    Tricare Approval?

My PCM is here on base and we have a Biariactric Center at the hospital here on base. I have only heard good things about all three surgeons in the Biaractric department here. Two of the surgeons are military and one is contracted through the government.
  2. Need to get some ideas. Can you do tomato soup too or is that a no no?

    Tricare Approval?

I'm not sure about the fills. I know here at Fort Bragg, they do the fills at Womack (the base hospital), so it's covered. I don't know what the case is if you are seeing a civialian doctor.

    Tricare Approval?

I too have Tricare. I saw my PCM today for a referral and he said they go by your BMI. He said anything 40 and over is a candidate, and anything from 35 -40 with 3 comorbidities is a candidate.

    Crab cakes anyone???

Every crab cake I have ever had is loaded with butter or some kind of grease. I would imagine it would upset your stomach, but honestly I don't know.
  6. Oh, I have so many. One of my friends moms (she was a mean old woman who was big too) said to me "my gosh, you are as big as that door". My own mother said to me one time when we were painting "don't off that ladder, you'd put a hole in the floor". She has always been big too. Dh has gotten in a ton of fights over people saying I was a "fatass" or something stupid like that.
  7. Well, see. I voted yea, but it really depends on what my legs look like when I loose. I use to wear them and i had great legs. You would more likely see me in a cute little skort with some high heeled strappy sandals on (even at my weight now).
  8. All I know is liquid diet. I am still in the beginning phase of this journey, so I haven't gotten the list of things "to do" before surgery yet. I go for my referral appointment today, so hopefully I'll have my input meeting in the next week or two.

    Eggrolls ..

I too was gonna suggest baking them. They aren't AS good as fried, but so much better for ya. I make mine with just cooked cabbage and boiled chicken. YUM!!

    Fluffy ... wtf FLUFFY??

My 6 year old never says I'm fat, she says mommy's soft and fluffy. That doesn't bother me, but it would if an adult said I was fluffy. LOL
  11. From what I was told (by other pre op patients), we have to do a two week liquid diet while we are doing the classes just to make sure we can do it and then we do it again two weeks prior to surgery.

    Protein Shakes?!?!?!?

I too have been wondering about them. Alot of the gastric bypass patients here drink the Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks because of the high protein. I just looked them up online and they are high calories too. I don't want a 600 calorie drink for breakfast!! The only Protein Shake I have ever had that I liked (that isn't chalky or gritty) is the ones from "The Firm". I still have a few in there, but I'm not sure they are high enough in protein as they should be.

    Change in body scent

Thanks for the heads up, I had no clue this happens. I know my dh, he would never say anything (unless it was obviously because I wasn't showering daily). I have plenty of Bath and Body Works stuff on hand, so I should be good.

To Cut or Not To Cut

Cute cute cute!! My hair is one thing I wanna change when I start loosing weight. Right now it's down to my bra on my back. Dh HATES short hair on me, so that isn't really an option. I think I'm gonna get it layed and change the color though (I'm sure it won't be long till the gray hair starts showing up anyway).

    Newly banded

You are doing great, keep it up!!

    Training for a triathlon...

I can't wait till I am in good enough shape to do something like that!! Dh has been in several Army marathons, maybe we can do one together one day. :grouphug: I think it's great you are doing this, let us know how it goes!!
  17. My husband is 100% supportive of me having the surgery, but I don't think he thinks I will go through with it deep down. He would never say that too me, but I just don't think he thinks I'll end up doing it. The other day I was talking about how I will be a completely different person when he comes home from Iraq and he was just like "ok". Maybe he hasn't grasped how this surgery will change my life. I don't know, I just don't understand him sometimes. LOL
  18. Glad I won't have to worry about that, I can't even stand the smell of beer!!
  19. Wow, you look amazing!! I want that body, but I have a LONG way to get to get there!

    Snack Ideas?

You can find it in any grocery store. I've found it either where the lunch meat is or with the seafood. Love me some crab meat!! I like to throw it in the pan with a little cajun seasoning on it.
  21. They are much more noticeably different with your arms up, not hardly noticable at all with your arms down. I think they look great, BUT I know if I were in your shoes, I'd want them redone too. Do what makes you feel better!
  22. We had discussed gastric bypass a couple years ago, but then a girl on base at Fort Drum had it done and she ended up dieing because her organs shut down on her after the surgery. She left behind a young daughter and unfortunately her husband was in Iraq when she died. That completely freaked dh out and he said no way you are having gastric bypass. For several months now I have been thinking about Lap Band surgery, but kept it to myself cause I was scared he would be against it too. I finally broke down and told him about a month and a half ago that I wanted to do it and the first thing he said was "You know I love you the way you are right?". Of course I know that and I told him it's something I wanna do for myself, to feel better about myself and to be a healthy mother and wife. After I explained it to him, he said he was fine with me having it if it's what I want, he said he don't want me doing it for him. So, he has been great and watched dd while I have gone to the seminar and class. I just don't think it's sunk in that I will loose weight and keep it off this time.
  23. Maybe that's what it is. He's seen me loose and gained it all back so many times he doesn't think it will really work. I was at 220 when we started dating, so he has never seen me smaller than that.

    Onederland!

I don't even remember what wonderland looks like. I remember being 200 in 9th grade though. I'm sure it will be a huge emotional time for me when I do get there!! Congrats on your accomplishment!!!
  25. They make me rethink having the band. They are so PRO gastric bypass here. They do the band too, but they prefer the bypass. They keep pushing that you loose so much faster with bypass than with the band. They say if you want the band, they'll do the band, but gosh I just feel pressured to do the bypass. I don't wanna do the bypass because 1) I wanna have another kids 2) I don't wanna be dependant on Vitamins for the rest of my life 3) I don't want my stomach actually cut up 4) I don't wanna worry about getting really sick later on and having a hard time because of the bypass 5) I don't wanna get to a size 1, I just wanna be healthy and if healthy is a size 12 then that's what I wanna be MY ONLY reason for even thinking about bypass is the rate of the weight loss!! Please remind me why YOU chose the band over bypass.
