I haven't been here for a while because I was not a candidate for lapband because of my nissan surgery and other abdominal surgeries. I was a candidate for other forms of bariatric surgery but I did not want to go that route. Anyhow my doctor sent me to a nutritionist on August 13th and she put me on a protein sparing modified fast. So today, after 7 weeks I am down 30lbs. It is very stringent however, I will give it my best shot and hope it will pay off. She said last Monday that I should be at goal in about 12 more weeks. So unless I once in a while lurk I probably won't be posting much. GOOD luck to all that were lucky enough to get the band!

I know my nutritionist said that it will take at least 12 weeks to start introducing slowly the right carb related foods. Yes it will be a struggle but I have to give it a fair shot.

Yes, the sleeve was an option but I really wanted the lapband. The PSMF is made up of Protein, certain green vegetables, excersise, journaling, and tons of liquids. I take prescription potassium with supliments of a multi Vitamin, Calcium, and magnesium. I go for blood work every 2 weeks so far and caloric intake is about 500 cal. More than likely, when I reach goal I will be low carbing, portion control and excersise to maintain my weight loss. My nutritionist said once I get at goal they will have to slowly reintroduce me to allowed foods. This is not a liquid fast ............and really anyone interested should see a doctor that is why I feel uncomfortable to give the specifics of what I am eating. This is the hardest thing I have ever done, however seeing the results on the scale really help me get through another day!
  7. I have a surgeon's appointment the day after tommorrow and I have been researching WLS for a number of years....but have decided to go with the band if possible....other than the usual questions to ask about the surgeons experience (going to the Cleveland Clinic), things to expect, testing before surgery etc, is there one question that YOU as a BANDER didn't ask that you wished you would have asked before your decision to get banded???

    new to Lap Band idea

I have been lurking here for a couple of months for information on the "band". Anyhow, after 2 mos of waiting I go to a surgeon the day after tommorrow (Aug 7th) to find out if I can qualify. I am a diabetic, have fatty liver issues (I see a liver doctor next month), and my BMI is 36 so I feel that I may have a good chance. In fact, my primary care doctor was very supportive in my quest.....now I will see what happens on Thursday and keeping my fingers crossed that my insurance will cover it! I have BCBS /Anthem of Ohio.
  9. About 10 years ago I had a nissan fundoplacation surgery for reflux.....will that make getting a lap band impossible?
  10. Has anyone had fatty liver disease before the lap band and how did the band affect it after?

    Port question

Thanks! For some reason I thought it was outside the body!
  12. Right now I am doing some research on the Lap band. I am diabetic and have an appointment in August at the Cleveland Clinic to explore a few options. Anyhow ..........is the port for the fill outside or under the skin and how does it affect a person, bathing, swimming, etc. ?
