A thread for Single Bandsters
Manatee replied to NewBeginnings2018's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My misunderstanding then, soonersis. Thanks for the clarification. Where I grew up, one was living large if the house didn't have axles and a hitch! -
A thread for Single Bandsters

Hmmm. I don't see where "I don't like crazy cat ladies" and "I don't like golddiggers" is equivalent to "no independent women." Can you enlighten me? I can see that the world has changed in the last 13 years. -->me, off to read this WHOLE thread and see where the minefields are -
A thread for Single Bandsters

I suppose I'm officially a single bandster now. 18 months after I filed for divorce, the ex finally finished moving all her stuff out this past weekend. Hurrah! The nice thing about a slo-mo divorce is that there's no real emotional stuff to get over at the end of it. I will miss my dogs though Now I just need to figure out where the 30something year olds are that aren't crazy cat ladies and don't want sugardaddies for their ex's kids. Ha! -
Did your insurance cover your lap-band?
Manatee replied to mommy2kyler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Y'all are going to hate me My insurance covered it (United Health Care). I thought there was an exclusion, but I asked HR and they said that the insurance covered bariatric surgery through the end of 2007 and it was going to be dropped in 2008. I routinely go to the doc every 6 months or so for a checkup, and so I already had the 5 years of weight history and the co-morbidities documented. (For those who are curious -- sleep apnea, high cholesterol numbers and something called "metabolic syndrome".) Gave my insurance info to the specialist, they cranked it through, and I quite literally had the surgery about a month after asking HR about coverage. Sometimes, things just go right -
Well, it's obvious I'm not going to get the 40 miles, but so be it. First fill this coming Tuesday Weight it still pretty stable, but I had what the ladies call a "non-scale victory." In March I had just moved up to a 48 waist. Today, I fit in some of my old 42 inch jeans. Hurrah!

As a followup to my airport scanner issue earlier this week, I passed through Indy International today with no problem. Perhaps DFW is more sensitive? I'm scheduled for my first fill on the 26th, looking forward to it.

As a followup to the airport security comment earlier, this morning I passed through Indy International (hah!) airport. No issues with the port setting it off this time. Maybe the DFW scanner was more sensitive? I added lots of miles this weekend to my exercise total. I was at the USGP and it was a LONG walk from the parking lot to our seats

Just something interesting. I flew yesterday, and the port set off the metal detector. I had to have a personal visit from the special screener, and that hand wand was beeping every time it crossed the port scar. So, either the ports DO set off the scanners, despite what the doc said, or they left a screwdriver in me

So, first week in June is done (1st-8th). I haven't been getting in the time on the elliptical like I wanted, but doing OK on the weight loss front. 1st -- 255 8th -- 249 15th -- TBD 22nd -- TBD 29th -- TBD
-
Oops. I noticed I'm still on the June calendar. I jumped ahead to May 21. It's all good guys, LOTS less stressful than I thought it would be. Y'all will be fine.

Hiya. Newbie here, banded 5/21. Glad to see a guy's thread here. I won't have a fill by June and don't have much restriction now, but I'm up for a June challenge. I always focus better when it's a competition

6 days postop for me. No pain unless I move wrong, and I'm down a few pounds and had to cut a new hole in the belt. I moved to soft veggies today with black eyed peas and mashed potatoes. All well there, no problems. I was shopping with my brother at the mall and forgot I had the band. Dropped by the soft pretzel place and was munching on it when I remembered Painful pressure, but it eventually worked itself out. I don't really have much in the way of restriction, so I'm moving along pretty well in the post-op calendar. Fortunately I never really feel hungry (even in the 10 day liquid diet) so that's no issue. In fact, that's really the root of my weight problem -- I never feel hungry, nor do I ever feel full, so I would just eat at the "normal times" until I was physically distended (ugh!). The pressure thing is great, it gives me a guideline. I need to schedule a fill ASAP after doc checks me in a week or so. Has anyone noticed a change in the way food tastes? Maybe it's just a side effect of the liquid diet?

Any ideas on how long it takes for the post-op stomach swelling to go away?
-
3 days post-op, and I'm feeling pretty good. Still on "full liquids" which in the case of my doc means juices and protein drinks.
-
Oh -- and I moved my date up to yesterday due to buyout rumors at work and worries that it would affect my insurance. The buyout was announced today -- I just barely dodged that bullet
-
Through the mirror, and out the other side. Got banded yesterday, home today. I would have slept much better here than at the hospital, but I NEEDED the pain meds. Right now I'm feeling ok, a bit like I was kicked by a mule but I'm walking around and sucking down the liquids. No shoulder pains, but I do have some bloating and gas. Doc put a band on that can take a 10 cc fill. No restriction for now, followup in 2 weeks
-
6 hours to go until surgery. I can't sleep at all! Thank goodness I have a fairly early time, because I'm half excited and half scared to death.
-
I know, it's just head hunger and a bit of a "what the heck am I DOING???" attack. I don't really need a burger and won't go get one. Thanks for the response

Hi Bandsters I'm on day 7 of my pre-op liquid diet, due for banding on Monday. I am absolutely CRAVING a hamburger and fries -- especially since the coordinator told me I won't be able to eat a burger ever again. I've been good thus far, and if I'm good the remaining 2 days, how bad would a burger be?

Hi, newbie here. I originally posted in the June thread because my date was June 30. However, there's rumors of a buy-out at work, and the HR benefit person told me in no uncertain terms that I need to get this done ASAP or face losing it altogether. So, talked to the doc's office today, and my date is now May 21. He requires a 10 day liquid diet, so that starts...uh...NOW! Whoa. I'm more than a little nervous right now, as I thought I'd have more time to get ready for this event. Instead, this is more like skydiving -- only 1 way out! Geronimo.....

Hi there. I've been lurking for a while, reading on all the pros and cons of the lap-band process. Just got word that my insurance has approved the procedure, so I'm scheduled for June 29. I could go as early as May 18, but I have some travel scheduled in early June that would be problematic if I was recovering. Besides, the ex-wife will still be moving out on the 18th, and she doesn't know about this step I don't know how to do the signature thing, but I'm currently 5 foot 9 inches, 271 and 40.1 BMI, headed to a 160 goal. Is a year a realistic timeframe for the goal, if I'm serious about the effort? Any input welcome -- thanks!

Just got the word today, everything is approved and I'm scheduled for June 29. It's a bit later than I wanted, but I have some travel and such to deal with first. I'm excited, worried, etc. Seems a long way out. Pre op is 10 days of liquid diet before the surgery. I also have to go see a dietician

Has anyone here used Dr. Mosier for their procedure? I'm looking at an early May timeframe, and was hoping to get some patients' perspectives on him. So far I'm happy with him and the office. Thanks
