    It happened- I got canceled

I'm sorry to hear this. This happened to me last year. I was like 3 days or so out from my appointment and it was cancelled because of covid and then again because they wanted clearance from a cardiologist before they put me under anesthesia. It's so heartbreaking. I gained weight back and then it was almost cancelled again because it was much higher than my starting weight. If i was any more than 10 lbs over my initial weigh in, they'd cancel it the day of... like someone stated earlier, use this for fuel. Use this time to try to work on and hone your post-surgery skills. I hope this all works out for you!

    Depression and RNY

i ate jello pretty soon after my surgery (it was okay to eat and on the list) and i think i ate like 2-3 bites and was miserable for the rest of the night. slow and steady for sure. getting water in feels like a full time job when you're first out of surgery. It will take time and i get the buyer's remorse as well. It's difficult to feel like you did the right thing when you're hurting and can't rely on anything (esp food) to cope. Sometimes some mindfulness helps me and reminding myself why i did it would help me power through some of the earlier stages.
  3. The dumping keeps me honest, but I have found that some things don't cause me to dump. It's not a good feeling when you're all sweaty, your stomach hurts and you have gas that you can't trust 100%. I find though, that eating anything super greasy is way worse. i try to avoid anything greasy and anything with a lot of sugar in it (super vanilla-y things really hurt my stomach). It's really not as bad as people think, but you have to absolutely stop when you're full because any sort of over-full feeling is so horrible feeling. I truly avoid that with all my might. even if I have 2 bites left on my plate, it stays there because i'd rather waste that bit of food than hate myself for the next hour and feel sick. Honestly, I chose the bypass over the sleeve because of the heartburn and the potential to gain weight back easier (from my understanding/observation) but def talk with your doctor about this. I'm sure you'll figure out what's best for you.

    What was your tipping point?

I would say that my tipping point was losing about 70 lbs on keto, and then regaining all (plus more) back and seeing just how much better i felt when i was doing what was right. I know that keto wasnt sustainable and after talking w/my therapist and reading online, i decided to pursue surgery. i know it wouldnt be an easy way out, but it has made me return to how much better i felt and know that i can keep going. i just moved apartments and i managed to pack and move most of my person stuff and i didnt feel like i needed a week to recoup. and you had mentioned eating out. It's soooo difficult for me bc i enjoy eating out with my friends (esp now that covid restrictions are being lifted and we're all vaccinated) but i still have to be wary. Order apps for entrees (or find a good friend that would split their entree with you!) and maybe a side of veggies. Order only water and absolutely STOP when you're full. i get these weird hiccups when i'm full and they're very loud and embarassing so i try to avoid pushing myself.. plus, it can always be lunch the next day!
  5. I definitely don't regret surgery, at all. I wish I had done it sooner. And like others have said, it does depend on your diet. I have had McD's, and peanut butter cups.. no red meat bc I didn't eat much before surgery, and am iffy about trying anything beyond maybe a burger. Do I miss my diet dr pepper or mcdonald's sprite? sure. I'm human and enjoyed them (for real, tho.. mc'd sprite is out of this world, ya'll). However, I find myself a lot happier and still tweaking my relationship with food, so it's getting better. You can still have what you liked before, but instead of 4 peanut butter cups, you can have 1, and still enjoy it. I just hit 100lbs down and i'll take that over any of those old foods anytime. It's a personal decision and not one to make lightly. Just do what's best for you. Life can be so much more than food.. which has been so amazing to discover.

    Psych Meds After Bypass

So, this was a concern for me, as I have major depressive disorder and have severe anxiety issues. After surgery, I stayed on the same medications, however, I had to change my anti-depressant from extended release, 1x a day to 2x a day, instant release and increase the mgs. It works a lot better now. Just keep in touch with the doctor that prescribes your medications and just do what you gotta do. My psych nurse said that she wishes i could be on the extended release, but w/the surgery, it doesn't work the same.

