Just Got my June Surgery Date!
California Guy replied to RicaShanea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
RicaShanea, You didn't say which surgery you're getting. I hope you have a successful WLS and safe recovery! It takes a lot of will power to follow the diet and make the nutritional changes required. Keep posting here on the forum and you'll get support from this community. -
My Surgeon gave me a choice to choose my surgery: Sleeve vs. Bypass vs. RNY
California Guy replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had occasional GERD. Surgeon did a repair with mesh as he did the sleeve in 2013. Acid reflux was almost eliminated with only two incidents. In my case, I'll only get acid reflux if I eat then immediately lay down to sleep. There are certain foods that produce acid. When I reduce or avoid them, I do well. I initially requested a DS but the surgeon said the sleeve was the first half of the DS and we'd see how I do with that alone. Earlier this year, I went back for the DS. I was given many options and selected the SADI-S. I picked this newest form of DS being safer with fewer potential complications. I was not a severe case at 5'10" 300 lbs. I wanted the most effective WLS aid to get out of the obese classification. -
Feel So Good Part 2
California Guy replied to SlimChickadee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Earlier this year, months before my most recent surgery, I was on a standard diet with good weight loss results. I was controlling high blood pressure with two different medications. When I got up from sitting to standing and walking, I fainted. I checked my blood pressure right after and it was 112 / 69. This is healthy for most people, but too low for my body which was used to high blood pressure for a long time. My Doctor combined the medicine to one pill and reduced the dosage in half. I've been able to maintain my blood pressure at the upper limit of healthy levels with one pill each morning. I've had blood work done several times this year. I have never had any blood sugar issues or diabetes concerns. As I lose more weight I hope to be able to reduce or eliminate my blood pressure medication. -
Just got the Revision from a 2013 LSG to DS 10 days ago. I'm recovering well and seeing excellent results. Everything went better than expected. Just graduated to Puree stage today after four weeks of a liquid diet. The diet was satisfying and I never went hungry. Now I'm adding some new foods to my diet for this 2 week stage. In these COVID-19 times, the hospital does not allow visitors so no family could visit during my 5 day stay. I had four other required procedures that week for a total of 3 surgeries over 4 days. I've seen a lot of great, relevant information on this forum. I look forward to getting through the journey with all of you.

New Member, Revised!
California Guy replied to California Guy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm from San Diego and live in Houston now. Dr. Ricardo Bonnor first did my VSG in 2013 then my 2020 DS revision. I have great insurance so they covered all my needs. The most I pay out of pocket for all medical bills is $5k each year. -
When researching my revision, I remember seeing a 5 year period was required by my carrier between WLS.

Moving to Norway right after surgery, scared of doing post-op diet in a foreign country
California Guy replied to MoominMan's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm a picky eater too. I got through the pre/post op diet just fine, twice. Once for the Sleeve and once for the bypass. My first two weeks post op included 3 protein shakes a day, water, chicken or beef broth, non-fat yogurt, sugar free popsicles, sugar free pudding prepared from a powder mix, and sugar free sports drinks like gatorade. Since you only follow this diet for two weeks, you could pack a box of supplies and bring them with you. My second two weeks include eggs, string cheese, applesauce, bananas, mashed potatoes, yogurt, creamy peanut butter. I also make home made turkey chili and puree it. During this phase you can have everything from the Liquids only phase, but I was ready for new food. I was told if you can get protein from natural sources, it is better than getting it from protein shakes. The last phase will be soft foods which allow more meats, cereals, toast, pasta, vegetables, and cheeses. You should get a list from your nutritionist, but there are several informative lists online. Search for a Post Op bariatric surgery diet. You'll want to purchase a large supply of bariatric vitamins online as those are usually difficult to fine in stores. My Doctor asked me to wait two weeks post OP to start vitamins to avoid nausea. I wish you good luck with your surgery, travels and studies. Sounds like you are really getting a new start this year. -

Yeah, the original plan was one surgery, three procedures in one day. They fixed a hernia and removed gall bladder. They had to stop there and program two corrective procedures before I could get the gastric bypass. Both surgeons took great care of me. I was glad I was able to complete the DS, especially during the same hospital stay.
