I have to go back to my surgeon’s office monthly for follow ups with the dietician and to assess progress. The dietician always seems very disinterested so I just come to the appointment with the questions I want to ask and go from there. My surgeon has multiple offices and since surgery I’ve been going to one of the satellite locations cause it’s easier and closer to my house. But the dieticians I saw pre-surgery at the main location were so much better. I don’t care much cause the insurance covers it and so far I’m doing good but if I had a need for dietician support I would probably go with a better dietician and one I felt comfortable with. There are some great ones that are on Instagram that offer support for free, have FB groups and also take private clients. Some of them are even bariatric patients themselves! Look up thesleeveddietician and dieticiankatie on IG, they’re both pretty awesome and always willing to help.

Yay! I lost 15 pounds the first 2 weeks but I’m definitely in the week 3-4 stall, lol. Haven’t lost a thing since last week and I’m almost 4 weeks post op. Fingers crossed it breaks soon!

My first consult was January 27. Insurance required 3 visits (90 days). Finished those last week of April. Insurance approved a week later. Surgery is scheduled for June 11. So overall about 4.5 months for me.

6 Month Diet Required by Insurance
WilD4 replied to SlimmingItDown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance (Cigna) required I had to do 3 supervised visits with the dietician, each a month apart, so basically 3 months. The insurance didn’t give us any more details than that which was frustrating but the Dr. and dietician just went with what they normally did and said the insurance might want to see some weight loss even if minimal. I didn’t do a diet or anything, just food journaling, ride my bike and consultations. The dietician told me that I shouldn’t gain weight but since my BMI was close to dropping below 40 that I shouldn’t lose too much weight either. So I kept my weight loss to about 1 pound a month. Worked out fine, insurance approved my request right away. -
