  1. One of the reasons I’ve hesitated to start the process of getting the surgery is that quite a few people I’ve seen get it seem to regain weight back. Like half of it. Why do we think that is? I know I can be committed to a complete lifestyle change but of course I’m human. Do some of the effects that help with weight loss in the beginning actually stop working? Can your metabolism slow down? Does your stomach start to stretch out again? I’m 43 so menopause is looming....lol Help me feel that this will be a good decision. I know that it is seen as a tool and that you still must work hard. But does that get to the point of things being as hard as they were before surgery? Because if so what is the point? Please be kind.... I’m just scared.
  2. Did anyone have any irregularities on their endoscopy before surgery? They found “inflammation” in my stomach and an “irregular Z-line” in my esophagus. I am freaking out a little.

    Depression meds and WLS

I’m looking for experiences of people who have needed to be on depression meds and have still been able to maintain weight loss. I feel best when I am on SSRI meds but the weight gain was always a side effect. I would like to believe that maybe after my surgery this will be a more manageable situation. Was anyone on meds before surgery and still had success? I imagine it would be slower weight loss? Thx for any input.
  5. You look great! Very handsome!

    Why/how do people regain?

    Thank you for these posts!
  7. This is a great informative post. I thought I wanted the band actually until I came here. I went into this very open minded and as of now am leaning toward the sleeve for many reasons that have already been mentioned. My surgeon likes the sleeve for me also becAuse if my lower BMI (37ish). I’m still pretty open minded though so I will be reading here! I’m at the VERY beginning of all this.

    Surgery soon

You got this! It’s totally normal to be scared before surgery! ❤️💪🏼
  9. Absolutely amazing! Can I ask what kind of plastic surgery you’ve had? Also was it covered by your insurance? You are like a poster child for this surgery:)

    Anyone have AmeriHealth?

Just wondering how hard this is going to be with a BMI if just under 40. I’m at the very beginning of this process. I don’t have diabetes but I see a cardiologist for some issues, have had joint issues and planters fasciitis. Not sure if that would help with it being deemed medically necessary.
  11. Hello everyone! I am new around here but you all seem helpful. I have been thinking about WLS for years and my weight has ranged quite a bit. My BMI (36) puts me in the "very obese" category. I always thought I wasn't heavy enough (yet) to have the surgery and have tried and tried on my own. Two years ago my cardiologist told me that he would refer me to a bariatric doctor if I couldn't get this weight off but I really wanted to try to to it without surgery. Well I have struggled with the same 20 pounds. (I have a family history of cardiac problems, diabetes, etc). I am tired. I am depressed. I have no stamina. My joints hurt. I have foot issues and pain that make exercise painful. I am active though. Where did you start with this? Your general doc? I know there is a long process. How did you know which surgery was right for you? Thank you for any help you can give me!
  12. Thank you for these replies and the information! I am in South Jersey so I’ll check Dr. Balsama out. My insurance does cover it. I’ve actually been on the websites and just from that it looks like I’m a candidate. I’m going to call them and start calling doctors. Luckily I live outside of Philadelphia and there are great options here. I do not need a referral from my p doc. Thank you thank you thank you for your help!
