 chocolate chip cookie ? 1 cheese stick 80 Cal 1 box yogurt covered raisins 120 Cal

    Tri-Care

I have Tricare and don't think I'll have a problem getting approved. I am over the 100lb over quota and they are doing several surgeries a week here on base. I hope to have my surgery at the end of August or first of Sept.. I'm currently waiting for our Biariactric Nurse to call in our stats to the Lab, Nutritionist, and Pshy. so I can call and make my appointments for them. I had my consult with the surgeon last Monday and she still hasn't done it. I'm probably going to go talk to her tomorrow to see what the hold up is.
  11. I have the same issue. The ESA and Atkins isn't as bad, but if I mix my own protein drink and use milk I get nausea. I used to drink one every morning and never had a problem. Now I need to eat a little something with it to keep from getting sick.

    Motivator, buddy, mentor.....

Where are you in NC? Dh is military, so we are moving constantly. We recently moved from NY to NC also. We were stationed at Fort Drum about and hour and a half North of Syracuse. We are now stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, but NC is our home state.

    Light Crab Cake Recipe?

That sounds good too, can I get that recipe.
  14. Anyone have one? I know I remember someone talking about making them. I just tried to make them and they were more like a crab omelet (too much egg). I used crab, parmesian chesse, a little light mayo, little bread crumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, and 1 egg. I've never made them before and I was just throwing stuff together cause I was craving it. I need a better recipe!! LOL

UHG!!! The hell our returning soldiers go through

I am so sorry your son has to live with this for the rest of his life. My husband has also served two tours in Iraq and is heading back in Jan.. His first tour was easy, only 4 months and their job was to go bring back all the units equipment. His second tour wasn't so easy, he was with 10th Mountain and he was gone for 15 months. He was out on patrol several days a week and had several incidences before an IED blew up his truck. He got a concusion and torn ligament in his shoulder. Thankfully it was nothing more than that!! He deals with the affects of it every day too. He still gets migraines from the concusion and has to take Imitrex shots when he feels them coming on. He has good day and bad days. He lost a very close friend to an IED when he was home on R & R, so he feels extremely guilty that he wasn't there to do something or just to see him one last time. They recently did an IED briefing here at his new unit and he couldn't handle it, he had to walk out. Thankfully his commander knew what had happened and walked out with him and they talked. He came home so upset that day, so I had to help him pick up the peices. It is so hard for these soldiers!! I know there are thousands of others just like my husband that have to live daily with what the saw and dealt with over there. We have a daily reminder on our entertainment center that I put together for dh. I got a shadow box and put a piece of shrapnal from the IED, a picture of his blown up truck, his Purple Heart certificate, his actual Purple Heart medal, and a picture of him when he was awarded the Purple Heart. He loved it, it means alot to him!!