    Clothing Problems! What to do?

i was lucky and had some clothes from when i lost about 70lbs a year before surgery.. but for the "inbetween" times when i just need something that fits, i go to walmart. i found a nice pair of jeans for $5 there. and i agree w/the belt sentiment.. but i know they can be uncomfortable, so anything with drawstrings help too. goodwill is also a good place to try your luck. or even tjmaxx bc they can have some good sales.

    Hair loss

at around 3-4 mo after surgery, i started to lose my hair.. and i had long hair, down to the mid of my back. i cut it above my shoulders (first time in yyeeeears) because i didnt want to keep dealing with the long hairs everywhere. im 8 months out and its slowed down a good bit.. but i still need to take biotin because i want to start growing it out again and i have a lot of baby hairs from where its starting to grow back. it's a small price to pay, though. just make sure you take ur vitamins and get ur protein in.

    1st month stall?

So I'm 4 weeks out from surgery as of yesterday. I lost about 13 lbs my first two weeks and now, I'm only down ~7 more lbs. At my 2 week follow up, my docs wanted me to double that, by the time of my 6 week follow up (from 304 to 278). I've been hovering around 298-297 since my 2 week follow up and I can't understand why. I honestly don't eat (never hungry/get full quickly) and walk at least 30 mins a day w/my doggo. I've built my stamina up from being able to walk only 10-15 a day. My clothes fit better, and I'm losing inches, but the lbs aren't going away. Would anybody have an idea why this might be happening? I stick to my diet, and don't eat anything I shouldn't and try to get my water intake in. I admit, I struggle with my protein intake because I just cannot stand protein shakes and I can only manage to eat 1x a day. If anyone has any advice/information, I'd love to hear it. I'm slowly adapting to this new lifestyle and I don't have a lot of people to talk to about this. Thanks!

    Hairless after surgery

i experience hair shedding. i got my super long hair cut just above my shoulders about 3 months after surgey so i wouldnt be so annoyed w/all my hair everywhere. getting protein in definitely helps. i notice when i'm not getting my protein, my hair can come out a lot more (not clumps.. just like brushing i end up w/a lot in the brush)

    100 pounds!!!!

congrats!! what a fantastic milestone!! keep at it!
  12. congrats on ur surgery!! and a lot of people experience this stall. it's your body catching up with all the changes. just keep doing what you're doing and give your body a chance to catch up. keep doing what you're doing w/your protein and doing the best you can. you'll continue to lose.

    Surgery in my 20’s

I was only 31 when I had surgery and I was considering it a couple years before that -- I wish i had done it sooner. So long as you can show your history with failed diets, I don't think that age is a huge factor-- they just want to know that you've tried other things, from what i understand. good luck!

    2 week stall... HELP

girl, you'll have stalls every so often -- they're normal. its like your body is taking a quick break from losing so much. i stay on one weight for a weekish, and then i drop 4-5 the next.. i feel like women's bodies are so much less straightforward than men's.. just stay on routine.. it'll be the best thing.
  15. likely a symptom of dumping -- i know that sometimes i can eat a piece of candy and be ok.. and other times i feel like i just need to lay down and wait for the sweats to leave. pineapple does it to me, as well. I wouldn't panic too much, but if you feel like you need to be seen for diabetes, go for it. it might ease your mind a bit.

    2 week stall... HELP

dont stress -- it's seriously frustrating, but it'll pass. I hit mine the first few weeks and i started to panic.. however, your body will start to lose weight. the first few weeks are a lot of water weight from surgery and such.. just keep doing what you're doing and you'll see some results.

    Weight loss stalls

90 lbs in 5 months isn't anything to balk at. that's fantastic!! and i understand the feeling of "i should be losing more!" but your body is doing just what it should. it's still adjusting to this new lifestyle and all the changes. you're 5 mo into a new lifestyle after spending years in another -- give yourself time. you're losing almost 20lbs a month.. that's fantastic. also, try to not compare yourself to others on this forum. i tend to do that and it makes me upset.. however, you got this. just keep at your pace and you'll hit your goal. also, if you're afraid that you're stalling, change up your diet to include less carbs/more protein.. or just increase your intensity with your workouts. when i get back on track w/my diet, i tend to lose quicker.

