Last Supper Mentality??
Ms. Vicki replied to Hazelbunny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through this Last Meal Syndrome too. For me it began about 30 years ago and every day I ate like it was my last meal. The night before surgery, I went to FuddRuckers and had a HUGE burger with fries AND onion rings. -

Gagging on breathing tube post-op?
Ms. Vicki replied to hopeful07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had several surgeries and have woken up with a tube in my throat twice. That is twice too many times. It is a horrible feeling and such a relief when the tube is removed. It is one of the only things I fear when going "under". Sorry you experienced it. -
I enjoy my tuna with a little vinegar and pepper or hot sauce

I've been told to check my sugar level before going to bed. if it is below 140, I'm supposed to have 1 protein and 1 carb. That should hold you til morning.
-
I was on both insulin and oral meds for diabetes. I have not had to take one shot of insulin since the surgery and I've been able to cut the meds dosage in half. That was from the very day of surgery, but I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor about adjusting your dosage.

One Year Later...Not A Success Story
Ms. Vicki replied to NeenBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Boy, can I relate to you guys..... I am closely approaching my One Year Bandiversary on 02/28. At one time I had lost 35 lbs and was doing great. Then I suffered a torn meniscus in my left knee. It "gave way" on me more and more frequently so I decided to have surgery to repair. That was back in October and my knee feels worse than before the surgery. On top of that, my right knee is bothering me because of the extra stress of doing "double duty" while my left knee healed. Now I can hardly walk at all and when I do, it is very painful. I am back to my original starting weight and fear it will only go higher. Although lack of exercise is the excuse I give the public, the other hidden excuse is that I have become very depressed and am making all the wrong food choices. I am at the point of deep despair and am so tempted to just give up. I am sorry for sabotaging your thread. Thanks for listening anyway. -
I agree with Lisa....just make sure the ER knows about the LapBand, which requires special "handling". I definitiely would not wait till the 12th to see the doctor!

SuperDaddy: Back to the Starting Line(?)
Ms. Vicki replied to SuperDaddy!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dear SuperDaddy, Your story is so familiar to mine, with the exception of having different "stories" that I have used for excuses. I was banded 11 months ago and initially losing 35 lbs, am now back to within 11 lbs from where I began. I have been reading a book "Food and Love" from a Christian author, Gary Smalley that has been giving me a lot of "food" for thought. Please excuse the pun. He states that once you get so far down on yourself, you eventually will cry out to God and admit it is all beyond your control. I have realized I can not do it alone...I am too weak and my addiction to food is too strong. Only God in His supernatural power can create in me the strength to conquer my "demons". I have been "strong" for 5 days now, and trust that He will continue working in me. I will keep you in my prayers. Oh, congratulations on your new little treasure. -

Hillary Clinton, First Woman President of the US. Would you vote for her?
Ms. Vicki replied to godloveshope2's topic in Rants & Raves
I would definitely vote for a woman if she were the best qualified for the position. I would definitely NOT ever vote for Hillary. -
I have been taking 1000mg of glucophage 2x daily for about 8 years and unfortunately can not say it has caused me to ever lose weight.

All of the discussion here reminds me of an incident I witnessed several years ago. I was driving through the parking lot of a shopping mall and saw a young woman put a small 3yr old little girl into the back seat of a car as she was screaming at her. She then got into the back seat with her and I watched her beat her with the heel part of a high heeled shoe. (Someone else was driving evidently). I tried to get the license plate number so I could report it, but they drove away too fast. The image haunts me til this day!

All of these stories are as if someone plucked them from my heart. I can relate to each one of them. I am also a food addict and am able to binge even through the band. I just have to change my food choices and the quantities will go right on through. Unfortunately, the things that will go right through are all the things that are so bad for me.....chips, Cookies, candy. Admittedly, I don't binge near as often as I used to and even though I have not lost much weight with the band, it has not come back. At this rate I can reach my goal when I am 211 yrs old. Yeah!!!! I know I need some serious therapy, but just knowing that I am not alone with this battle is such a great help. Thanks to all for being here and giving me a place to confide without retribution or further shame. That in itself keeps me on track rather than sending into a deeper abyss. I love you all. Have a blessed day.

I'm with you Missy and Kathy.......... I happen to be a Bush supporter. It has been very difficult to stay quiet when it is obvious not the majority on this site. However, I respect everyone's opinon whether I agree or not. That's what's so great about our country....and this forum. I have a son in the military and had had several "adopted" sons go over seas. I was scared silly the entire time they were there. I do believe it was there right thing to do, I just wish it were over and we could bring them all home.

Why does my nose run when I am full?
Ms. Vicki replied to Irish Girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As long as I can remember, I've always gotten a stopped-up nose when I get full. Since it is almost Halloween, I can even get gross and say I'll lose 2 lbs after blowing my nose. My family has always made fun of my peculiarity. Needless to say, I've always bought stock in Kleenex, but not so much since I've been banded. -
I am resurrecting this thread because of something I read in the paper today. I have not tried it, but thought it wad interesting and wanted to share it: I lost a great deal of hair due to stress and illness. My cousin recommended nettle tea. I was unable to find the tea, but I found capsules. The regrowth has been nothing short of amazing! Even my hairdresser is shocked. When I buy the capsules, clerks assume I'm taking it for allergies. Few people seem to know of the hair benefits. Have you heard of this? A. We, too, had heard of using stinging nettle for allergies and also for an enlarged prostate. In checking, we found that it has been applied directly to the scalp to treat hair loss. We could not find any studies supporting this use. Let me know if anyone has heard of this. Have a wonderful day!

