hi! I am looking to get a lapband and am hunting around for surgeons at the moment! have you been pleased with your one? ive been looking at going to Brussels and thought i'd possibly get a consultation with Dr Mark Focquet. Do you mind me asking what the life expectancy of your band is? I's prefer to have a band that can stay in for good. one of the surgeons I've spoken to from Brussels (Chris de Bruyne) tells me the bands last from 2to 15 yrs. I thought they lasted longer than that. Just wondered what yours was?! Kind regards Julia x -
Congratulations on your amazing weight loss so far! thats just fantastic and thank again for all the info. I have an appt to see a surgeon next week for an initial consultation. i am finding out as much as I can trying to work out if the band is for me. I think it is. I'm 40yrs old and my weight has never been stable. I'm a compulsive overeater with a history of bulimia and my weight yo yos up amd down by anything up to 10stone at a time. i am sick and tired of it and just want to live the rest of my life with stability. I must admit, I am nervous about being banded, its the unknown, but I think I'm ready to do it. I dont want the next 4oyrs to be the same as the last! Anyway, kind regards to you and thanks again Julia x

Elsie, thank you that information is very helpful. you know when you go for a band fill, how does Dr Chris judge the amount to put in? Does he x ray or is it just trial and error? I am worrying about how many bandfills I might need in order to get it right and the expense of it all. how long have you had your band? has it been hard to work with it? Julia x -

Hi Elsie Thanks for replying to me i really appreciate it. Am delighted to hear its all gone so well for you and you're pleased with Dr de Bruyne. Would you mind telling me about what aftercare he offers and if you dont mind saying, how much does it costs etc? I was hoping to get a band that would last indefinitely but I understand from Dr Chris that they only last for up to 15 yrs. What have you got? Will you need to get another at some point in the future? I have so many questions! I dont know where to start! anyway, thanks alot and all the best with your band! Julia x -
Hi fran Thanks for replying. I have so many questions! Do u mind me asking if u had to pay all over again for your new band to be fitted? and also wot was the life expectancy of your 1st band, the one that eroded? it sounded terrible. Julia x

Hi yana I have got an appt with Dr chris next week for my 1st consultation. Do you mind me asking wot the life expectancy of your band is? Will it need to be replaced after a certain time? I have no idea how to go about choosing a surgeon. If you've got the the time I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts on Dr Chris and how you've got on. julia x -

Calling all Dr De Bruyne Patients - Uk - Belgium - Eruope

Hi Ive not been banded yet, I've got my 1st consultation with Dr de Bruyne next week. I spoke to him on the phone today. I was hoping to get some feedback on him too! just out of interest do u know anything about the life of the band and why some places do bands with a lifetime guarantee and yet he says up to 15 yrs? Julia -
the surgeon i spoke to def said the life of the band was up to 15yrs becoz it was all dependent on each individual and how well the silicone endures in their body. I'd never heard that before. I've been reading about bands with a lifetime guarantee so i was disappointed and wonder whether to find another surgeon.
-
the surgeon said everyone is different when it comes to how long silicone can stay in the body without deteriorating. i just hope if I get a band its lasts a long time!

I havnt seen the consultant yet and been given a definite price but the website says 3950 euros . is your surgeon Dr Chris de Bruyne? Ive only just started making enquires about a band so am pretty much in the dark. I'd be rreally grateful if you could give me any advice? Would you recommend the place where you're going? Good luck with it all!