    New Tastebuds

i couldn't stand protein shakes (except the cookies and cream premier one) after surgery and they tasted like garbage.. i gagged on them.. which was weird bc i loved them before surgery. i find my tolerance to spice to be a lot less, which sucks w/the 30-30-30 rule. and sometimes if i have a real sugar-treat, it doesn't taste the same.. not as good as i remember.
  19. I feel that. I've always been told to not waste food and to clean my plate (cue lifelong issues with food and feeling guilty) and since i was bypassed, I have to be okay with stopping and leaving food on my plate. When I make food, I put it on a paper plate and let my dog eat the rest (no complaints from her) It's weird because i sometimes have to tell myself, outloud, to stop eating and that i can always have it tomorrow.
  20. ^^^^^^^^^^^ THIIIIIIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I have been big my entire life and i've tried EVERYTHING and was afraid that bariatric surgery would be the same way. So far, this is working the best for me (bypassed in July) and I feel more confident with this than I did with anything else. Sometimes our minds are our own worst enemy.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

i finally hit the 50lb lost after surgery goal! i'm down 52 now, and i had my 3 mo follow up w/my doctor. she said that the second half of the year is harder to lose weight than the first.. she only expects me to lose 100(ish) my first year. i plan to blow her away and to do more than that. i travelled out of state and had to quarantine until my negative rona test (just got the results today - negative!) to go back to the gym. I've really missed it and have enjoyed going back. i notice a lot more strength than when i last went.. each time im getting stronger and lifting more weight than before.
  22. with puree stage, I did ricotta bakes -- i made them in 1/4 cup size and would be lucky to get 1 down. If I did, my brain would be like "ANOTHA ONE!" and by the time i would fix a second, I would feel full. It sounds more like a mental thing with your wanting more than a physical. Give yourself time to adjust to your new body and your new mindset. Try to eat slower if you find yourself wanting more. I also had refried beans, apple sauce with cinnamon, puree egg salad (eggs, a bit of dijon mustard and a bit of mayo or greek yogurt). Pinterest was a life saver for me w/recipes.. greek yogurt w/flavored protein powder, jello protein shots..

    Anyone go into surgery alone?

I had to go in alone w/covid. My friend dropped me off and visited me that day (we were allowed 1 visitor at a time, and they had to wear a mask and stay in the room) and another friend picked me up. I put my brother down as the contact bc I knew he would answer his phone to an unknown number before my parents. I also had my phone in the waiting area.. they let me have it right up until I was wheeled back. It helped me a lot.. I was fine without people.. I did my pre-op journey alone so I felt it was symbolic to do my surgery alone as well. And the nurses and staff didn't say anything.. and I'd ask if you can have your phone so you can be connected to your support system.

I Lost My WLS Super Powers

this is something ive been scared of since i joined this forum -- regaining weight. when i did my pre-op class, there was a woman who was going back through the process and it's .. scary. i do tend to recognize my unhealthy habits now better than before.. I managed to lose 70 lbs from keto 2 years ago and gained all, and more of it back. im almost 50lbs down from surgery, but the stalls come so easily. i know that this is a lifelong commitment.. i understand that.. and it's hard to see much further than the end of the day for me sometimes. But this forum is a good place to be reminded that life doesn't end when the weight is gone..

    Feeling down lately

I agree with @It's time. -- we all have good and bad days. 100 lbs isn't anything to balk at. 1 year ago, you might have been stoked to lose 100 lbs. It's so much harder to look at where you want to be, in comparison to where you were. I see myself as losing almost 50lbs since surgery.. and i think "holy crap, I still have 100 more lbs to go!" but honestly, being down 50 lbs in 2 months is huge. Do you talk to a therapist or anyone about how you feel? Maybe someone outside of your situation can give you some perspective. I vouch for therapy for everyone.. it has saved my life.
