The top of the port where they inject the saline is made similar to the top of a vial of insulin (or any kind of injectable medication). Once the needle is removed, the hole seals itself.

Greta, I was rather dissappointed after my first fill on 04/06. I felt restriction immediately after the fill but by that night I was famished! I stayed hungry up until my fill yesterday, which was a struggle. I managed to lose 2 lbs (only) between the two fills. Considering how hungry I stayed, I'm just glad I didn't gain weight. I kept waiting for the restriction to "kick in" but it never happened. I'm not saying this to discourage anyone because everyone is different. That was just my experience. This explains why I am SOOO excited about this fill! Leatha, I'm going to take your advise and stick with Proteins, Water and exercise! Thanks to everyone else for your encouragement!

I've had a couple of endoscopies. You might feel tired, but with your husband driving, you should be okay to attend classes that afternoon.

You will be in my prayers. It is easy to say "don't worry", but a much harder thing to accomplish. I had a scare with possible breast cancer a few years ago and it ended up being nothing to worry about. Keep a positive attitude and remember that we are all here to offer support and love. God has your life already in His plans and we need to trust in His care. Everything will work out just fine.

I'm 51 and thanks to Lapband feel like I'm 35. I've been banded just 2 months and have only lost 26 lbs, but it is amazing what a difference it has made in the way I feel both mentally and physically. I have a friend at church that was banded 2 weeks before me and she is 73. She is doing great and has lost 39 lbs! We may be getting older, but we're also getting better!

kids and food.......how do you limit?
Ms. Vicki replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would suggest she grab some Protein, which is what will curb and satisfy the appetite. Carbs of any kind will just keep the hunger going. Have her grab a piece of cheese, spoon of Peanut Butter, handful of nuts, glass of milk, slice of meat or can of tuna. If she wants fruit or cereal, combine it with a protein such as cereal and milk, fruit and cheese, peanut butter and crackers. I think it is okay to encourage healthy eating, but I would not "hound" her too much. It is easy for kids these days to be too weight conscious, which can trigger eating disorders if they get too self conscious about it. I totally agree with your concern about them having the same weight problem as yourself. I have 3 boys who are healthy and not at all overweight, but my only daughter is becoming myself all over. It kills me to see her gain weight like me (we were both thin in HS, but had to fight to keep slender). We both started gaining after we got married. I think a lot of our problem began when we tried to be the "perfect wife" cooking 3 course meals including breads & Desserts. It was especially easy to over indulge after starving ourselves through HS. Then came the babies and the cycle continued.... -
I just got back from having my second fill. My first fill was 1.5cc and I only had .7 this morning. The technician initially put in 1.7 then looked with the flouroscope. Too loose, so she added .5 more, looked again, still too loose, then added .5 more. That was much better, so I had a totally of 2.7 added today. Every now and then I get a slight pain in my chest which I guess is from the fill. Now when I drink something, I have to go slower; I can't just keep swallowing like before. I had only lost 2 lbs since my last fill on April 6. I'm hoping it will start coming off faster now.

The last time I flew, I weighed 320 and I'm 5'6". I had to ask for an extention which was pretty embarrassing, but the attendant was very nice and discreet. I was only an inch or two from being able to fasten it without the extension, so you should have no problem at all.

Ribbed for her Vicki ?????

Welcome Judy, I'm glad you are doing so well with your band. I've found a whole new "family" at this site.

I think it would be fun to see myself 'skinny" before actually getting there. I bet it would be very inspiring and motivating. Anyone know where to go/how to do it? Photonut, I think you've done it. Do you have to have a special program? Thanks for any info. Have a wonderful day my dear bandster family! I love you!

I just called and they told me to come in on May 3 at 9:15. I could have gotten in next week, but will be out of town.

Welcome, NJJoe! Hope you find us a friendly (and crazy) sort of bunch who really support each other. It's a great place to find answers to any question you have, share a joke or lend an ear. You'll feel like family here!

Restriction changes from meal to meal
Ms. Vicki replied to wannabelean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Boy are these threads hitting a "home run" with me. I've only had one fill and keep thinking I need to go for another. Most days I can eat anything I want, just have to chew a bazillion times. However, on Easter Sunday, we went to a BBQ and I add some venison sausage, brisket and a couple of deviled eggs. Finished it off with a bite (really) of the desserts my family ate. Yesterday, I felt queasy all day and didn't want to eat anything, but managed a boiled egg, some yogurt and a few goldfish (crackers). Last night I ate some Pbutter saltine crackers and drank a big glass of peach tea. This morning I still feel like I have something "stuck in my throat", and have no desire to eat anything. Could this be caused by the band? I've not felt "queasy" since I was banded on 2/20/06. I don't know if I'm fighting a virus or if the band is to blame. Any thoughts? Thanks -
My appointment was at 11am so we must have just missed each other. Too bad. The fill went great, just a little "stick" and that was it. I just wish I had gotten more fill. I have not lost any weight since then. I wonder how soon he would do another? I know he is on vacation now, but I'm gonna call and see if I can make an appointment for when he returns. Hope you had a great Easter. The weather was gorgeous!

Karen, I had my first fill on April 6 also. What time was your appointment? Maybe I saw you and didn't know it! I have not felt any restriction this week and have not lost any weight either, but would love more of a fill. I got 1.5 in a 10cc band. How much did you get?

Officially, I live in Conroe. I'm half way between I-45 & Hwy 59 though closer to New Caney. My son used to live in Pearland and I lived in Sagemont during high school so I'm familiar with your area.

If your family is sitting at the table waiting on supper while you are still eating lunch, you might be a bandster.

NJChick's "If your bra size went from a 44 DD to a 38 Long......you could be a bandster." is my favorite yet! I think I like it because it is SOOOO true! How about this one..... "If you have to lift up your belly instead of your skirt, you might be a bandster." :pound::pound::pound::pound::pound:

If you "freak out" because you swallowed your gum, you might be a bandster If you can go online and PROUDLY display your before and after pictures, you might be a bandster If you can spill you guts (literally and figuratively) to people you've only talked to online, you might be a bandster. If you confess things you've never told even your husband, you might be a bandster If you used to make your kids get/do things for you instead of doing them yourself, you might be a bandster If "second helping" means having only one deviled egg and splurging to have another, then you might be a bandster

Congratulations! Welcome to the Bandster family! We're here for you! Hope you are feeling better soon.

I have the ability (and sometimes the temper) to cuss like a sailor, but my youngest child (13) will ALWAYS correct me. My word of preference now is Dookey doo-doo.

If you and your 6 month old granddaughter SHARE a meal, you might be a Bandster.

If you tell your friend that you have to go get a "fill" and you are NOT going to the Shell station, you might be a Bandster.