Working stiffs, how long...
Ms. Vicki replied to winner's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have an office job, but stayed out of work for 2 weeks due to the gas pains in my neck. The surgery itself was not bad. -

The Miracle Toddler Diet People are always on the lookout for a new diet. The trouble with most diets is that you don't get enough to eat (the starvation diet), you don't get enough variation (the liquid diet) or you go broke (the all-meat diet.) Consequently, people tend to cheat off their diets, or quit after three days. Now there's the new Toddler Miracle Diet. Over the years you may have noticed that most two year olds are trim. Now the formula to their success is available to all in this new diet. You may want to consult your doctor before embarking on this diet, otherwise, you may be seeing him afterwards. Good Luck! DAY ONE Breakfast - One scrambled egg, one piece of toast with grape jelly. Eat 2 bites of egg, using your fingers; dump the rest on the floor. Take 1 bite of toast, then smear the jelly over your face and clothes. Get some in your eyebrows too. It'll give you something to pick at for several hours of satisfying appetite control. Lunch - Four crayons (any color), a handful of potato chips, and a glass of milk (3 sips only, then spill the rest down your leg). Dinner - A dry stick, two pennies and a nickel, 4 sips of stale beer. Bedtime Snack - Toast piece of bread and toss it on the kitchen floor. Be sure to step on it and hear it go crunch! DAY TWO Breakfast - Pick up stale crunched toast from kitchen floor and eat it. Drink half bottle of vanilla extract or one vial of vegetable dye. Um. Yummy! Lunch - Half tube of "Pulsating Pink" lipstick and a handful of Purina Dog Chow (any flavor). One ice cube, if desired. Afternoon Snack - Lick an all-day sucker until sticky, take outside, drop in dirt. Retrieve and continue slurping until it is clean again. Then bring inside and drop on the rug. Wander away without thought. Dinner - A rock or an uncooked bean, which should be thrust up your left nostril. Pour iced tea over mashed potatoes; eat with a large strainer spoon, since taking your time is vital to your dieting success. DAY THREE Breakfast - Two pancakes with plenty of syrup, eat with fingers, rub in hair. Don't pull it out later though. It hurts. Glass of milk: drink half, stuff remainder of picked over pancakes into glass. After breakfast, pick up yesterday's sucker from rug, lick off fuzz, and put it on the cushion of your best chair. Wander away without direction. Lunch - Three matches, peanutbutter and jelly sandwich. Spit several bites onto the floor. Pour glass of milk on table and slurp up. Smear a design on table with remaining milk. It's good for your artistic expression. Dinner - Dish of ice cream, handful of potato chips, some wine, and coffee. FINAL DAY Breakfast - A quarter-tube of toothpaste (any flavor), bit of soap, an olive. Pour a glass of milk over bowl of cornflakes, add a half-cup of sugar. Once cereal is soggy, drink milk and feed cereal to dog. Be sure to rub some in dog's fur just for fun. Lunch - Eat crumbs off kitchen floor and dining room carpet. Find that sucker and finish eating it. Dinner - A glass of spaghetti and chocolate milk. Discard meatball on plate. Stick of mascara for dessert. Enjoy!

I wasn't sure which Forum to use for this..... I had a HORRIBLE experience yesterday. I went to lunch with my hubby. (No that wasn't the horrible experience). I ordered a taco salad. The first two bites were heavenly. I put a small amount of cheese and ground beef on the fork, chewed until it was almost liquid and swallowed. No problem. I talked for a few minutes and took a 3rd bite and suddenly felt a DREADED PB coming on. Went to the LGR and got rid of it. Came back to the table feeling fine. Took another bite, and the same thing happened. Went BACK to the LGR, took care of "things" and this time, decided to pack up the salad and have it for dinner. After a few minutes, I took a very small sip of tea and got the SLIMEYS all over again. ANOTHER trip to the LGR. By this time, everyone is staring at me wondering why I have to "GO" so much. Anyway, I had the SLIMEYS until I went to bed. For most, this would not be a problem other than being uncormfortable. However, being diabetic, my sugar was dropping and I couldn't hold ANYTHING down. Not even warm tea with sugar. Well, I couldn't take my night time meds, but did manage to hold a Peanut-butter cup (oh the horrors, tee-hee) in my mouth abnd let it melt. I must have retained enough sugar in my system to get me through the night. Well this morning, everything was fine. I have been very careful with what I've eaten today and have not had any problems. I thought maybe the Naproxen I had been taking for the past 2 weeks (knee pain) had somehow irritated my band opening and that was the source of the problem. I called Dr. Spivak's office to ask them about it. Patricia said the Naproxen was okay as long as I waited 15 minutes between each pill. WHAT? I take a handful of (small) pills twice a day and have ever since the surgery and have never heard of this before. She apologized and said, "Oh Honey, someone should have told you. Never take more than one pill at a time and wait at least 15 minutes before taking another one." I must have had all those pills I took at Breakfast melt into a big glob at the Band opening and it clogged the works until it finally dissolved enough to go through. Makes sense, just never thought about it before. I told my DH and his comment was, "You're not gonna get much sleep, are you?" My family is always teasing me aboiut the quantity of pills I have to take. Anyway, Patricia called me back after a few minutes and told me that the other nurses in the office suggested not only waiting the 15 minutes between pills, but to take Naproxen (or other meds known to irritate the stomach) with Maalox or yogurt. Wanted to pass this info on to keep others from going through what I went through yesterday. Anyway, have a great and blessed weekend. Love to all.

Very well stated, Carlene. I totally agree.
